Bumblebee I am rescuing
http://i.imgur.com/gLqUp.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/qTSpu.jpg
It's already rescued by a fellow breeder, but he has no plans for him so he just wants the space and rather the extra food for something he can use. It's a little under 500g. I'm paying $80 for him, think that's a good deal?
He's a low grade bumblebee, right? The pattern is too busy to be just spider.
-
It's hard to say with those pics, but based on those pics alone, I see a spider. Most especially at only 500 grams, a bumblebee would /should have way more yellow.
Edit: although the head is so light colored, I'm really not sure? Better pics maybe?
-
Look at the head. Spider would have the clock.. That's a low grade bee. If anything I'd buy him get him healthy then send him on his way to a good home at least. And make a few bucks in the process of Doing a good deed... Everybody wins
-
My idea was to get him up to weight, pair him to a normal or pastel... or if my butter gets up to weight in time(doubtful)... or to my albino female and make het albinos! then send him on his way once I have a good off spring :)
How much would you guys pay for him? I'm trying to see if it's worth the money. It's in a good home now, but I'd like to think it'd be better in my care ^_^
-
I mean a snake is worth to you what you are willing to pay for it haha If u like 80... 80 is good then.
-
It's a bee, for 80 bucks..... Scoop it up before I do!

Yea, I can tell there is something else going on, I have a really good spider and it looks nothing like that. I'll make the drive down there today and pick it up, thanks guys! Just wondering though...
how often should I try feeding this guy? Since he's underweight... you can tell in the pictures by looking at his spine... Just the regular once a week offerings?
I'm gonna try to get him on FT... but should I hold off on that and do live until his weight is up? Thanks guys!
-
yes, it's a bee. the head pattern screams bee. he's low grade, yes. but he's a bee - 100%
-
i would wait 5 days and than feed every five days. IMO
-
Not something I'd breed but it is a bee...$80 is a deal
-
Looks bee to me, just not a good one color wise. I wouldn't breed it either. It should be holding its yellow better. http://img.tapatalk.com/aefdc33b-7e90-2810.jpg
Not the best picture, but this is my bee at close to 500 grams. She is still holding her yellow. $80 is cheap though.

It's a Bee no doubt about that, not something g I would ever put in a breeding project but a good animal if you are looking for a pet, as for the $80 just remember it is a rescue so what you think is a good deal may not be and cost you more than a nice looking animal that is not a rescue.
-
I would certainly rescue that Bee for $80, but I would not breed him due to his low color quality.
He'll probably make an awesome pet!
-
Re: Bumblebee I am rescuing
its a bee but a low quality bee
-
You are correct, chewy. He's a low grade bee :gj:. I also would never breed him. Dish out the extra bucks to get a hot male bee to put to your pastel and produce something you'll be proud of!
-
For 80 I would pick it up just to add to my collection. Even if you don't plan on breeding it, it's still a cool looking animal for a pet.
We could all be jumping to conclusions also, maybe some more pics will show a lot more yellow. You never know.
-
Yes it's certainly a bee.
But as brown as it is I'd never breed that. Indiscriminate breeding is what produced him, and face it he's not what you think of when you think of a bumblebee ball python. He will certainly never produce high quality bright colored offspring, although if you had an exceptional female he might produce average offspring.
I am ranting a bit I suppose, but it pains me to see people breeding low quality animals just to produce a certain morph. Pastels of course come to mind first, but bees and fires and vanillas all fall into that category as well. If I'm going to breed for a morph, I want the best quality animals I can find, so that their offspring will be even better.
I can pick up $50 pastels all day long, but I'd never breed one. If I get a pastel to breed, I want one of like Robin's babies out of Winston, and I'll happily pay $250 + for it.
$80 is certainly a good price, even if he's just a pet.

So you guys think he wont produce any nice looking off spring? I picked him up, he certainly has dull coloring. But honestly, I love it... it's super grungy looking... but I don't want it as a pet as I want to get into breeding for a living eventually, can't make room for pets on the rack!
-
^ Get him healthy and up to weight then find him a good home. Use the money you get from rehoming him towards a better breeder-worthy bee. You'll be grateful you did. My .02
-
If you want to breed him then for sure, do it! :) now will he make any money worthy off spring? Maybe not. Could you find something better to pair your female to? Absolutely. But if you want to see what he throws and get into breeding then go for it. Worst case if the offspring don't sell, you can see if a local pet store will buy them, or just donate them.

If his off springs held his odd coloring... I think he'd look really interesting in certain morphs... I'll try to get some pictures of up tonight with my t2i.
-
Dumb question but ur not the chewy from snakebytes tv are you?

Na, heard of him after I registered... just a childhood nickname lol
-
I would scoop him up for sure, good luck with your decision.
-
Good luck with him, hope he eats better for you! ;)

Re: Bumblebee I am rescuing
Please don't call it a rescue if your only intent is to breed it. Just like the other breeder who "rescued" him. It's not a rescue if you get him, then flip it because you have no use for it.
-
OP...before listening to all the naysayers saying don't breed him, check RDR's birthing records and see what he can produce with browned out Pastels. Check out the last couple of years and look at the pics of Pastel "Mom on eggs"...there's more to "selective breeding" than just picking the best examples of morphs and throwing them together...

Then what would you consider it? If someone saves the animal life by feeding it and taking care of it an have the intention to breed it or not it is a rescue... It's not like I'm throwing him in to breed now... no.. It's gonna be a year probably.
-
I would consider feeding him, and getting him laid to be "saving" him! :)
-
The old owner didn't feed him for MONTHS. but the guy I picked him up from was the real savior but couldn't continue to feed him so I took him since I breed rats. Hopefully he gains some color when he starts to eat more.
-
Took some decent pictures! Lighting wasn't great... does the flash bother the snakes eyes? I could get better snaps if so on a black sheet.

I really think he'd look cool paired to a pinstripe... I like the dirty look.

Glad you picked him up, now get some rats in him!
-
I'm honestly loving the pattern on this guy, how broken it is.... I'm gonna try and breed him to something and see what he makes... I think he could make some cool patterns. I wish I saw him as a baby.
-
Usually I'd wait to feed him, but I'm feeding some of my females and he's going crazy in his tub! I'm gonna try to get a small 44gram F/T rat into him.
-
-
UPDATE
I've had this guy for about a month now, he's eaten twice for me now. He first refused a live rat so I tried F/T a week later, he's been taking them since. He's now at 564 grams.
He had a really odd defecation the first time. It wasn't the normal ball python defecation, it was semi-sold and there was a ball of something... idk. It was the WORST smell I've ever encountered though.. He defecated again yesterday and this time it was normal, he shed too! Snapped some photos of him :].

He's got a cute little face! Glad he's doing well for you. :gj:
-
I am with you on the cool pattern thing! He is pretty neat, good deal too! Congrats on getting him to eat for you :)
-
I also think he looks pretty good! Breed whatever you like. I feel a little bad for all those "low grade" pastel males out there not getting any action. All BPs, even the normals are special in their own way. If you are just doing some hobby breeding I don't see the harm!
Glad he is eating for you, even if its sporadic. :gj:
-
Any update on this boy? Has he started to eat again?
