A lot of people use these :

    http://www.reptilebasics.com/hide-boxes

I prefer them and I know a lot of people on here use them.

Yeah I have this site open too, I'm deciding between the three.

I only have 1 snake that I keep in a 20gal tank if that makes any difference at all.

I really like this one since I can open the top to see inside without bothering her. The only worry I have is that even on the large one the entrance hold looks pretty small to fit an adult through.

At this point I just want to buy 2 hides that will be big enough for an adult female BP. I find that the exo terra hold in heat/humidity pretty well, do the black box hides do as well?

I am currently using the Large version of the Exo-Terra cave for my juvi 0.0.1 BP, and he fits in it fine for the moment. However, that particular hide is designed very shallow and Riddle will probably outgrow it soon. It has a lot of room inside but the ceiling is so low; when I used it for my boa she would end up with it on top of her rather than inside of it.

I have no experience with the Extra-Large version of it but from the picture it looks like it has a little more depth.

Snakes are pretty good at squishing through holes, but the "Hagen Exo Terra" looks to be for a much smaller sized snake.

I don't use hides in my racks anymore, but in my PVC's I had some of the exo-terra hides.

Used the Larges for 600-700 or until they started to left the edges when they were inside.
XL's were the next step, had a 1800g is one with no problems.

RB PVC hides are nice too, all depends if you want more of a natural display look in your tank, tuib, rack or whatever you are using.

By PVC do you mean like pipes?

I don't really care about the "natural look" of my tank, I just want something that works well.

I agree with rebelrachel13 that the Hagen Exo Terra opening looks pretty small even on the large one. So I think at this point the choice is between the exo terra cave hide or the black box ones. Any pros vs cons for either of them?

Nope, the material polyvinyl chloride that the hides are made of. ;)

"Polyvinyl chloride, commonly abbreviated PVC, is the third-most widely-produced plastic, after polyethylene and polypropylene. PVC is widely used in construction because it is durable, cheap, and easily worked."

** that being said not sure if Reptile basics are PVC or another plastic material...

The last thing I need to know is what size hide would fit an adult female BP between either the Exo Terra or the black hide box.

Dont get the exo terra. They are too over priced and I dont like em. I would go with the black hide box's I posted before. As for size if you read the description of the hides the medium size on says "Ball pythons up to 700g" and the large says "average size adult Ball pythons". So which ever one fits your snake.

Good luck, Dont for get to buy 2 for each snake that needs hides!

Definately use these, they are the best, most secure. As well as cost effective and easy to clean. Read description to determine what size you need.

Love to give you my Exo-Terra one- my snake has NO interest in it. :)
Im ordering the reptile basics myself.

As for the Hagen Exo Terra- I would not doing something that isn't "opened" on the bottom, we had a hide that was like a mini fish bowl in our tank, with moss in it, and its a pain to clean. Of course, that seem to be the place she would leave her little "urates" :(

Good luck finding one that works!

So I ordered 2 of the reptile basic black box hides and they are waiting for me on my doorstep when I get home, I will hope that she likes them.

My biggest rush for getting a new hide is for the past few weeks I've noticed she has been wearing her current hide as a hat, big time. Ever since I noticed that she has stopped eating f/t rats, she did take a live one no problem. She has always liked larger hides so my hope is this larger hide will appease her and she will start taking f/t again. Seems very unlikely that it's related but I can hope :rolleye2:

I was talking about using the reptile basic hides, not Exo terra.

I have one of their large caves and do not use it anymore. I used it in my glass tank and removed it during the mite cleansing and didn't put it back. I now have the reptile basics hides and just upgraded to the medium. I like these a lot better because they are a lot easier to clean. My bp stayed in the exo terra a lot and had to remove her to clean it out when she did her business in it. The other plus to reptile basics is you can get a bigger size when they outgrow the smaller one. Once you outgrow the exoterra, you are out of luck. My 2 cents.
