People Trading Weird Stuff For Snakes?
So I've started to notice a trend on CL, KS, and our own classifieds here.
It seems people are wanting to trade random non-reptile related goods for snakes or vice versa.
I've seen snakes for snakes, snakes for other animals, and snakes for racks or other supplies. But this random stuff just throws me.
Has anyone actually done such a trade?
-
Strange...
I have never done any trades like this myself, but do know someone that traded a pair of Sugar Gliders for breeding size female pastel... lol
-
I trade snakes for the little green printed bits of paper, Been offered boats, motorcycles, Xbox, Camera equipment. Never taken any of them though.

Re: People Trading Weird Stuff For Snakes?
Yep. Traded an old car of mine for a couple nice snakes. I've done some other trades too. Nothing wrong with people trading something they have for something they want.

Wow, thats pretty cool. Must have been an interesting negotiation. What car and snakes where involved in the trade if you don't mind me asking.

I'm trying CL to sell my 2 balls now and all I get are trade offers... Cameras game consoles and such... and trend is not new..
Back in 2008/2009 Fauna already had Trade section in Forum and one of most popular trade believe or not was gunz for snakes...
-
The barter system is the oldest form of commerce....why not utilize it?
I traded a Panther Chameleon and cage for my male Mojave 100% Het VPI Axanthic and a Beretta 9mm for my female Albino.

Re: People Trading Weird Stuff For Snakes?
I bought an '02 Ford ZX2 brand new back in '02. I was still driving truck at that time, so it spent a lot of time sitting. Last year when we got word we were moving to Montana we decided it wasn't coming with us. It only had something like 34k miles on it and was in great condition. Bluebook was only five grand, but it was only a twelve grand car to begin with. LOL
Breeder nearby was looking for a car for his just-turned-16 daughter. I got a pastel enchi female and a lesser het clown male, both at the time worth $5k. We both walked away more or less happy.

Damn, restricted firearms here are hella expensive... The 92FS in 9mm is like $1000 and the PX4 Storm is almost double to price that it is in the states. Sounds like a good trade to me.

I paid $425 for the Beretta 92FS brand new. I traded it to a guy in Indiana for the female albino. I paid the transfer fees and shipping for the gun and he paid to ship the BP. It came out to be a pretty fair deal on both ends.
I hear the gun control laws in Canada are crazy strict....not bashing it by any means....I love Canada.

$425.... Haha, wow. And YES, super super strict! I could go on and on.
Sorry for HI-jacking the thread momentarily Chris, trading guns got me going. ;)

Re: People Trading Weird Stuff For Snakes?
I had a guy try to trade me a cell phone once. I declined, so he tried to trade with pot...

I posted an add on craigslist a few months ago trying to see if anyone would like to trade computer parts for BP's but no dice. I work with computers and build computers as one of my hobbies too so I have tons of computer parts laying around.

Re: People Trading Weird Stuff For Snakes?
That was a good deal on the Baretta. I paid $875 cash for my 92FS from a dealer.

we have loads of hunters, but just don't feel the need to bare arms/carry weapons. Tons of laws on even how our rifles and shotguns work. Like if you were using a pump action, only one in the chamber, and one in hand. Caught with anymore, and that's fines and possible jail time. They try to keep the gun laws to strictly hunting purposes only. No reason to have you shotgun loaded for an assault.
;)

Just an FYI... Firearms in Canada, Trading Firearms.
Non-Restricted Firearms (Any Pump or Semi-Automatic Shotgun with a barrel-length greater than 18.5 inches) must be plugged to 3 shells while hunting. If trap or target shooting you may be fully loaded with no chamber plug. Rifles follow a similar rule while hunting and may not have any more than 5 rounds loaded and all magazines must be pinned to 5.
Restricted Firearms (All Handguns, Assault Rifles and a number of other firearms) - Can only be transported from your home to an authorized shooting range (that you must be a member of). If you do not have a membership at a shooting facility your firearm cannot leave your place of residence unless paperwork is filed and an Authorization to Transport has been granted.
This all being said and to keep on topic I have never seen any reptile trades for firearms. Since the long-gun registry has now been removed Non-Restricted Firearm trades are easy and could be considered if proper licensing is provided. Resticted firearm trades would still need to go through the government and all proper paperwork would need to be completed as mentioned above, quite the lengthy process.

Yeah, it is almost common practice, I see lots, and lots of odd trades. But as long as both parties in the trade are happy when they walk away, who is to say that just because it is an odd trade that it wasn't a good one? For example, currently, I am looking into a Ball Python trade for a Siberian Husky puppy, if I find one and the trade goes well, I would consider it a good trade.
-
I think for some people who discover this hobby, they naturally look to trade the accouterments of the last hobby to fund the new one.

Re: People Trading Weird Stuff For Snakes?
I traded my baby alligator for an adult male cinnamon, smartest move on my part
-
Post zombie apocalypse, Ball Pythons will be the primary form of currency.
:OI'm preppin'.:O

I can see how that would have been a smart trade, then again I don't think your Alligator would worry you with hunger strikes or refusing F/T. =)
My wife and I were looking to get a Dwarf Caiman a while back, decided against it for the time being until we can justify building a habitat for it at the farm.

Ha ha! Yes, because if that happens, they would be one of the only animals quiet enough not to draw attention to you.

It happens even when you put NO INTERESTED in any trade and bold red letters
This was a memorable one

2011 female VPI black back ball python - iPod - knifes -blow gun - signed packers helmet - signed broncos helmet - camera - ps3 call of duty account - dc brand back pack - skull candy headphones - Shark jaw with teeth.
I can combined things to even out the deal if needed.
I guess the guy was trying hard to find things around his house he could trade for one of my animal.
Still can't believe I passed on the shark jaw

Re: People Trading Weird Stuff For Snakes?
 Everyone needs a Shark Jaw in their collection!

I have been offered tattoo work for snakes on more than one occasion. I was amazed that they were surprised when I said no. I love tattoos....but that is not the context in witch I would go about getting work done. (Especially after they started sending me pictures of their "work":weirdface)

Not just any shark jaw...a shark jaw with teeth! That's got to be worth 5 or 6 dollars at any flea market in Florida ;)

Haven't started selling snakes yet but have been offered a chinchilla and cage by one person and this kid wanted to trade me a stereo for a baby crested.

LMAO just went on craigslist like I do every afternoon:
I've got a female Lesser Ball Python for adoption that I'm looking to trade for anything with an engine (motorized scooter would be great). She's extremely friendly and tame. Her coloring is beautiful and she'll be able to breed in about 2 years, if you're interested in breeding Ball Pythons. I have the full tank set up (10 gallon terrarium, aspen bedding, heat lamp, heating pad, 2 temperature gauges, 1 humidity gauge, and 2 hiding places for her). If you're interested in trading or have questions, please email me and I will respond ASAP. Everything cost me $650 originally
Here's a recent video I made of her..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oBt_D_wAMA
Description on the video says it was obtained 4.29.12 :colbert:

Well in all seriousness, being the football fanatic that i am, i would have inquired about the helmets. A Clay Matthews and a Terrell Davis signed helmets would look great in my room. :D

Wow! This thread took off.
Just for the record, I don't see anything wrong with it. Or that it a new thing But I've been looking through these places regularly now for a year and it seams to me that in the last couple months these types of trade requests are happening more frequently.

What?! You should have taken it! As long as they were stainless steel ones, you can never have too many good stainless steel pots.
Lol sorry, couldn't help myself.

I find it amusing when people trade video games or consoles for reptiles. Good to know that an animal is just as disposable as your old Xbox.

Re: People Trading Weird Stuff For Snakes?
We have traded:
- Our labor cleaning a rat barn for a friend's snakes.
- Bought display terrariums for the same friend's yearling GTPs, and in return got fire female.
- We've traded our feeder rats to friends for their contribution to cleaning our rats.
So.. nothing too out there, as it is all related to the hobby, but those are the trades we have done that were not a direct money-for-snake or snake-for-snake.
-
Re: People Trading Weird Stuff For Snakes?
I've seen all sorts of things offered up for trades...high end watches, fine wines, labor/services, etc... My favorite ever was a couple years ago, I came across an ad saying, "Looking to trade bp for something, make offers", with absolutely no parameters as to what they may be interested in.

That's not really fair. I'm not sure what's "disposable" about about someone trading an older console that's collecting dust in their garage to a breeder that wants it and would just use the money from a cash sale to buy it instead. I normally don't accept trades but wouldn't mind if it was the same item I would be purchasing regardless of the deal (which granted has not happened to date).
I would agree with you though about animals being disposable when people list their family dog in trade for more morphs . I see these pop up every now and then and those "traders" immediately make my stay away from list.

There is a guy in kc that is constantly trying to trade tattoos for snakes but his work is soooooooo bad! Everyone on craigslist makes fun of him every time he posts his ad.

So, if anyone has a killer clown enchi calico banana yb for trade, I'm offering my son for one. Would prefer female but will settle for a male. Here is a pic.

I've only done snake for snake before. Never thought about other random stuff lying around the house.
Oh btw no my son isn't really for trade hope I didn't get anyone's hopes up.
-
I saw an ad for a beautiful normal adult female ball, very light color and no spots. The guy wanted to trade an rrod (broken) xbox360 for her. Sadly he had already sold her by the time I called, I would have loved to trade. Some of the items I have seen offered seem weird, but there's nothing wrong with a good old fashioned trade that leaves both parties satisfied.
-
I tend to see, what I assume are kids trying to trade xbox's and ps3's for morphs on CL.

Well Mike your a good guy so we might be able to work something out... I keep him in a monkey enclosure (you can pick one up at the zoo for around $50) and he gets 1 rabbit a week actually. Along with with fruits and veggies. Don't forget he needs UVB too. Lol
