Before they are dinner
They play Polly pockets in the pony corral!! I don't know how she does it. My daughter will play with the rats that are dinner for the snakes, then with out batting an eye, drop them in for one of our bps. Cracks me up. They are like little toys, then bloop, dinner. :D

Awww, seriously that's sad, LOL. Only because I used to have 3 rats as pets..
They're so cute and fluffy!

Funny part is, we have a pet rat too.

Lol, nice! That's the one reason why I don't want to feed live when I get my baby BP... I don't want to get attached to the food, LOL.

How old is she?
I think it is pretty cool how she can enjoy how cute and intelligent they are, but at the same time she realizes they are still your snakes next meals!

Re: Before they are dinner
What a hoot! Reminds me of when my youngest sister was about 3-4 and we had a family goose cleaning business (most were dead already). Someone brought in a crate of live white ducks they wanted cleaned and the only kicker was we had to kill them first. She would cuddle the ducks, hug them, pet them and when she thought they were suffiently loved she would hand them over and say "Ok now you can kill them"....it was sad and funny all in the same breath. Glad you have a sense of humor.

She is 8, when we got into snakes we had a conversation with her about how and what, the snakes needed to eat. She completely understands.

Coolest. Kid. EVAH. :sweeet:

That's a hoot and a half and good for her for having that understanding that meals don't arrive preprocessed in nature. She sounds like a super cool kid and a future advocate for the hobby...or maybe a representative for mouse and rat rights, lol! Think she could talk to my wife and explain how that all works? Mine is great for petting the "tubs of cuteness" as she calls them but come feeding day... :D

Lol, that is cool. My niece and nephew still get a little sad come feeding day, but they love to watch the snakes eat.

She will definately be an advocate for the hobby! She is the one that talked me into snakes. When she was about 6, lol. I will have her call your wife later.........:D

That's hilarious, but awesome at the same time. Definitely should be proud of her, I hope she keeps up the hobby :)

Never underestimate the importance of giving your snakes a well socialized feeder.
Rumor has it that well socialized rats taste better :D
Kudos to your daughter for making those rats feel more at ease as they transit the Green Mile...

My 4 y/o son and daughter who's 3, are exactly like that. They name them play with them, then off to feed the snakes!:) I did get a little resistence when one of the rats first had a litter. The kids watched the whole process from birth to weaned, so there was a little more attachment, but they are very smart and understand the whole circle of life idea. I feel it's very beneficial for my kids to learn about, understand, and appreciate nature. My son ecspecially will lead the next generation of herpers into the future!:D:gj:
