I never thought that I would be posting here!!!
Just as my title states I never thought that I would be posting in this section. I have always been scared to death of Tarantulas. Well I decided to overcome my fears. I bought my first one three weeks ago. It is a nice size Rosehair. This past weekend I also picked up a Mexican Fireleg. I am really not planning on anymore for a while. I want to get use to the ones that I have.

LOL... I don't know about that. I really didn't have a choice about handling it. One of my friends brought her son over, and he reached right in and pulled it out. I could be shown up by a 10 year old....lol

Any animal can bite....lol I chose the ones that I did because of how docile they are known to be. I didn't want anything that was going to try and bit me every time I opened it's cage....

All tarantulas are venomous. Most species venom aren't that medically significant but there are a few species that, while they won't kill you, will make you very uncomfortable. It's best to avoid being bit by any species of tarantula. They can all bite but the species and the individual tarantula's attitude itself will effect the likelihood of being bit. There are no poisonous tarantulas that I know of.

I would be more than happy to be shown up by a 10 year old boy in this respect...I will openly admit to having an irrational fear of tarantulas that I wouldn't even know how to go about getting over if I really wanted to.

    Anyhow, Congrats to you!

    Congrats! They're beautiful!
I used to have a fear of Ts. But since a rosehair had to be my Bio lab partner2 years ago, I then realized they're harmless and not all creepy crawly after all. I would consider owning one now if my roommates weren't so frightened. They already stiffly tolerate my serpents.

And its funny that I like big Ts, but little bitty house spiders still freak me out at times...

Congrats on the new T's! I was never really too interested in getting one, then on a whim picked one up at a reptile show. Now I have eight, so they do grow on you. :D

Both your T's look good, that little fireleg is very nice! May have to get one of those next? ;)

My smithi is a little 'skittish' sometimes but will tolerate being held....

:o A reminder that also some tarantulas have something special spiders don't....;) while all are venomous to varying degrees of intensity, a few tarantulas have a bonus--when threatened, they can kick urticating hairs, yow! They can get in your eyes, nose, skin, etc and cause a lot of irritation. ;) Just be sure not to tick off your tarantula if they can kick hairs, lol, you don't want them!
