Logging your snake's weight, meals, etc.
So what does everyone use to log their snakes weight, meals, poops, etc? Do you use plain pencil and paper, or something more complex?
And finally, is there an app for that?

Re: Logging your snake's weight, meals, etc.
I use 4x6 note cards, which I then transfer to an Excel spreadsheet whenever one fills up (updating all records when one card fills up, so I don't have as many to enter at one time).

I made print out calendars and have them beside my tanks and write down what happens on that date. Pretty much as simple as that.

I use iHerp and I also keep a clipboard with generic log papers I printed from a website somewhere for when we don't feel like getting on the computer.

Re: Logging your snake's weight, meals, etc.
I also use iherp, a notebook, and Vyper software to keep track of everything. I am a bit anal when it comes to keeping records. I know keeping this many records may seem a bit over the top, but I like to be prepared.

I use a simple excel sheet with 3 categories:
Eat - Date and prey weight/type
Shed - the date they go pink and the day they shed - how many pieces? - eyes clear?
Other - Weights, full cleanings, bathroom notes

Exactly what he does.

4 x 6 index cards kept under each snakes tub.

Iherp. Just got into breeding back in feb. and it has helped out alot. Plus its a good place to upload pics and see others.

I personally use index cards - basic info name, species, common name, age, gender along the top.
Then track feeding, whether it was accepted or not, bowel movements, when the cage was cleaned, shed cycles, and breeding info.
I then transfer that over to iherp about once a month or so.
Works for me!

I use iHerp and a database program called FileMaker Pro

I use iHerp and my Kindle Fire that way I can track as I'm feeding/weighing. Anything else, I just add into their record when I get on the computer.

I'll check out iHerp. Sounds popular. I wished it had a companion iphone app tho. I'm checking out several pet log (diary) iphone apps.
Neo PetCare
RSPCA
PetBook
Caniner
A couple of them are very fruity tho, like PetBook. So far Caniner is my favorite but it can only track up to 8 pets. (It doesn't have to be a dog).
When I kept planted freshwater fish tanks, I kept meticulous notes, but I'm finding it's more important to do it with snakes... Once a planted tank is established, you can pretty much ignore it (except for supplementing) live and learn.

iHerp does have a companion mobile option but it has less options than the full version. They are linked, however so it makes it easy if you don't have time to log onto the computer every time.

Excel. Saved each snake to my desktop and just update and save. Took less than 5 minutes to create all and less than 1 min to update.

I use a combination of a composition notebook where I log my daily interactions (feedings, weights, breeding, etc) and then take that daily log and upload the information to iHerp on a monthly basis just to have an electronic copy should something ever happen to my paper copy. I'm also in the process of creating records binders that will have a file for each snake.

College ruled composition notebook. Journal style with daily entries.

I bought a refurbished laptop for like $90 and keep excel spread sheets on every snake. the laptop stays on the cart i use to carry my thaw bucket and rodents on. I also use a grease pencil on the tub its self for the last known feeding/shed/pooh etc. spread sheets are nice because i can cross refference different things and watch for trends in eating and sheds and such. very useful info for breeding. as for an app... idk but i would down load it. lol

I'm pretty bad about record keeping, writing feeding/sheds/bowel movements on pieces of paper and then losing them. Keeping a notebook and transferring over to iHerp is sounding pretty good though, and it'll keep me active on there (I have a tendency to forget I have an account)

I just use a calander and fill in the weight of the rat he ate that day, along with urates and shed info. I weigh my snake after he poops with out my scale I would not even notice his growth he still looks same size to me but has put a lot of weight

iHerp!! It's wonderful! ;)

I have an Iherp, but I don't really use it.
I keep all my records on Excel.
