I am not sure there is a way to tell on a WT, especially when it is not next to another one for comparison. The idea that you can read het Hypo is pretty contested.

Lineage, lineage, lineage. For hets you have to trust who you are buying from.

Is she being sold as a 100% Het ghost or Possible-Het ghost?
There really is no het markers for hypo, sometimes in the same clutch people say the babies may look lighter but any normal can be lighter or darker than another so that's not entirely reliable.
If your going around looking at normals..labeled as normals and then asking people are they het for something....I'm 99% sure they will just be normals.
Depends on your trust in the seller who you potentially get your hets from.

No way to tell really that I know of. Did you ask the owner where he/she got the snake from? Ask a lot of questions when buying hets and look for verification...if anything makes you flinch, don't buy the snake.

She was bought by the owner at last years Canadian Reptile Breeders Expo in toronto as a 100% Het orange ghost. The person can't remember the vendor she got her from tho. She is guna try and find the business card. Also there were no papers guaranteeing the genetics. I'm just trying to make sure I'm not gettin screwed out of what I want by asking the experts (you guys!). Thanks for the replies.

She looks EXACTLY like a het ghost, as does every other normal ball python... ;)
As others have said, there's no definite way to tell, unless you have proof, or otherwise know, that it is from a Ghost clutch.

Good luck on finding the paperwork.

Well I think i'm getting her on wednesday and the plan is to breed her to my pastel het red 100% het Orange ghost (the one in my avitar pic) to make a Ghost of some kind. I hope she makes a Female het red ghost because I want to have a red Axanthic Orange Ghost. ANyways thats the plan, hope it works!

Orange ghost does leak through in some hets; my breeder female het OG is an example of this. She is very light, has hints of orange and shows more grey than brown-she looks better than some adult ghosts that I have seen. Her male het partner (also proven breeder) is very dark and you would never guess that he is carrying a ghost gene. The bottom line is that you can pick out some of the hets but certainly not all of them and appearance is no guarantee.

Depending on the asking price and weight it might be worth the risk?
Just remember that 2 hets might not make a visual on the first or second tries but can still be het.;)

Ya I know its a 25% chance. She's 920g so I'm hoping by next winter I can get her up to weight. I'm pairing her with a pastel het red axanthic 100% het orange ghost male so whatever comes out of that clutch should be cool! Thanks for the opinions dudes.

I am not saying this isn't true, but I will say that if it is, Orange Ghost cannot be a recessive trait. Recessive by definition means that it will not show up in its het form. Codom traits show up because they are codominant. The homozygous form is the super form (super-pastel etc.)

If your snake is not wild-type I have to assume it's an orange ghost, not a het orange ghost.

If I'm wrong someone please educate me because I would love to learn something new. The writing on the subject doesn't leave much breathing room though.

Some Hets will have a "marker" IF you know what to look for.;)

While some people say that some hets have markers, it isn't 100% true all the time. Therefor they're still recessive. I was simply inquiring if anyone has heard about markers for het ghosts as I have no experience with ghosts.

There is a video on youtube here:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUGDB...feature=relmfu
Kevin from NERD talkes about the het pied mixed with other morphs and how he can see differences in the babies that are het pied.

    Re: Het Ghost help!?!?
Ball pythons don't seem to read the books where we made up the cut and dry line between recessive and co-dominant (or incomplete dominant some say). In my experience both pied and hypo are "recessive with co-dominant tendencies". I've proven 3 possible het pieds (two of them only 25%) and two possible het hypos all picked on pretty clear markers. I'm not saying its 100% but it can be very useful when picking from a clutch of possible hets. I'll try to get a picture of my het hypo female in glow today as she is always light but in pre-lay glow she looks like a ghost. Some het hypo's even shed clear like homozygous hypos.

She's past the most extreme stage of building glow but you can get the idea that this particular het ghost has some ghost like qualities.

That's a might nice het u have there. I picked her up the other day and she has way more flames and blushing than any of my normals. May not mean anything but she's cool none the less. Her head is like way faded towards the back too. When I get my light tent setup I will post better pics.
