type of bedding?
i was using aspen for my other snake and i found that it does not hold humidity at all. especially here in colorado where it is not very humid! i now have prince on repti-bark which is what he was on before. but i'm finding that as far as i have had it, it does not hold humidity as well as i would like. i was wondering what substrate is the best? Repti-bark, jungle mix, eco earth? oh prince is a ball python (:

Eco-Earth and Cypress is the best for humidity
of the 2 I greatly prefer Eco-Earth

Re: type of bedding?
Cypress seems to hold humidity well and it is cheap. But be careful when purchasing and make sure you don't buy cypress blend. The blends can contain cedar and other toxic woods.

i've heard that cypress can kill pythons? maybe it was a rumor?

Cedar can cypress is fine (probably just got the 2 mixed up)
NEVER use cedar or anything that you think might have cedar in it

Cypress blends can because they can contain cedar, and like Aaron said cedar will kill a snake.

I personally don't use cypress, but anything sold at a pet store should be fine. the issue comes when people try buying it in bulk at a place like home depot. But if you only have a few cages buying the pet store stuff (which costs more) is the best way to go and still will be affordable.
"Zoo-Med", and "All Living Things" seem to have decent quality substrates

Eco earth is great stuff. Never had a problem with humidity/ shedding using it!

Brand of cypress that is good is timberline, you can get it at lowes ad make sure you get the yellow bag. There are some larger pieces you will want to pick out though

Yes, I know many people who use cypress from pet stores. My local reptile shop has somewhere around 70 tubs that have cypress in them. I currently own 2 snakes that were in that rack and they are perfectly healthy

I use Coconut Husk bought in bricks, it's the only thing that I haven't had an allergic reaction to and it holds humidity great for me. I have to buy two for my 55gal, but if you have a smaller tank you can easily get away with one.

Re: type of bedding?
Eco earth works great for humidity. You can always add water to make it more moist, at shed time or as needed.
