I think I got a lock! What do you think?

Here's the tail end of my 2000 gram Pied with my Clown het Pied. Do you think it's a lock?

Hope the pic loads... This is my first ever breeding. I'm so excited! We're still having some heat here in San Diego, but she was acting ready so I thought I'd give it a try.

Use the "preview post" to view your post as it will actually show on the forum. If you don't see a pic, neither will we.

You need to upload to photobucket or some similiar online hosting service.... and then copy the image address from there and paste it in your thread. You can't directly upload photos to the forum.... unless it's your avatar ;)

Definitely need a pic. But also if they are locked you will clearly see their tails intertwined.

What do you think? Good lock? They're still at it after 10 hours. This will be my first clutch. I'm thinking it should arrive in December. Right?

If she already has follicles developing you may see a clutch in Dec...

There is no telling when a female will ovulate, unless you are super good at feeling for follicles or have an ultrasound machine then you might be able to guess. Unless she is clearly near ovy now I highly doubt she will lay in December. Mine didn't lay until May/June this year and I started pairing that the end of October.

You will learn patience waiting for this clutch and from breeding in general.

Yeah we all wish that after a lock a clutch arrives in 45 days or so. If it were that easy would this hobby really be any fun? They may lock but that does not guarantee she will lay. Patience is key. Keep at it and good luck.

Yeah, I thought about starting with normals for the practice, but I've had snakes before, and I figure I'm not getting any younger, so I jumped right in with what I really wanted. Now I'm starting to eye those Enchi morph combos. Nice!

My pair locked many times last season (I started VERY late), to no avail. I could swear I heard them arguing about whether or not to go the fertilization clinic! LOL

I'm looking for an egg box with a clear lid so I can see without opening. Also, I'm going to give mom a chance to incubate the eggs. If she will, I'll let her. Now let's just hope I actually get eggs!:P

I had locks in August last year and our first clutch arrived in February I think...so if this is your first lock you've got potentially months and months to go, lol.

Put on your "patience" hat!! To relieve some of the impatience, I also breed corn snakes. You witness a lock with them, and you pretty much have eggs in 1-1.5 months. LOL

Even though I got a lock, I'm going to keep putting them together every week or two until I'm sure she's got eggs. That should make for some very happy snakes. :D
