What have I done?!?!?

    What have I done?!?!?
I got a [forced] haircut yesterday... I'm about to drive myself insane!!!!!

After 4 years of faithfully growing my healthy hair, yesterday, by 'orders' of my father, who really trolled me, I had to say goodbye to a huge (literally, lol) part of me :(

To start, my parents never approved of my long hair, which I totally understand, them being very Religious. I mean, I understand them, if I was a very religious person (fanatic, maybe) I'd hate to look at my son who has longer hair than most women in the family, and is always wearing Metal band t-shirts.

They, but specially dad, have been trying to get me to cut my hair for the last 4 years, and I've had passed on great offers (trips with them, cash money, good job offers, etc...) just to stay loyal to that one thing (well, one of the few) that I had never given up on.

Sooooooooo how did he troll me?
Well, as a some of you know, I'm taking a real nice European Vacation this summer, and he agreed to pay for it... Score!
I'm leaving tomorrow, and yesterday he came to me, serious, and told me that if I didn't get a haircut, I wouldn't be going to Europe, plus I'd have to reimburse all the money he had put into it, which goes without saying, was a LOT!

I know it's just hair, and it'll grow back, but still, I made a lot of effort to keep it that long. And it was something special, I'm just not me right now :(

Oh and my Ex-Gf and I just officially broke up... :( 5 years worth of great memories is going to take a while and lots of effort to forget.

    Sorry for the vent

On a 'funny' note, I feel like I've got the Hetfield Syndrome... Lol

Sorry for any grammatical errors, I'm on the phone (I never use auto-correct), plus I'm mad as hell.

So long hair on Jesus is fine, but not on their son?

I had my long hair cut when I got to boot camp...it was the least of my worries at the time...

AKedit: Beaten to the "Jesus had long hair" theory.

Look on the bright side, there are short haircuts which go equally well with metal band shirts. I sport a mohawk most of the time. Completely shaved works too!

Exactly, I have told them that, but they don't care... Lol

I know how you feel. I had hair halfway down my back a couple years ago and I had to cut it for a job when we moved. Again, religion was to blame as the management was heavily swayed by religion. Complete crap if you ask me. I think your father blackmailing you like that says a lot about his character!

You don't have to be Kerry King to pull off a shaved head. Look at David Draiman, he rocks a chrome dome without any facial hair just fine. If anyone questions it, just raise your arm at a 45 degree angle with your hand flat. They won't question you then. ;)

Please... Don't... I had a mullet back in the 80's growing up in North Carolina. It was cool back then and I wore it with pride, but this is 2012. Are you trying to get this poor boy injured?

I think that says a lot about your fathers character as well, really messed up. It's not about the hair you know, forcing your illogical religious views on some one else is wrong. Aside from that it may have been worth it because you get to go to Europe (which won't be bad if you enjoy your parents company). Hair always grows back.

They're not forcing their religious believes in me, they sadly accept the fact that I'm agnostic.

And I'm not going with them :p

Religion?? They must be nazis then because I believe it's stated in the bible that you're not supposed to cut your hair. I'll never understand people who claim to be of Christian religion but they only follow a small percentage of what the bible says. Make up the rest as they go. Lol

My mother always told me that a change in hairstyle goes with changes in your life. My relationships always seem to revolve around my hairstyles haha!

Don't worry about it. Hair will grow back. It's best to embrace the change. Who knows, maybe it will grow on you! (oh see that pun??)

Got a verse for that one?

I mean I'm not trying to be "that guy" here but come on guys/gals, these false assumptions, and horrible accusations are a little startling in this thread. I try my absolute best to not get involved in religious arguments, ESPECIALLY online, but frankly I couldn't say nothing. Oh and the comments about Jesus having long hair made me lol!

Anyway, sorry about your hair man, it will grow back with time! I hope you have a great time over-seas!

(PS just to not turn this thread into a back and forth religious thing, I will refrain from any further comments, if someone feels so inclined you can PM me!)

Don't cut your hair nor shave. (Leviticus 19:27)

Other fun laws from Leviticus and Deuteronomy:

Kill anyone with a different religion. (Deuteronomy 17:2-7)

If you find out a city worships a different god, destroy the city and kill all of it's inhabitants... even the animals. (Deuteronomy 13:12-15)

People who have flat noses, or is blind or lame, cannot go to an altar of God (Leviticus 21:17-18)

Don't wear clothes made of more than one fabric (Leviticus 19:19)

There are LOADS more crazy things in those two books. Christians tend to over look almost all of the ones that don't have to do with homosexuality.

No false assumptions here.. If I didn't think it stated not to cut your hair in the bible, I would not have posted that. Not without actually finding the verses myself. I knew it was in there though. Just not where.

Anyone want a betting pool on how long for this thread to be moved to quarantine?

No one should assume that all religious people are evil wife-beating child molesters... any more than they should assume that anyone with long hair is a lazy layabout who wants a free ride through life.

To the OP, your hair will grow back and once you're on your own, you can grow your hair as long as you like or dye it blue or whatever. If you live at home and such, then you get to follow some rules.

Also, most likely Jesus didn't have long hair. Since he was a carpenter's son/carpenter, they usually had short hair(most workers then had short hair), but no one actually has any idea, since they didn't have cellphones to take candid pictures of Jesus walking down the streets to post on the ancient internets that were created by the aliens who made crop squares. Of course, nowadays all the crops formations are circles because over the centuries the corners wore off and now they are round.

I assume all people are crazy. Everyone has their outlets and coping methods, and if religion is yours, than who am I to criticize that. I do however have a problem with people forcing their beliefs down other people's throats, or using their scriptures as an argument in a completely unrelated discussion.

I get my release from the gym, but I don't quote Arnold Schwarzenegger when having a discussion about something mundane such as cutting my hair.

Religion is a very personal thing and should be kept as such, especially now when there is so many different belief systems operating within our society. The problem is that religion has a tendency to create self righteous ignorance.. There is nothing wrong with being religious and having your own beliefs as long as you recognize that they are YOUR beliefs and not everyone else's.

This is coming from someone who is a baptized Anglican, but has also studied some Wicca, read parts of the Qur'an and has read the Satanic bible all the way through. I am not a stranger to religion, i just don't agree with the way it is organized and they way it is manipulated by some.

I used to have hair so long I could sit on it...it's not the same but after a girl at my secondary school decided to try and set my hair on fire, and then someone else decided to bully me about it and pulled a large chunk of it out at one point, I ended up having to cut it off :( It was horrible. Really horrible. I feel your pain.

You are not translating that line well. Assuming you are trying to make all the various parts of the bible fit together its pretty clear you should cut your hair but not your beard.

    Ezekiel 44:20
They shall not shave their heads or let their locks grow long; they shall surely trim the hair of their heads.

    Leviticus 19:27
You shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard. (this is about side burns and beards)

    1 Corinthians 11:14
Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a disgrace for him,

Your hair is cut now. Get over it. As for your father. You could have just not gone on the trip and not paid him. His request that you pay him back would never hold up in court. End of the day its hair. The point is its gone now. You have two choices. Get over it. Or call whine-1-1.

Wow, I should never opened this thread. For the OP if you are in a position to ask your father for money, you are also in a position to respect his wishes. He's letting you go to Europe on his dime. I'm sure that isn't the first time he has asked you to cut your hair. And you allowed others to bash a man (and his beliefs) that you should at the very least respect. Grow up.
And for the religion bashers, being that close minded is just as ignorant as your friends over at PETA wanting to get rid of our snakes. Not every religious person is a rapist or molester. Please do not state it as of it were that way.

I don't believe anyone is saying that all religious people are rapist or molesters. As an atheist it is completely understandable that whether or not a person is a rapist or a molester is completely separate from their religious belief. I don't make a habit of telling others what is moral and what is not. It is on the other hand the practice of many religious people to declare that there is a moral authority and that they are acting in accordance with that authority. I believe that the point that was trying to be made was that its particularly nonsensical when religion is used as a basis to tell people how they should live when there are so many examples of people claiming to be religious while simultaneously acting in direct opposition to beliefs they claim to have. I would agree with you that the OP's father has a certain amount of control they are entitled to express in exchange for financial support. I don't see "Cut your hair or no vacation," as being a particularly "cool" thing to say but I see no problem with it. On the other hand saying "Hey do you want to go to Europe, ok cool then cut your hair or you need to pay me back for these tickets I bought you" is flat out wrong. You can not hold someone accountable for a contract they did not agree to.

Erm, also if he had agreed to it on the condition that the OP cut his hair at the time the agreement was made that might have been different - and as far as I can tell this wasn't the case?. The OP might have had time to think about it...but he dropped it on him at short notice. Unfair isn't the word.

Your right only half. While I agree many religious people have a "holier than thou" complex and over impose their opinions, that doesn't make them rapists, wife beaters, molesters or any other sick monster. I understand that the post was probably never intended to be read as literal statement but it was followed by another post with a link, and so I'm left to wonder whether it's actually believed that all men of faith are that way or is the poster trying to make a scene. Also the OP stated that his post was a rant do I'm guessing the conversation between him and his father played out a little differently than he posted. My guess is it went closer to like this,
Op father: I'm tired of asking you to cut your hair, if you don't then you won't go to Europe.
    Op: Fine I won't go.
Op father: Then you will repay me for what I've spent.

It just seems to me a man who is willing to drop that kind of money on his son isn't also going to be that big of a jerk. Maybe I'm wrong but I was a rebellious youngster with long hair once too.

I believe you are mixing me up with sho220. I most certainly do not believe that all people of faith are any particular way. All we can do is give people the benefit of assuming they are truthful and well meaning. I assume sho220 was exaggerating to make a point. Its that point that I was defending. If sho220 believes all people of faith can be classified together I certainly disagree and retract my support. I further assume that the OP is telling us the truth. If his father bought tickets and then after the fact decided that whether or not his hair was cut was part of the deal then the father is in the wrong no matter how much money he spent. You simply can not manipulate people into doing what you want with tricks and maintain the moral high ground. I agree with you that the OP should cut his hair and enjoy his time in Europe. Its not my decision to make though. He should have the right to refuse the monetary support in exchange for the right to keep his hair. The OP is after all an adult at the age of 21.
