I keep mine (I have a filing cabinet with a file for each of my snakes)

Once they are big enough I want to send some sheds over to Justin at JKR gear

Yeah, I really want one of the iPhone cases with either a shed from my spider or from my Dumeril's Boa... But they are still to small.

Ive never kept one lol. What do you do with them?
I usually just unravel the whole thing to see how complete of a shed it was and try and find the eyecaps.

I always just roll them out, measure them and store them away. I didn't know there was so much you can make from them! Check out that link above.

I keep a few of my perfect sheds, but I have 15 snakes so I can't keep them all. :snake:

More than likely a chemical soak that darkens the pigment in the skin.

only time i save any sheds is right before breeding season, ziplock them, than put them in a day or 2 before i pair up to get the males frisky if they are reluctant. (obviously another males shed not his own). after that trash'em all

I impulsively collect any of the nicer sheds (cleaner, complete, not ripped up or covered in poo  ). Now that JKR gear exists I have a valid excuse for it, was simply because I liked them before. One of my favorite things is keeping hatchling sheds and looking at the size difference as they get older

the best thing with Justin is that he proceeds from the bio melds goes to support sheds for shelters, it helps homeless people, it goes to USARK. I wish they would make stuff for other devices like for an ipad would be sweet. But I printed up his flyer and posted at a few pet stores to get people to bring in there sheds including the stores animal sheds. He doesn't just do snakes, so if you have a reptile that sheds in one complete shed they can use those too. but I made a deal that if the pet store will collect them I will send them in to him I got like 15 but I can fit a lot more in a small flat rate box.

I agree, it is an all around great thing Justin & JKR Gear is doing. We need to help spread the word.

I used to save any good ones and send them to teachers I know for them to use in classrooms to oooh and ahhh the kids with for biology classes and such. Any of my non-snake keeping friends that wanted one took one too.

I'm going to start saving the ones now for the project! That's pretty cool and thanks to crepers86 for pointing out the other reptiles. My tegu doesn't shed whole, so I'll ask Justin if he can use large pieces.

I am starting to save them to send to Justin. I plan on buying a new set of golf clubs after the summer so I will probably check out what those golf grips look like. seems pretty cool!

I have kept a few, just because kids want to see the sheds when they come over, or they want to take one home.

I keep one from each until they shed again, then I measure the difference and throw the old one out.

I used to take a length off the sheds, check eye caps then toss em, but if saving them and mailing them off can benefit USARK, then that's the new plan.

I know there's a lady over here who makes snake shed keyrings and the money goes towards a rescue/charity I think? Also overheard someone talking about snake shed tea :)

    Reluctant...
