Same here. Thought it was going to be cool enough but it hasn't stayed that way long enough. Weird year for weather...high 70's in October in the Midwest...go figure!

That sucks! And never fails, everyone else requests off the same time I'd like to be gone, lol! Nice that so many people like to hunt/fish but it sure doesn't help me fill my tags.

I just picked up the hunt/fish regulation booklets this past weekend at the Cracker festival. I may actually get out to hunt this year but I'm not sure yet.

I went out with my Dad for the opener of gun/deer season here in Georgia. I am happy to be able to still do that with him as he is 74 and has already suffered two heart attacks and had triple bypass sugery. The second attack was when we were on a trip deer hunting while staying in a remote cabin in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It took over two hours to get an ambulance out to us and took him to the closest hospital which was over 40 miles away, in an ice storm I might add. By the time he was in the ER, he started crashing and they had to utilize thrombolysis to get him through it. Really thought I was going to lose him right then.

Anyways, Saturday we were hunting and I took a 4 point that dressed out at about 110 lbs. I am glad it wan't really any bigger as I had about a 500 yard drag to get it out of the woods and I am pushing 50 myself. Being from MI, alot of the terrain is more flat than here. So this drag through the hills of Georgia, kicked my butt pretty well. Totally worth it though as there is nothing better then fresh venison tenderloin sauteed in butter with a little garlic pepper and onion salt.

Went out a couple times but didn't see much. It is still too warm around my way for them to start moving. I will be out hitting it hard in a week or two, once the temp drops a bit.

Nice pics. Out west thats a two point. In the east thats a four point. Is your daughter Annie Oakley? Hitting grouse are hard enough, as fast as they can get up and out. But doing it when your 6, with a .410 when there is so little shot amount to begin with, is simply awsome. Best of luck and hope you get a nice bull.

I've been out a few times this year chasing whitetail with my bow (first time ever). Haven't dropped the string yet, but I've had a few small does within range. I've got Oct 28-Nov.5 to do some hunting (last 3 days are w/ firearm) so hopefully I'll stick one :D

    Good Luck!
It snowed...So we went out this morning hoping to stumble upon a moose. Saw a few Muleys but all doe.
Hopefully get out again tommorow and have some better luck:)
At this point anything I see with horn is going down! We have hunted hard since the beginning of the season and havent seen much, with this snowfall they should be on the move. Just need to be at the right place at the right time.

    Forgot to add:

I've got two tags, one either sex and one antlerless. I'll be focusing on getting ANYTHING via my bow during my time off, then focusing on antlers.

After all that is said and done, some of the REAL work begins!! I'm super stoked.

This winter I'll be stalking various fur over snow (ideally) and trying to harvest some small game via bow and arrow (or, if I get really adventurous, blowgun or slingshot), and trying my hand at soft-tanning at home. It's potentially a lot of work, but should be very rewarding.

The end goal is to use home-carved bone fish hooks and all natural self-harvested fur and other materials to tie flies for fishing.

Also I need some raccoon fur, I've got some plans in the works for a really wonky musky lure that combines some of the aspects of musky/pike flies, but is going to be heavy, BIG, and castable with a typical musky baitcaster.

    Great bucks!

I got my first bow and arrow whitetail last night, young doe, but I'm still stoked. I still haven't seen any bucks at all this year, but I think it's going to take a bit of time to get them figured out since this is only my second year ever hunting..

I'd post a pic of my "trophy", but it's not posed, just a quick snapshot before I hung it and dressed it, no one to take a photo of me and the entry wound is obvious.. so since this is not a hunting forum I'll spare the non-hunters eyes who may not appreciate it.

Congrats on your first bow harvest. Horns or no horns, if you took it with a bow, then it is a trophy. The rut should be kicking in any time now so the more time you can put in the woods over the next 10 days, the better your chances. Dem bucks be crazy during the rut. Good luck.

November 17th is opening day for me in NY. Regular season that is. I made sure I got a doe tag this year because I sat from 4-11am pretty much everyday and didn't see anything. So if I don't see a bucks at least ill get a doe.

I am intrigued by this idea. Need somebody to help test it out? I'm no pro at it, but I'll throw that sucker all day long if you've got a boat for me to stand in. :)

No boat, just a canoe :D

I'm picturing my lure to be an oversized "bunny fly" with a zonker tail, probably a good bit of flash, and multiple small blades for lots of flash.

Nice rack. Hey, look at that. We aren't talking about ball pythons and I can still say nice rack. What did that score? I would guess around the mid 140s.

Muskies in a canoe, eh? Sounds like you're going for the total upper-body workout when it comes to fishing. :)

That said, it sounds kinda fun, assuming it's not a ridiculously windy day.

It officially scored in the 160's but I can't remember the exact number. I was a huge pain in the butt too drag up from the bottom it expired in. My brother got this one the same day, and all I got was a sore back from helping drag them out of the woods. http://i1214.photobucket.com/albums/...t/100_1838.jpg And my cousin got this guy the same day as well. http://i1214.photobucket.com/albums/...t/100_2744.jpg

I woke up this morning and wanted to be in a tree-stand so bad..it's my therapy. I saw that it was 37 degrees up at the hunting camp and only a high of 62. I'm sitting here at work thinking about how I could be breathing in that crisp air with the smell of the leaves all around me and the silence of the woods enveloping me, the cold breeze on my face and the weight of my rifle in my hands..God I need a vacation.
