Big snake ban... Is the Retic an exception?
I was browsing snakes for sale and I seen "Burmese Python- out of stock, banned, Rock python- Out of stock, Banned, Green anaconda-out of stock, banned, yellow anaconda- out of stock, banned, Reticulated python- 200 plus shipping." Does that mean I can really buy a retic online still?!?!

Yep, retics were not part of the ban, go figure!

Re: Big snake ban... Is the Retic an exception?
It makes absolutely no sense... But its still good. Ive been wanting one.
-
I absolutely love retics but I could see them being banned before a burm. Makes no sense at all!

Re: Big snake ban... Is the Retic an exception?
me too.... because from all I have read a Retic is bigger than a Burm right? And this ban was directed towards very large snakes.
-
I don't think it was just about big snakes, it was more about potentially invasive and dangerous species as perceived by a few folks with power.

green anacondas were not banned. Burmese pythons, north and south african rock pythons and yellow anacondas were put on the lacey act. So far the others have not been added.
-
Yeah, so far the Retics have skated past. Local laws here in Vermont ban them though - so you gotta make sure they are allowed in your state before you order them. Reputable breeders won't send a snake to a state with laws against them. I believe the punishment here is $500/per foot of snake, or a jail sentence - and the death of the animal in question. Don't quote me on that, its 3am...

Re: Big snake ban... Is the Retic an exception?
Arkansas has pretty much no reptile laws, so long as you do not attempt to sell local wildlife.

Once again more stuff that makes no sense, yellow anacondas are bigger. Oh well once again it is still a good thing to have a little freedom in snakes left.. for now. Im sure they will be attempting a ban on the retic and green anaconda soon.

I meant smaller... not bigger

To clarify, the rule making that was passed lists only the Burmese python, the Two African rocks, and Yellow Anaconda. It is still legal to own and sell them within your state, but importation and interstate sales/transport is not allowed.

Yeah I know

Check for local ordinances as well. County, city, town, etc can all have laws/rules against pretty much anything. Better to check first than to have officers knocking on your door later.
As far as it not making sense which snakes were banned and which were not... they'll simply be adding the other species later on. I fully expect retics and some others to be 'added on' next year. After all, the wording did allow for them to add any species they like without any other officials needed to authorize... unless they removed that little clause before it passed.

And this is why we need to continue to fight this and overturn it.
