Day 50 egg question
So my clutch is on day 50 and all seems well, eggs are dimpled, there's condensation inside the tub.
I candled them just to get a look and they sure don't seem to take up much space in the eggs.
They take up maybe half of the egg with their bodies and the rest is yolk and veins.
Does this seem normal? Shouldn't they take up the whole space of the egg by now?

Ok if you say so!
This is my first clutch so it's hard for me to know what's normal yet. :)
The eggs are very small so i was worried from the beginning.
Could i safely cut the eggs on day 55 or should i wait longer?

Nope, half the egg is right on target, I have a clutch on day 54 and they're only filling about 1/2 their eggs.

You'll get plenty of different answers but I wait til my first pip to cut the rest. This is just in case they haven't developed quite as quickly as normally expected. When one pips you can be fairly certain the others are close enough, developmentally, to safely cut the rest.

Re: Day 50 egg question
I usually cut (carefully) around day 55-57. If its your first time, you might let them pip? Otherwise cutting has never been an issue for me, but you have to careful to not corrupt the "open" egg. That said, its fun to have a look and see what's coming ... :)

Ok, sounds like a good plan to me. I've heard of plenty of people doing it that way. It does seen the safest.
I've waited this long, wish they'd just hurry up and hatch already lol
Longest 2 months ever!

It's now day 55 and some of the eggs are quite dimpled (the ones on the right)
Should i cut? Or should i still wait until one pips?

I would, but I'm also concerned about the one on the left, in the middle row, almost looks extremely moldy on the bottom.

That egg has had his "window" for several weeks. I've had to q tip betadine on it to remove any mold about every other day.
Just candled them all the other day and they are all moving around in there quite nicely. I was getting worried about those few that are really scrunched up.
Anyone else have an opinion on the matter?

If it was me I would cut. ive never had a problem cutting at day 50 or 55. You should be fine if you want to cut but you can always wait for the first one to pip either way good luck

Been following this post. Any updates?
-
I would wait, they look kind if dry to me but I have only used vermiculite on eggs, never really got the need for substrate less?
-
I think they look fine for day 50. If you can raise the humidity, it may help. I would wait until day 55 to cut.

Well i cut, i must say it was the most nerve racking experience in breeding yet lol.
This is my first clutch so their very important to me.
The pairing was a lesser x normal.
I have 6 lessers, 2 normals and 2 i couldn't tell, their bellies were up.
Not bad odds at all!
The couple eggs that are really scrunched don't seem to have very much liquid in the eggs and i can see some yolk. Hope they pull through ok.
All the babies were alive in the eggs though.
It's day 55, now i wonder how long until they come out :)
I took a couple photos I'll have to post them later.
I'm very happy with the results but I'm still nervous.

Re: Day 50 egg question
just don't let the sac dry. add water if you have too. and make sure you have it at the same temp, good reason to keep a few bottles in the incubator. once they pip they should remain in the egg until they absorb their yolk. (usually 24 to 48 hours) good luck, you're almost there.

add water to the inside of the egg if it gets dry?
I guess I'm confused about the water bottle part too.

Re: Day 50 egg question
I keep water bottles full with the caps on them in my incubator. helps in keeping temps stable and if you need to add water, it's at the right temp. yes, add to the inside of the egg. I use distilled water.

before it gets dry, don't let it dry out

what he means with the water bottle is he gets a few bottles of distilled water an leaves them in the incubator as they will warm up to the same temp as the bator as well as hold the heat for when you open the bator. What he does when his eggs seem try after you cut is add a little bit of the distilled water into the egg itself so it doesnt dry out. Hope that helps ya an goodluck

Ermahgeerd!
One of my hatchlings had his head poking out of his egg. But once i opened the door he tucked back in...darn it!
I went ahead and cut slots a little bigger so they can get out easier.
I'm excited! I'm supposed to be in bed right now...i can't sleep at a time like this!
