    What's in a name?
:) (Newish to the whole forum thing, if this thread needs moving please do move it xD)

Sooo, I only have the one Ball Python and she's called Pretzel. When I first got her, she was tiny and cute and people had different reactions. I had no idea what to call her, and hadn't had her probed so actually had no idea if she was male or female. I called her Scream to start off with - mainly because people were always like "AAAAH!" of "EEEEK!" when I told them I got her...

Then it didn't seem right. Her name that is. Soooo she was a bit aggressive for a while, not sure why... her name changed to Nightmare.

AAAAND it still wasn't right

Then one day, sat in front of a particularly fishy Disney film with her curled up in my hand, she wound round and got comfortable, and there was my Pretzel

So how did you come up with names for all your lovely little friends? :)

Here's my babygirl, just being herself :D (Excuse the HUGE writing across the photo, I'm currently using said photo as my FB cover photo!)

Most of mine are references to something:

    Zed: character in a book

    Q. : Star Trek Reference

Shagrath: Dimmu Borgir reference ( \m/ Symphonic Black Metal Band from Norway \m/ )

Nergal: Behemoth reference ( \m/ Polish Blackened death Metal Band \m/ )

My last 2 are Greek Mythology references

    Zeus & Hestia

Ozzy the Bumblebee got his name because he's worth a lot of money and kinda "spayshul"...if ya know what I mean.

    :)

    Kelly means "Bright"
    Ivy's dad was an Ivory
Agnes and Leah are from old Donnie Iris songs
Mosby is from John S Mosby
    Leon, because he's a Leo
Norma because "Norm" was written on her snake bag
    Iggy Python for Iggy Pop
    Alice for Alice Cooper
    Spider for a rock song
Brom the Boa after a favorite artist
[but we usually call him "Bob"]
Dixie Lee Dumeril because it sounded southern, to me.

I honestly don't name every single one.. If I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it or not, I don't always name them. I do name pets though, and I try to come up with fitting names but sometimes they're just names I like at the time..

Thunder is my 9 year old ball. I named her that because when I got her I'd gotten 2 CH babies. A 1.1 pair. The male always had an intense and fast feeding response but the female was very slow to feed. Still is. So they became Thunder & Lightning.

I named my blue eyed Leucistic Sinatra because, well, it's ol blue eyes himself!

I had a Butter that had named Marge for margarine..

My SD Retic is Cleopatra or Cleo for short. No reason. Just liked the name.

My BCC Boa is Moya because I'm a Farscape fan and Moya's awesome. When I get a litter from her in the future I plan to keep a male and name him Talon ;)

I've got an absurdly eclectic array of music on my iPod but nothing freaks people out at a stoplight like a chick on a Harley with *that* cranking.

    Total cognitive dissonance.

So, my baby's name is Kiva.
    http://i716.photobucket.com/albums/w...-32-44_165.jpg

    She is my first snake.
I did about 2 years of research preparing for her and brought her home on 2/18/2012 :P

As the day of the expo (where I went to find her) was coming closer, I tried to think of names I would give to my new friend. I had a good list in my head when I went to the expo.

She was the first animal that really caught my eye, but I still looked around a little bit. Didn't really see too much else that I liked within my budget so I went back and scooped her up, went across the expo for feeders, and then started home.

While we were in the car I started going through the names again. The one that came to my mind that I already thought of was Kiba, but I didn't want to be cheesy and name her after an anime character. The first new name that came to my head was Kiva. And so she is called, though sometimes just Ki (pronounced key). And I think it suits her. What do you think?

I did better than that.. A few years before he died I saw them in Chicago. Got to hang with Pete in the bar next to the venue and they all signed my ticket and Pete signed my Steel Di** CD (He signed his appropriate "part" in the booklet haha!) And the CD itself. ;)

I named my first normal Indy bc it was the day Indiana Jones 4 came out. I always liked those movies and am a Harrison Ford fan.
And i named my cinny Chumlee bc of the show Pawn Stars. He eats alot so i figured Chumlee was a fitting name lol

I name my snakes in names that I just like or like the sound of.

Though Calcifer my King was named after the fire demon character in Howl's Moving Castle (I love anything Studio Ghibli, they can do no wrong)

Capona was a play on Al Capone

Everyone elses names were just from hearing them around and I liked them :)

    Oh, fer gad's sake.

Everybody and their dog have either met Pete or Alice Cooper, hung out with them wherever they found them lurking about but I can't get near them!

    WTH!?!

    LOL

    Oh well.
At the last concert I was in the front row and Alice messed with me a lot and at the end of the show, flung his cane right into me.
[which is why I always tell people "Alice Cooper hit me with a stick"]...

That was the high point of my pitiful little life...:-P

I named my normal "Mosamba".....which took me a while to come up with. Mosamba is African "to go away." I chose that name because of the origins of Ball Pythons and the fact that this one loves to "go away" into a hide 90% of the time! I haven't come up with a name for my female Pewter yet.

I named my spider male Maguire, since Toby Maguire played Spiderman. My female albino is Peaches, the male Boots ( from Dora ) Boots the monkey likes bananas, bananas are yellow, so.........yea that was my daughters doing.
I tend to name my "pairs" with "couples" names. My yellowbelly pair is Popeye and Olive Oyl, then there's Converse and Adidas, Suzuki and Kawasaki, Roxy and Vans. Then all my others just have random names that I like, History ( spider female ) Gemini ( pin female ) Merlin ( lesser male ) Grace, Ivy, Marleen, Goldie, Surita ( some normal girls ). Oh, my butter female is Parkay :)

Male Het clown "Charlie" - I just like the name, inspired from the movie 'All dogs go to Heaven"

Male Blackback Dinker "swirly" - Named so because one of his alien heads is a swirl mark.http://ball-pythons.net/gallery/file...2/7/swirly.jpg

Female Burgundy Dinker "Carmine" - I had literally looked up color codes and was looking for a color that matched her looks that also sounded like a name. It had nothing to do with Gears of War lol.

Female Spider "Cartwheel" - She was such a bad wobbler as a hatchling, I thought that if she had arms and legs she would be doing cartwheels, but she has since grown out of most of that :P

Female Enchi 'Cookie' - Not sure if I was hungry at the time, but her color kind of reminded me of a cookie, like oatmeal.

Female Normals 'Mona & lisa' - Bought them from the same person but I can honestly say they are the ones who got random names, but they had to be linked names of some sort.

Male Blue Eyed Lucy het ghost 'Orochimaru' - If your a watcher of naruto you'd understand. Was basically a villan who turned out to be a blue eyed white snake demon :P

Male Dinker "Kichiro Yukiko" - Named so cause he has a perfect 3 leafed clover in his pattern(even tho its upside down), I couldn't find the japanese word for clover so i used words that meant luck.http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i1...9/SD532022.jpg

Super Dwarf Retic "Chezza" -If you've ever watched the anime 'Wolf's Rain' you'd know who I'm refering to. I named her that from her slight rarity as not many people work with True SD retics similar to Chezz'a rarity in the anime.

Male Albino Green Burmese "Brolly" I don't know who hasn't seen Dragonball Z but thats my inspiration for his name. He's just a baby now and he's a little sweetheart, but hes going to get huge, I figure long as I don't name any of my other snakes 'Kakarot' He should stay my gentle giant for all his life lol ;)

Last but not least is a Female Bumblebee that I haven't gotten my inspiration for yet.Shes my only 'No Namer' right now, but I've only had her for a month so still plenty of time.

Lol I did not know that. I learn something new everyday! Now her name has some meaning behind it. To me, it was her telling me what her name was.
    Thanks for the info tidbit

That is why they make smart phones, Slim...so you don't miss anything....LOL

A woman I know has an Ibizan Hound named Medea.
She had a litter of puppies....and we all waited nervously until they grew up enough to be weaned....:D
[thankfully, the sire wasn't named Saturn or they'd have been doomed and consumed for sure]

So, do you call Jupiter "Jove" for short?
