How much do you spend on food?
Just curious as to how much you guys spend on food every week.
-
-
-
lol I spend about $40.00 but I have the cheapest suppliers haha. If I was buying from a pet store easily over $100.00
-
About $85 a month on rat food and $60 for bedding keeps 70 BPs fed. Racks were probably close to $2K to build all together, but that has more than paid for itself after 1.5 years.
-
I spend about $100-$120, 3 or 4 times a year and i have 7 snakes.
Thats roughly $33-$40 a month. Thats me overestimating a wee bit too. So in actuality its probably closer to $30 a month.
-
Last time we went to the reptile show, we bought about $150 worth of rats and mice. It seemed like everyone was either going to a bigger size of food or they were running out of food. We also had to buy a bag of pinky rats (unexpectly) for the baby normal female balls that we got because the fuzzie rats we had looked too big for them. After a month of being with us, the girls are growing like weeds and can almost take the fuzzies. *sighs*
-
I buy in bulk about every 3-4 months and this time factoring shipping it worked out to about $1 a rat. So I would say ~40 a week since I have one that will only eat live.

Re: How much do you spend on food?
I breed my own. I get the bedding at Farm and Fleet, 8 cu ft cost me $4.95 and I get Mazuri at a local dealer that runs just over $20 a 50lb bag.
-
I'm starting my own breeding group of rats so its going to change soon I hope. As of right now I spend about $40-45 a week. If the store I go to ever closes I'll have to spend over $100 a week.
-
I spend about $30 a month on rat block and bedding and that keeps 14 snakes very happy with some left over.
-
Right now i only spend about $30 a month for Titan. Thats gonna change soon when i get my new lil one.

$30 a week?! :O
That seems like alot.

Purchasing live is more expensive than purchasing a big lot of f/t.

I recently found two suppliers, one bedding, one food. My bedding is $4.50 a bag, and I'm just passed below half full on one bag. (which has been easily a month). I buy 50 lb bag of food for $34, and that too is just passed below half full. So, a weekly guess....$3-4 a week, if that. I was buying those 3.3 lb rat/mouse food at an average of $8-12 a bag, which lasted 4-5 days. :O
-
I'm trying to breed my own mice because all our bps take live.
The store in town is cheaper, but are retarded and usually dont order a lot of mice. So if I go in a few days after their shipment, there probably won't be any and I'll have to drive a half hour to the city.
In town, $16
In the city, it's about $25
Per week.

Re: How much do you spend on food?
92 on rats a month bred by a friend and 20 on mice also bred by a friend($10 bag of bedding and I take what mice I need) ^_^
-
Re: How much do you spend on food?
I order rats every 6 months or so, and my orders usually end up being about $90... Meaning I spend about $4 per week.
-
I spend about $45ish a month on bedding and food for my rodents. Depending on my production I can make between $0-$15 a week selling extras.
-
I spend about 15 a month to feed my 9. I breed with a friend of mine.
-
£4.40 every 4 weeks so.. $6
-
I budget $50 per year per snake. That is a combination of f/t and live (rodent food, bedding, etc.).
-
We spend about on average 300.00 a week on food, and we raise our own rat's :D
-
About 160 a month to feed 18 snakes ranging from babies to adults live.

I like to figure about $1.25 per snake per feeding. I figure an average adult snake will eat about 40 times a year (offer every week, sometimes refused) so that comes out to $50.00 a year. If you have 10 snakes, that's $500.00 a year. If you have 100 snakes that's $5,000.00 a year. That's a pretty rough estimate though since each individual snake will be different.
-
Right now I spend about 10 a month for just my one snake :)
-
I spent ~80 (give or take $10) per month on rodents for 13 snakes. I guess that would mean I spend nearly $1000 a year on food for 13 snakes :gj:. I buy in bulk online, or from a breeder who is local, and reptile expos are a great place to get a good deal on rodents :gj:. I try to calculate how many rodents I'll need per snake for the amount of months I have until the next expo :gj:.
$1000 a year isn't as bad as I thought for 13 snakes lol.
-
i breed my own rats 1.2 group for 3 snakes. $5 for a big bag of bedding from tractor supply lasts for what seems like forever and their for less then $10 a week. for three snakes i could get 3 rats a week for $15 so im saving about $20 a month. its not that much but i enjoy keeping the rats..
-
We just did a big bulk order of rat fuzzies, rat pups, and small rats, and that was $110. I don't even remember how many we bought, I think it was like 15-20 rats per bag, idk. So we'll see how long that lasts.
-
Hmm, I'd say about $2.50 a week. Maybe $30 per 3 months. $30 will buy me 50 pounds of feed and 3 bags of pine. That's for one adult corn, one juvie corn, and 2 hatchlings that won't friggin eat consistently.. Lol dadgummit. I also take a few pinkies from each litter for the upcoming breeding season.
-
Roughly $45 a week :( but me and my boyfriend take turns every other week.

It's so cool that you share the responsibilities of your passion with your loved one :D.

About $40-50 for small and medium FT a month... I have one female that likes to skip meals every now and then! Also looking into purchasing bulk online or local reptile show/pet store. See if I could get that monthly cost down a bit. We shall see. I would like to start breeding my own rats but there space is limited. Thats just the economical way to say my fiancé said no lmao!
Very interesting to see how much others spend on there collection!
-
Our feeders pay us!:gj:
We spend roughly $120 a month on rat supplies but we have been producing enough extra that we are able to sell them and cover the cost of their supplies plus put alittle bit back into our reptile funds!
-
I breed my own rats and mice - my over production covers my Mazuri and bedding costs. Rats eat free, snakes eat free ....just takes a bit of elbow grease
-
I USED to breed all of my mice and rats, and it's a great way to save money or even make a little, but I found I was spending WAY too much time with them. I was spending a good three or four times more time with a bunch of stinky rodents then I was with my snakes, I was even spending more time with the rodents then I was with my family. That's when I decided that I'd rather pay for someone else to raise them and have that time back for other things.

I feel you! I got rid of my breeder rats when I moved. I have a great guy who delivers to me weekly, and he's also a customer of mine, so I sell critters to him for cash and rat credit.
We have a nice time visiting with him and his girlfriend each week and talk shop.

I still have a couple of tubs of rats for those stubborn live feeders and a few colonies of mice for the hoppers but overall having the extra time for other things has been wonderful.
