Back to school blues
Well, school starts back for me this year, my last year of middle school (thank God). Anyone else here going back to school? I really don't want to go back, especially to the school I go to, my anxiety sky rockets, and that doesn't help my grades. I can't even remember what to do during the school day...maybe I need to go back....oh well....
-
Middle school !!! I miss those days trust me you will one day I am in my last year of college and man I wish I was in my middle school and highschool days trust me you will say this one day :)
-
No going back to school for me. I graduated Highschool 5 years ago and am still deciding what I want to do "when I grow up", lol.
-
I just had my freshmen orientation this morning, it was very awkward because I like knew nobody there except for my two friends that were there (there were two and I went to the alter one). SO many new faces, but I though geting lost in middle school was tough. Guess high school will be a completly diffrent lost than I will ever experiance! I'm really nervous for the first day!

My LAST semester for my AAS in Management starts on the 20th :gj: Then just gotta get done with classes for my Small Business Certificate then I'm done for now.

Re: Back to school blues
I will never EVER miss middle school or high school, trust me it will get better overtime... I've got to go back for 2 more years of college for zoology/biology
-
Yup classes start the 29th. Ive got like 2.5 semesters done so far.

Re: Back to school blues
I go back for my second year of High school soon.. I definitely get the anxiety!! I had it so bad in Middle school that I would stay home because I couldn't go. School goes super quick though. Good luck this year all!
-
I'm doing classes online, thank god. I had a truly miserable time in elementary/middle/high school, so I feel your pain, OP. Here's hoping that this year's better for you.
-
I graduated with my B.S. last December...and I already kind of miss school :) I'm hoping to go to grad to school in a few years once I've paid off some loans, and I'm sure I'll be eating my words then, ha! Anyways, good luck with your last year of middle school OP. I personally loved 8th grade, but I had some pretty awesome teachers, so that helped.
-
Ah Middle School... don't remember much of it to be honest. But I do severely miss High School. Those were the days. Didn't really think I would ever miss it while I was there but I would love to go back to those days. Even though they didn't seem like it, things were much simpler back then.

Re: Back to school blues
I'm not sure what is the source of your anxiety about going back to school. I have been out of high school for over 30 years so I don't know first hand what it's like today except to say I have 3 daughters ages 21, 19, and 15, so I have seen alot as a spectator. That being said, I offer the following advice and you are welcome to take or disregard any or all of it.
Don't put off your homework because it won't get easier by having less time to finish.
If you don't have time to do it right, you don't have time to do it twice. So try your best and if thats what you've done, accept the grade and move on.
Last, noone is really as cool as you think they are, and you are not as uncool as you think you are. It's all perception and only you can alter that. What you think of others is rarely what they think of themselves, and vice versa.
Remember this, even when you look at yourself in the mirror, the image you see is not what others see as it is reversed. Relax and enjoy.
-
Middle school? Consider yourself lucky. The work was a lot easier, and the schedule was less screwy.
From Monday Aug 20th to Thursday Dec. 13th, I get:
Mon: Get up at 7:30am, leave by 8:30 am, Physics I at 9:30 am, lunch at 10:51 am, Physics lab at 1pm, go home at 3:51 pm.
Tue: Get up at 9 am, leave by 10 am, Organic Chemistry I at 11 am, go home at 12:21 pm.
Wed: Get up at 7:30am, leave by 8:30 am, Physics I at 9:30 am, go home at 10:51 am.
Thur: Get up at 6 am, leave by 7 am, Oraganic Chem Lab at 8 am, lunch at 10:51 am, Organic Chemistry I at 11 am, go home at 12:21 pm.
From Fri Oct 5th to Sunday Oct 21st, I add in:
Fri: Leave by 5 pm, World Regional Geography at 6 pm, go home at 9:21 pm.
Sat: Get up at 6:30 am, leave by 7:30 am, World Regional Geography at 8:30 am, go home at 4:31 pm.
Sun: Get up at 10:30 am, leave by 12:30 pm, World Regional Geography at 1:30 pm, go home at 4:31 pm.
So, during October, I pretty much get a solid month of work because my college sucks and won't provide more classes of a pre-req class that everyone needs. The three weekend class was literally the only one I could fit into my schedule.

These are wise words.
I miss school...
Stay in school forever and enjoy every minute of it!
Oh, and grades are not as important as everyone makes them out to be. You just need to pass and if you know how to apply, you can get into a decent college out of state with a poor GPA.

Bull. Grades are important, since most courses require a C or above to advance courses and universities won't even look at you unless you have a 3.0 or above. Even with my community college, if you have a C in certain courses, the nursing and veterinary programs won't even look at an application. Also, you don't want a college out of state, either. Being an out of state student means paying a decent chunk more in tuition.

Oh how I wish I was back in middle school and not an adult, with a child, and bills, and a job. Bills SUCKS. Enjoy middle school. I know it's easier said than done, as it's always more difficult when you're going through it thanks to peers and peer pressure and bullying and just general adolescence...but just focus on your grades and you'll be fine. I learned once I got to high school how much easier it is to maintain a high grade than it is to pull yourself out of a low grade hole. So much less work!
-
Good luck op! I wish I was still in grade school. Being out of school and on your own with a job and all responsibilities being on you zSUCKS! And ive only been out of school since 09.

you all are making me feel somewhat old:D

I go back for my Senior year of College on the 28th. It's crazy how fast time flies. Enjoy it while you can. As much fun as it is to have grown up freedoms, grown up bills are no fun at all! :P Good luck in your last year of middle school, OP. And best of luck to everyone else headed back to school in the coming days and weeks.

I miss school.
My girlfriend is taking a 50% pay cut AND spending a few thousand dollars this fall to go to school. Be glad you have it while it's free, and make the most of it.

I feel like this applies here. Got this from the internet, i claim no rights to it.
"Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a high school about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept sets them up for failure in the real world.
Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!
Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice president with a car phone until you earn both.
Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.
Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.
Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault; so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.
Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.
Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you "FIND YOURSELF". Do that on your own time.
Rule 10: Television and video games are NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one."
So many kids in my generation have zero work ethic and no concept of real life. Their eyes get big when i tell them how much i have to pay for cell phone amonth, car insurance, car repairs, etc. and are even more baffled as to how i pay for it. Um lets see, its called work, you all should try it sometime lol! (I know this doesnt apply to everyone but id say it applies to a VERY good majority o my generation haha). It drives me right up the wall!

It might be just me, but I don't see how this nugget will help a young man in middle school cope with the anxiety of going back to school. I think this may be useful in about 4 or 5 years, but just a little off the mark for this thread.

It wasnt meant just for Jason. The thread involved people in high school too and people started talking about what is and what isnt really important as far as school. I really like Bill's take on high school and life in general.
My ranting in the end probably was off the mark lol, but the rest of it was applicable to the thread i believe.

Let me tell you, I was a TERRIBLE student. I barely scraped by from the moment I entered middle school to the day I graduated high school. I couldn't motivate myself to work hard because I didn't see a point in it, and I figured I wasn't smart enough to do better. I ended up dropping out of college and boy, have I learned my lesson the hard way. Real life is hard and the people who want your bill money don't care what happened at home or who died or what sad story you tell, they want their payment and you dang well better have it or watch the late fees pile up. Honestly, I might still be in that same slacker state of mind if I hadn't gotten my snakes. It's been over 3 years since I stepped into a school building but I'm determined to go back to school and get my vet tech and zoology degree. :) I start school in September/October (since it's online classes).
That being said, treat these years as your best years. You only get to do them (properly) once, and you can have a lot of fun finding out what interests you and what you like. I was "that nerdy girl" all through public school (I didn't "blossom" until college, really) and I know that if you're not "popular" then it can seem rough. I developed a severe case of anxiety in high school, so I know how much you probably struggle with it. But have fun with your public school system experience. Take time to explore new things because right now you have that safety net of your parents to catch you if you slip up or things don't go the way you planned. :P You don't know how much you'll miss that until it's gone.
And DO YOUR HOMEWORK. It's stupidly ridiculous how big of a percentage of your grade your homework is. If you do all your homework and projects, even if you're a terrible test taker you'll pass. :)
Oh, and another word of advice, when you get a job, SAVE YOUR MONEY. That's one of my biggest regrets. All that money I wasted buying stupid things and partying... Sigh... It makes me cry.

I do appreciate everyones posts in this thread, and the first day wasn't bad, but my WV Studies teacher, is such a.....sorry, this is a family site and I'm 13...so....& my homeroom teacher acts like a 7 year old so this will be a very exciting fun filled year . I do think I will enjoy it once I get back in the roll of things, and Mike, your post with Bill Gates rules, helped a lot honestly. I've already been told things that have been downgrading, whoooooooooo! I honestly hope this year goes by fast and I go onto high school, hopefully online.

Re: Back to school blues

Re: Back to school blues
School is a great thing (: I skimped my way through a lot of it, and it bit me in the butt, i had to get my stuff together this last year, but now Im going to WSU! So as long as you got a goal and work for what you want to do, school should be a blast, specially if you got a ton of friends. Just dont let them distract you from getting to class on time (; im a senior this year, im pretty darn excited, youll love it when your an upperclassmen. Good luck!
-
Oh yeah, and did I mention I got sent to the office, for not having a pencil, and I was also in the wrong class anyway.
-
I am taking this semester off ( save up some money). Miss those middle school days! Now I'm getting my degree in zoology.
