What do you collect???
When i was younger i used to collect coins but that bored me too fast so then i got into collecting football cards. Ive been collecting them since like 2nd or 3rd grade. I had tens of thousands of cards at one point. Ive got a much smaller collection now of jersey/numbered/auto cards. Besides cards i collect sports autographs and memorbilia too. 99% of my collection is football but i have a little bit of hockey, bruins stuff, mixed in.
Other stuff that interests me are old signs and license plates and beer/soda bottles and cans. But i dont collect them, i just think theyre cool. I see alot of that stuff on the show American Pickers on History Channel which i love :)
Soooo besides snakes or herps (which is obvious if youre on this site already lol), what do you all collect???
-
When I was a kid, it used to be pokemon cards. haha...
Now I collect hats and key chains from different places.
Cool thread!
-
nicknacks.. Any little cheesy thing I can get my hands on.. I love it. I am seriously running out of shelf space though.

Re: What do you collect???
I collect beer bottles, beer glasses, and beer coasters that I have picked up along the way traveling...the traveling has slowed down a bit, so the collecting has as well, but looking to pick it up again soon.
-
Re: What do you collect???
You mean there are things to collect besides bps?? :O
For me, cookbooks.
-
Shot glasses, although I haven't bought any new ones in a few years with them all being packed in a box from my move almost 5 years ago. I went through a phase of collecting shot glasses of unusual shapes, sizes and designs.
Other than that, beer bottle caps. I got an idea in my mind to do a wall mosaic using beer bottle tops, so I started collecting them a few years ago. I decided to spend 5 years or so collecting as many as I can and from different brands, different colored tops and different designs. Once I figure out what I have, the fun will really begin... Well, not that emptying all the bottles hasn't been fun... lol

That's pretty much my idea with my beer coasters...a huge, framed collage of beer coasters from around the world for my "man" room.
And yes, consuming mass quantities of beer is by far the greatest benefit of collecting beer related items.
-
I was think about starting to collect energy drink cans bc i think alot of their designs are cool...
Ink: my dad did alot of travelling for work when he was younger and he always bought 2 shot glasses from every Hard Rock Cafe from every city he went to. He has a whole display case full of them. I thought about collect beer bottle caps too when i was younger but most of my family only drinks Becks lol
-
I collect guns, hardbound books and Knives. when I was young I collected things like baseball cards and foreign coins.
-
I collect old school analogue synthesizer gear (99% Moog) as well as old computer hardware (I've got many pieces of circuitry, but my favorite is an old Apple IIe that still works)
-

-
I collected those little "Homies" figures :D... I've got a ton of 'em
-
Foodogs, Buddha figures, art print books and road/warning signs.
-
I used to collect knives but ive lost most of them over the years, I went from almost 300 to less than a dozen lol. Im really into Zippo's too but I havent started buying any yet cause im still looking into them.
Theres all of the other little things also like arrow heads, ammo, any kind of medieval or stone age type of weaponry or armor.

I'll see if I have any on my hard drive... unfortunately I'm at college and my beloved gear doesn't fit in my apartment so it's 120 miles away at my parents house (My main piece of gear is a Moog modular 55)
This isn't mine, but it's the same model:

While not "old" I have a Minimoog Voyager Select series (direct decedent from the MiniMoog Model D and still has a 100% analogue signal path)

Windstone statues, decorated eggs, and falconry hoods.

Re: What do you collect???
I used to collect all kinds of things when I was a kid (rocks, stamps, notebooks...) but then I came to realize that I am an insufferable pack rat, so I made myself stop. No more collecting here.
-
I collect interesting clovers. I have tons of four and five leaves, one six and some other mutated threes.
-
I collect model horses, and also repaint them as commission pieces for people in the hobby.
Here's my website that shows my paintwork on them (each horse in the "galleries" started off as a solid white sculpture piece to which I airbrushed and hand painted): http://www.freewebs.com/elkhornstablesstudios/
Some pieces in my personal collection that I painted for myself...

One I need to paint (some of you would probably poop brinks if you know how much he cost me lol!):

My girlfriend collects dragons as well. She currently has 75+ and that's just what she brought to our college apartment.... they are everywhere lol

Firearms, knives.. and that's really it. Other than my snakes, I don't really collect things unless they serve a purpose.

Wow those horses are amazing Daybreaker! That takes some talent.
My stepdad collects swords/knives so theres always a BUDK catalogue lying around. I think knives are pretty cool but see them more as practical rather than collectable. He also loves dragons and has a few figurines.
-
Oh I forgot to mention my super awesome comic book collection and my warhammer fantasy high elf army collection >,< the sweet horses above reminded me of it and it also let me know how poorly painted mine are :O( lol. those really are awesome daybreaker! that paint is sweet and I love the halos!

Thats awesome, I would love to see pictures of all of those

Books, arrowheads, guns, and a few coins. Also some antique hand tools, primarily woodworking stuff, that I still use. I make waaaaaaay more sawdust than completed projects but it keeps me occupied, lol!
And Daybreaker, those horses are outstanding! I had horses growing up and my last one was a palomino quarter horse gelding...seeing those brings back some fond memories, thanks!

I collected hess trucks too and had from 1993-2002 but my stepmom thought they were toys so she let my step brother play with them and pretty much destroy them :(
I had some warhammer models too but never got the time to paint all of them. I liked dwarves and orcs.

Re: What do you collect???
I collected sets of a game called Heroclix for about 2-3 years. Then they changed how the game worked so I quit playing and quit collecting. I have several hundred dollars worth of them in a closet.
Now I just collect snakes. :)

Was that the one with all the hexagonal pieces? With figures sorta like D&D?
If so me and my brother had quite a bit of them and liked the game too.

The pieces have round bases and were played on a square grid map at the time I played. Each piece had a set of stats. Each time the piece took damage, you turned a dial or "licked" it and the stats changed. Damage it enough times and the piece is destroyed and removed from play.
It's still around - http://www.heroclix.com/
They started throwing cards into the game like it was Yugi-oh or something. Then they made the first generation set unplayable.
I think I have 5 or 6 full sets including LE pieces and convention only items. My most prized was a convention only giant Galactus piece that came with a Silver Surfer piece. Paid $100 for it at Dragoncon around 2003 or so. Goes for $400 or so on Ebay.
-
Let's see, Dragons and Cookbooks have already been covered - I think I also collect Munchkin games... mostly because no one ever wants to play, but I can't resist collecting them all! :D
Waaaaay back in college I used to work at a candle boutique, but we also had a lot of collectibles. I bought several larger dragons that were finished in gold at a big discount and they are still my prized pieces. They are beautiful, but I think the company has gone out of business now...
-
I collect pretty much all things Star Wars.

If I had the money, I would too. I'm a huge fangirl with a small SW collection I hope to expand someday with a specialized room(s). Maybe even a house.
(have you seen the Korean Star Wars themed house. It's so amazing)

I didn't see that. I have a subscription to Star Wars Insider Magazine and there was a story about a dude that made a bunch of massive scene dioramas from diffferent movies using legos. They looked really awesome.
I helped make Lucas a lot of money. I bought the VHS when it came out, the DVDs when they came out, and the BluRays when they came out. Crap I'm such a sucker. I'm such a nerd too, I have a lightsaber hilt that I display but not too much of a nerd that I dress up in Star Wars costumes...:D I just collect the stuff.
