    Lost bp!!
Unlike most people who lose their bps I've literally searched like EVERYWHERE because the apartment/duplex is pretty much empty. There's 3 bedrooms 2 have no furniture. A sparsely filled closet no drawers. Living room w/ a couple side tables a couch and a fish tank. 2 bathrooms and a laundry room. Blame my brother (or thank him) for his empty place. I'm visiting him for spring break and am sleeping on the floor in one of the bedrooms. I had my bp out while I was reading some blogs and I guess I got too caught up and *forgot* about him. I think I left him 30 min, an hour tops. I usually do let him just roam about the empty room for a while for exercise and sometimes hes able to go to the hall or downstairs to the living room but has never made it too the kitchen or laundry room. I know it's irresponsible to let him go but hey I can't let him out really at my place and he's always easy to spot cuz the place is empty. Well last night while blog reading he ran (slithered) off and I CAN'T FIND HIM ANYWHERE. I've looked in every nook and cranny and left a mouse out on a plate last night. He's only 3ft long. The only places he could possibly be are outside (I highly doubt it since I've been paranoid about anyone leaving the door open and there's no crack underneath (yay weather stripping). Anyways, outside, behind the heater thing in laundry room idk I can't see EVERYWHERE under it because some bricks hold it up and are in the way, and inside the fridge like up the back or something? Is that even possible? Should I tip it and try and see? Wait and see if he appears? I only have 6 days before I have to leave:(. I think I've forever learned my lesson but do you guys have any advice or tips? Sorry for like the essay but Im super worried and sad about my snake, he's the only pet I can have and I'm really attatched like most owners :(

try checking the dryer vent and around the dryer. also check around all the appliances. if theres hardwood floors in the apt then sprinkle flour on them overnite and in the morning see if you see any snake tracks anywhere.

Goodluck finding him. I would also but a heat source in the room and wait.

I really hope you find him :( Somewhere warm and dark is probably likely... I've got an electric blanket on my bed and I'm forever forgetting to turn it off. Pretzel seems to wander off up the bed, to the gap behind the headboard, curl up and nod off in the dark warm space... I'm sure he'll he alright :) Bound to come out sometime!

I haven't lost a snake yet and can't personally account for the effectiveness of this but it seems like it would work

Thanks for the good wishes/ideas guys. I still haven't found him. The bottle idea looks really effective except I don't know which room he is in. I really think (or hope) that's he in the fridge. I'm afraid to move it and look cuz I don't wanna smash or squish him or anything. :/

If you're worried about him in the fridge, maybe you can empty it and carefully tip it straight forward - door down. As long as you check to see that he's not under the front lip before you do that I can't see you squishing him at all.

this was also posted on the link above but u may not have seen it since its on the 2nd page.
This is how i catch mine. Mine gets out all the time. But I allow it to , sometimes. Don't go out and buy this stuff just improvise with what you have handy.

Take F/T or live (bait) whatever yours eats, Put it in a aquarium with screen lid on it so the smell of the rat can get out. Then just get some plastic cups and put some coins in them and place them on top of the tank and or around it. Trust me it will Knock one of them over and wake you up.
You can variate the method to suit your needs.
You can also put cups of coins around the walls of the room since this is usually where they like to travel. Much like the plastic bags Ash mentioned, I just find that a cup of coins hitting the floor will pretty much wake the dead. You can also try using a fan to blow on the mouse so it will get the smell of the mouse throughout the house. Try setting the cups precariously at a tilt to where they are just about to fall over.
To even go simpler you could just put your bait mouse on a plate and place it on top of a cup of coins.

with a house that empty I would also use the flour method as mentioned above.
    PM me if you like.

    Good luck

i fell asleep with a snake out once, but luckily for me he curled up right near me in the curl of a chair cover. And that room was FULL of crap. it would have been a disaster.

to robin: I have never had another escape, and i would never let them escape repeatedly. That's so irresponsible i don't have words for it. You're supposed to protect your pets and take care of them the best you can, not do things like let them wander around on purpose. They are captives, you are supposed to take care of them. doesn't even sound like you really care. what you think it's a little joy ride for the snake to go out exploring? don't think he can get hurt, or accidentally get stepped on, or go down a drain, or get behind something and get stuck. But you just let them escape and think it's no big deal *rolls eyes*

anyway, back to the OP. THe snake is probably in an appliance. The best thing you can do is to unscrew the screws on the dryer or washer and lift off the top or the front panel. We just did this the other day to our dryer to clean it out. There is a LOT of space around in there for a snake to hide and access. think of the last place you think the snake would go and that is probably where it's hiding *lol*

I keep my snake in a 3 tiered encloser 5feet tall by 1 1/2 foot square. Its more than its required from what i have read.

You asked so here it goes..

Because it's in my bed room. It can not get under the door (Its to big) Its about 4 feet long, enough said.
I have an automatic door closer on the room. It shuts the door automatically behind me. It can never escape this room.
Now there are exceptions to its freedom. I keep live rats 4-6 a month. I do not allow it to be free when i have live rats in the room. After my snake has eaten all the rats, I turn him loose in the room (free to go where ever it wants).
I wait 2-3 weeks before buying any more rats.
There is method to my madness...

You were the one that started this by making your comments about letting your BP "escape" and roam your room freely! So actually you were the one that took the thread off track. And, now that other keepers are questioning your VERY QUESTIONABLE choices with the care of your animal you want to get all butt hurt and angry and tell them to get back on track!?

I lost mine for a while yesterday(fell asleep with her out, not one of my best moves). I spent all morning looking for her before going to work and wound up coming home on my lunch break to try and find her.

After tearing apart the entire apartment(including refridgerator and oven) I found that she had climbed up on top of a tub(about 3 feet tall) and climbd up on top of two smaller containers before going inside a box on top that was open. In total, she was about 4 feet off above the floor.

My point in this story is don't underestimate their ability to climb. They can get a lot higher than you would initially imagine.

OK, you let the snake roam free. I don't agree with your choice, but am not going to go on the attack. Anyway, lets end this here. It's spamming the thread and taking away from those trying to help the OP.

Back on topic, I've never found a missing snake more than 10 feet from its cage. I also suggest using tin foil if you have a carpet floor. It does the same thing as flour on carpet, and is easier to clean up. Just lay long sheets of it out (Shiny side down), and watch for snake trail shaped crinkles in the foil. I have a friend who has used this method a few times, and it always worked for him.

Wow guys o.o no comment on the argument- but also still no luck yet. Later on tonight I'm going to check out the fridge and washer when my brother gets off work because I can't move them myself. Thanks for the support, I'll update tomorrow on whether or not he was hiding in the appliances. I do find it odd though that if he is in one that he has stayed there for like 3 days. I know bps are lazy but I thought mine was more active.

I understand things got out of hand, but lets try and focus on what this thread is about yeah? There's a lost ball python and his owner is worried and looking for a bit of advice...not arguments and nasty comments.

As a general rule, once a BP finds a place to hide, they won't come out until prompted by some stimuli, be that hunger, the need to thermoregulate, or some other stressor. Just because they're loose and have your whole house to roam around in, doesn't mean they will. That's one of several factors that can make re-finding them so hard.
