So Disney Bought Star Wars and Highlander Is Getting Remade

I just found this out because I got so tired of seeing Sandy news that I just cut off the news for 3 days.

I can say I am shocked. But then again, it's hard to turn down $4 Billion. I guess Lucas thought he was getting too old and it was time to pass the torch. Now I hear they are going to make antoher trilogy with new actors playing the old characters.

Honestly I think SW is just going to go downhill. Not that is wasn't already with the prequels mostly being bad.

Then again, the Star Trek reboot blew my mind with how good it was. So I guess I will just wait and see.

Highlander:

So Hollywood is going to butcher more of my childhood. Highlander, although kinda cheesy looking at it now, is still one of my favorite movies ever and a classic. And now it is getting remade with Ryan Reynolds as Connor MacCloud.

I don't care for Ryan Reynolds. He basically plays the same character in every movies. Deadpool, Green Lantern, same guy with different outfit. So not too thrilled that he is going to try and be Christopher Lambert. Now don't get me wrong. There are some great actors that play the same person every time like Chris Walken. But I like Chris Walken. He's hilarious. Ryan Reynolds, well, IMO, isn't. At least not in the way that is needed for this character or the others he has recently been.

Just let the Highlander franchise die. I mean, every single movie after the first was bad, badder, extra crispy bad, and then shoot me/end the pain bad. The TV show was good though. Any ways, please, just create something new and original instead of rehashing old stuff.

Chris, I agree with you. Ryan Reynolds as MacCloud? No way. If I was going to remake Highlander I would look more towards a Matt Damon type actor. I think a remake of Highlander with Ryan Reynolds would make a move as bad as Green Lantern. It would be a shame to ruin such a classic. As for Star Wars, I kind of fell off the bandwagon during the Ewok episode. Watched them all, but the Ewoks just took all of the air out of the thing for me.

I have high hopes with Lucas' hand out of the cookie jar. If they can hire on a great team of writers and a solid director, it could be very awesome.

Not sure how I feel about the Highlander news...

I just found out about Disney buy the star wars franchise today too. I honestly hated the newer movies, and I don't have much hope of Disney doing any good creating more.

As for highlander I think I just died a little. I'm also in the boat of not particularly caring for Ryan Reynolds and casting him as MacCloud is a horrible decision. I hate crappy remakes. :(

Maybe Disney will release the original, Han shoots first, Trilogy on Blu-ray......

Highlander... ugh that one doesn't sound like it has a lot of chance to be very good HOWEVER, being the pervert that I am, I can overlook Ryan Reynold's playing the same character or whether he's a great actor or not simply bc imo he is just that hot. If there is the slightest chance he may get shirtless in this movie I WILL see it lol.

As a side note, I would like to thank Kodieh for making me a bit OCD about ellipse's. I now feel weird if there's more or less than 3 periods lol.

I am not happy about the Star Wars thing. There is no way they can capture the magic of the original characters without the orginal actors and I just think they are too old now to do any good in them, IMHO. However, I would like to see an Episode 3.5 with more Vader and Fett stuff in it and maybe a Maul comeback like they've done in the [i]Clone Wars[/] cartoons.

As old as he is, put Russell Crow in for it. Do you see the Robin Hood remake with him? Just astounding! If they are dead set in it, he's the man for the job.

I am not a Ryan Reynolds hater, but if he is to be cast in a remake of a film from my childhood, I only see him as Westley in a new Princess Bride. Ugh, he is no highlander! I hope Disney can bring some of the magic back to SW that has been lost in the last few movies, but I'm not holding my breath.

To me Star Wars was dead before the second batch was ever released. Don't get me wrong, I loved the original trilogy. But if you want to keep my attention, then you need to do it less than a decade.
I dislike most remakes immensely. I feel, been done is done. But Hollywood is out of new ideas. So if they are going to remake Highlander, I think Gerard Butler would make a good Conner. He's from the right side of the pond, and he does both comedy and drama equally well.

Maybe with LucasArts out of the picture now we'll see a decent Star Wars video game.

Should've clarified: I meant an MMO, SWG was awesome until LucasArts demanded some pretty drastic changes and SWTOR just sucked out of the box.

The last name of the main character in Highlander, whether you prefer the movie (Connor) or the TV series (Duncan), is MacLeod. It's not something that rains on you. :)

That said, I agree that Ryan Reynolds will make an awful MacLeod, and that some (most, with Ocean's 11 being a rare exception?) things are better left un-remade.

Highlander aside, I guess Disney can't ruin Star Wars any more than Lucas already has, but I've got no interest in giving them any of my box-office dollars for it. That Disney font/Death Star mashup graphic is pretty awesome, though.

I don't know, these are the same guys that brought us The Avengers. If Disney can make a movie of that caliber then I'm cautiously optimistic about how Episode 7, 8 & 9 will turn out.

Thanks, I thought something looked funny about the spelling of the name.

I read the Star Wars books when I was young I wonder if the next three movies will follow the path the books did for what happened after six? If they do they might be worth watching I liked the originals growing up still do they remind me of being a kid but the last three kinda loses me a bit. So who knows I guess ill watch them and see.
