How often does posting pics of babies lead to sales?
Just curious... For those that have shared with us pics of your new hatchlings, how often has that led to sales of those babies from that same posting? For those looking at purchasing a ball python, have you ever inquired about the price of one from a non-classified posting (through pm of course)?

I am working on a deal as we speak. I saw the animal and it blew me away so I inquired about it and now I am working something out with the seller. :) Thats why its important to take quality pics of the animals you intend to sell or even if you are unsure whether you intend to sell. I know when I see low quality pics of an animal I am turned off to the sale but if it looks pretty nice I will inquire about better pics and go from there.

I saw Jon F posted a picture of some low white pieds he hatched. I sent him a private message asking if he was looking to sell. I bought myself a female pied the next day. So I dont know how often it happens but I do know it happens.

I've sold many snakes from just posting non advertising pics :)

I've only placed two ads. The rest of mine sell from pictures I've posted. I've never had anything available for available page on my website, because they are usually sold right away.

This is a twist on the OP, but I just made an inquiry based on someone's YouTube vid of some adults they owned (not an ad) and wound up with a new hatchling out of it. Point being: quality images of quality animals can definitely lead to sales.

I do a little of both. Generally, I prefer to do pics. Customers tend to be more visually oriented when it comes to buying.

I got my eyeless hatchlings by inquiring on a pic thread on here. I'm sure it happens quite often

Not until the last year or so have I really started taking really nice photo's of my animals and since then I've had multiple people wanting to buy some of my animals that aren't even for sale. No question in my mind that the quality of the photo's help with sales. It's always nice to have a solid background color and have good lighting that picks up the colors well.

The Midwest Herp Symposium is in Omaha, Nebraska this weekend. Brian Barczyk from BHB and SnakeBytes.TV is one of the speakers (as am I) and his topic is "Using technology to connect with herpers".

It ties into this on a deeper level. The marketing, the branding, the reach that you have by posting as a business (breeder) online or just as a hobbyist. The interwebs has become such a powerful connective tool that even the simple posting of an animal pic often leads to sales and commerce. Pretty amazing.

When we had animals for sale, any online post might lead to a sale, even a simple forum comment. Facebook is now a major tool in connecting to other herpers both socially and commercially, and it is dominated by pictures.

I wrote a few thoughts on this same (expanded) topic, just a "7 inch" piece, but tying into what is basically "sharing a pic online". If you are completely caught up on Dexter, Tosh.0 and Sons of Anarchy, give it a quick read if you like.

I am not completely caught up on SoA. Only on season 4 now. But I loved it. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for chiming in Robyn! I bookmarked your article. By the way, The Reptile Report is awesome! I'm always "liking" and sharing things from your Facebook postings. It's amazing how you turned around your tragedy to new endeavors. Keep up the good work!

Showing off pictures is a way for breeders to do three thing's

First: Beat their chest and proclaim to the world "I beat the Odds like a red-headed step child" sort of a moment like in the movie "Castaway" "Look I've made fire..see I.. have made fire"
Second: Is to show the pride they take in producing the quality of animals they have..
Third: Is to simply share animals with the herping world that they know others will enjoy, these are the Musicians of the trade. People that show their work off simply so that others can enjoy it with them.

Has posting pics ever created sales, sure all the time. I personally like hearing "when I get ready to buy one of those, that's the quality I want" that lets me know I'm on the right track and producing animals that people will be as proud to own as I am to make them.

In the end everybody wins, get to see some awesome pics of really sweet snakes and the breeder get to kind of strut their stuff.
