Asking for opinions (because this will never happen again) :)
Alright friends, I have the opportunity to spend more money than expected on snakes. I may wait until the Narbc next month, but o wanted to narrow down what I'm looking for. I have about $1200 to work with, which is a lot of money for me. I am good on makes, so I will be looking for females, but I have a few different ways I could go. I could get several co com females. More mouths to feed but more eggs laid when the time comes. I could get a nice multi gene female and only have one more mouth to feed. Something nice like a firefly, vanilla cream, BEL, super pastel lesser etc. Or, I could buy a female or two that are ready to breed. My het pied girl would be the only one possibly ready for next year, but not unless she gets to eating. So...if you were me, keeping in mind both a business decision and beauty, what would you do with the money? Thanks in advance!

Oh sorry, it's in my signature. I have a pastel, albino, and pied male. All are breeding size.

Oh, and sorry for the typos in my original post. Auto correct on my phone hates me :)

I say get ya 1-2 big girls ready to go with 1200 I would get a mojave,or a pastel and spider or pastel and yellow belly or pastel and something else the reason I say pastel is cause your males all male good combos with pastels even though they will be hets with the albino and pied but that's just the recessive part of my brain popin out if I had 1200 and looking to buy a outstanding set I would buy a double gene male say a fire fly or kingpin and something that will go great with them like a bee or lemon blast, pewter, pastel yellow belly etc... But this is just my .02

Ready to go (or close to it) female pied. Breed her to the Pied and Albino. If you get all Pieds, the dad is Pied, if you get normals, the Albino is dad....or you can get a mix of both which would be my ultimate goal for a female breeding both males.

    Your collection:
    1.0 Pastel bp
    1.0 Albino
    1.0 Piebald
    0.1 Het pied
    0.1 Pewter

This is tough haha. I can't say what to add that would work with all your snakes :P... Firefly female would be perfect no matter what haha

Just throwing it out there but maybe some sort of Super het. Albino/Pied may be a nice addition? Because then you're at least guaranteed to get some combos or at least some base morphs where as breeding Co-Doms to Co-Doms can kind of be up in the air? You can get some combos, some bases, or some normals, you just don't know. With Supers, I see efficiency and a guarantee.

You couldn't go wrong with a female morph het albino or pied (black pastel albinos are WICKED! And I'm a fan of pumpkin pieds)

All very good suggestions. I hadn't thought of putting a pied girl to my pied and albino. I also want a mojo girl at some point, but I'm so picky and haven't found one I liked. May have to wait for this years babies to hatch. With all the cool stuff with yellowbelly, I may look for an ivory girl too. I can't wait until Feb for the show. I have no patience.

I definitely second getting a ready to breed pied or a ready to breed albino and throw her with both the albino and pied males. I'd love some babies from those breedings.....

I'm looking to albino and pied stuff in the near future.

    Hoe's before browe's!!

Your too limited on males to do much with the females you have. For $1200 you could get a nice sized breeder pastel for $500 and maybe a subadult Mojave/Lesser/Butter girl with the difference.

This gives you a year to decide on what morph males you want.... with your nice single gene girls gaining weight, prices should be dropping on some nice double gene males for you to consider.

I would invest in a female Leopard and if you look hard enought you should be able to get her and a female mojo. Not too many people have leopards and there are loads of morphs they havent been combined with!!

I've seen het pieds and het albino fems breeder size for 500 or less on kingsnake. get yourself one of each and you should still have enough for a yellowbelly girl.

I actually love leopards, I may keep my eyes out on them for now. I have limited space at the moment, so I want to get the hang of breeding before I get more males. But if I find a gorgeous male, I wouldn't mind having another. They are my pets first of all, but I still want to produce some cool babies.

Either Albino or Pied would work, but when looking at it more from a business aspect, the Pied would be much more profitable in this scenario.

    OR....

A 0.1 Clown..... Lesser 100% Het Clown is nice ;)

    OR....

A 1.0 Clown for about any female you have..... I see Spider 100% Het Clowns in your future.

Clowns are the Pieds and Albinos of 5 years ago. Compare morph to morph- most 100% Het Clown morphs bring as much as a visual Pied. I love both, but will be steadily ramping up on my Clown efforts this year.

Hmm, what about champagnes? I'm seeing males and females for reasonable prices. But by the time I had any to breeding weight, would they be a lower end morph by then? I guess in the end I need to buy what I love and not worry about profit. After all, it's my animal whether it gives me profit or not. But I want it to be a decent business decision since I plan breeding. Is the super champagne lethal?

1.1 dh pied/albino would be a good choice i think. but you could pick up a pinstripe albino female with that amount of money. then you could potentialy work your pied into that. or scrap the whole bp thing and grab you a pair of snow boas lol. sorry my love has been shifting lately

No boas for me lol. They are gorgeous, just no room.

Elbee: You're going to be at the Houston Repticon?? Have you looked at the vendor list? This is my first time going to one, but I'm kind of disappointed at how small the list is currently.

I would avoid champagne personally, just because of the way the prices have been plummeting. I wouldn't want shell out for something like that only to see it 25 or 30% lower in 6 months. Since you said in the original post that spending at this level is going to be a one time deal for you, I think you should get the best single animal you can for that amount (rather than 2 or 3 cheaper ones), whatever morph that may be. I would also vote for something less common, like the leopard, market forces apply to snakes too and the more common morphs become, the cheaper they get. By going into something less mainstream you stand a better chance of seeing less devaluation of that particular morph. Of course there's nothing wrong with buying what you love regardless of the morph!

Very good point. I really love the vanilla creams. But I've always loved blue eyed lucies. I know those aren't really cutting edge anymore but still so beautiful.

True, but there's a lot to be said for doing what makes you happy, for me that's axanthics so that's what I do, and will continue to do regardless of the market for them. So if BELs do it for you, then go for it!
