National Pet Pharmacy - $4.95 Shipping Glitch Fixed

I just checked the National Pet Pharmacy website for the Native Earth rodent block (5 pack) and the shipping came up $59.45. :O

Either they noticed internally that there was an issue or some bonehead called customer service because...whatever! :mad:

This changes everything for me. With shipping a 50lb bag would cost $36. :rolleye2:

I'm going to complain and see if they change it back. It was nice while it lasted. :(

I found a work around. Choose auto ship and set the frequency to whatever you need. The shipping then becomes zero. That's the only way I would be able to continue buying it.

I guess they used the cheap shipping to try to hook people into buying from them with the auto ship. I'll have to see about using them. I need rat bedding and food but I'm not paying the shipping. Easier to get it locally.

If I can figure out when I'll need food and bedding I'll probably set up the auto-shipping too.

Dang them.

What a joke! I purchased 1 bag about 2 weeks ago and the total came to about $22.00 with coupons...that is shipped! I just went on and checked to see what it cost now....$40.00 DOLLARS NOW! Shipping is $20.00! WTF! :mad:

I called their customer service and the lady told me that the were using a flat shipping rate and now they changed (without notifying their customers!) to how much the package will weight and where its going! :colbert:

Guess I will have to start buying the 5 pack...you basically get a free bag and free shipping this way! Hopefully they don't change it!

I just checked on the 5 pack for $85.00...the total comes to $178.00!!!! WHAT?!

That is $93.00 shipping costs...Really, that is money that can go to another 5 pack order!

Basically to get it shipped for free you need to do AUTOSHIP...A couple of you have posted thats what you are doing, so how often are you guys ordering a 5 pack and what size (or how many) rat colonies do you have?

The increase in rates might not be entirely their fault: UPS just announced that they're raising/increasing their rates effective January 1, 2012, so that might be National Pet Pharmacy responding in kind. UPS is who delivers mine when I order it, so that would be my guess as to the "why" of the situation. Sucks nonetheless, but it sounds like there's a work-around with the auto-ship, at least for now.

The autoship gives you free shipping and you can set it as far out as once every three months. With the code NOV15 the 5 pack is $72.

I could see how it would cut down on the costs on their end: they're paying their staff the same regardless, so it makes sense that it would be easier logistically and financially for them to want to steer people toward having a fixed time frame so they could predict their orders. Saves on fuel costs to transport stuff in if they get a run on rat feed, lmao! Wonder if that ever happens...hahahahaha! I know mine breed like crazy but I can't imagine they get slammed with orders too often...I dunno. Hopefully they leave it alone and that's that.

OK, had a little time to play with the site today. I logged out and went in like a new customer with no credentials. It gave me a place to enter the NOV15 promotion code, then it took away the free shipping or option for auto ship. So, if you use a promo code, you will have to pay full freight on shipping, which is about as expensive as the food itself. You would be better off just buying it and then auto shipping to get the delivery for free.

I set up for auto-ship once a month. Talking to the lady on the phone, I can change the order at any time, add to it, take stuff off, or get it shipped immediately instead of waiting.

So with all the flexibiilty they allow, I'm comfortable using the auto-ship. As my rat colony grows to a mature colony I can add more food or bedding onto my monthly orders, OR change it to every 2 months or whatever.

If they did remove the auto-ship and didn't have any way to buy without paying the actual frieght/shipping cost, I wouldn't buy from them. The order I made was $58(3 bags of aspen + 1 bag of rat food) and the shipping was $66. FOr double the price like that, I can buy locally when I need stuff, pay the same and even get more food for the price.

So as long as auto-ship/free shipping works, I guess I'll keep using them.

No. I just ordered a 5 pack and the shipping was free. I had to log out to be able to apply the coupon like you did, but after a couple of screens it will allow you to select autoship and automatically adjust the price to reflect free shipping.

I just did the same thing and when the auto ship option came up and I checked it, it eliminated the discount. So, I could get free shipping or the coupon. Check your receipt. The price changed right after selecting auto ship.

Okay I don't know if this has to be step by step, but I just tried it again and it worked fine.

Log out, search for the 4018, add the 5 pack, proceed to cart, add the NOV15 promo and hit Apply, type in your zip code and hit Apply, proceed to checkout, log in, check the auto-ship box and change the frequency to whatever.

Hell yeah this shiz is a good price for 5 bags at 73 bucks! I also found different rodent feed locally at 50 lb bags at 22 bucks each...don't know what it is yet but as soon as I get the details I will share:screwy:

I was playing with my cart and noticed that if you dont check mark the box for auto ship at the begining and wait til the final page before you submit your order to select auto shipping....that the promo code and free shipping are both on there!:D

So the total I am getting for 5 bags shipped for free is: $72.07 with Promo Discount of: $12.72....hope this helps everyone :gj:

OK, this has been really frustrating, but I setup a whole new account under a different email address and did the exact same things that I did the last eight to ten times (even on the new account) and this time for some reason it worked. Didn't do anything different, but got different results. :gj:

They just raised the price for the 5-bag to $143.09. Auto-Ship does not lock in the old price so check your orders.

I called and spoke to a manager who agreed that it is a huge price jump. They are checking to see if it was a mistake on the website.

I just noticed this too. I am very unhappy!! It seems like a scam, I sign up for autoship, and they raise the price by almost 50%!


Let me know if I should call them as well, and how to get in touch with the same manager you spoke to.

It is simple to me. Once you receive your shipment, then cancel auto ship. If they are going to raise the price by that much, they can't make you buy the product. Petfooddirect.com also raised the price to $134.95 for the five bag package. What is odd is that the five bag order is the same price as a single bag multiplied by five. There is no discount for volume.


Looks like when I run out, I'm going to switch over to hog feed, unless I can find another deal.

It was a pricing error on the website. I just ordered my rounds. The website prices are set to expire so it wasn't caught in time. The price has reverted and will stay that way. I ordered my usual 5-pack and 5 bedding with free shipping :) Their customer service is always on point! Super painless and they apologized a lot for the mishap. I setup autoship for 3 months. Native Earth is much superior to Mazuri. I've fed both and there really is no comparison. I like their shredded aspen too.
