Yeah get more. Carpets are great. Compared to the ball pythons it's like..... having a snake. As opposed to.....having a rock. :D

We recently got a BP as our first snake. My 12yr old desperately wants a Jungle carpet python. Are they easily handle able? We want a snake we can hold and interact with but not one that is excessively flighty or nippy. Would you recommend a Jungle carpet? There is a beautiful young one available locally and I'm considering it as a birthday gift for her?

They can be nippy as youngsters but with a bit of handling most calm down easily enough.

They are great, but they are not ball pythons... where a BP is naturally wired to ball up[ when threatened a Carpet Python is not. That said I love handling my carpet python (75% coastal 25% jungle Carpet Python) Some can be nippy when they are young but 99% of them will completely grow out of it.

If there is one local to you then I would suggest that take a look at it first hand. (I would take your Daughter as well) hold this particular CP and get a feel for him/her. Jungle Carpets will get bigger than a BP will so keep that in mind.

Here is a good resource on Carpet Pythons:

Jungles are great for first carpet pythons, and if you already have some experience with BP's then I would say go for it.

Thanks. We actually visited him yesterday and she held him for 15-20 minutes and absolutely fell in love. She has giving me the puppy dog eyes for 2 days, begging me to buy him. He was very calm. Definitely more active than most of the BPs we've handled. But not at all flighty or aggressive.

haha, its cool man, we all gotta ask n learn somewhere. as far as carpets, just like has been said, they arent balls. they are way more active. better display animals too. mine never goes in her hide. she did at first but now she sits in her trees all day and checks out what is going on. as far as handling, mine is nippy in her cage but once she is out of the enclosure she is fine. very active when being held. definately not a tv watching lap snake like a ball but super fun to handle and a very confident and curious little girl. if the one you held was docile and your daughter felt good holding it, buy that thing!!! as far as size, if you want to stay on the smaller end of carpets, look at an Irian Jaya.

Thanks lefty. I don't know what sex this one was or if it was anything other than a standard JCP. I'm going to Ho back tomorrow and talk to them about it. If they will hold it for me until the end of September, I will probably buy it.
