BP eyes and laser thermometers

When I check temps with my laser thermometer, I try to avoid hitting my BP's eyes. Sometimes it's hard to see just where they are when in a hide though. Does anyone know if and how much a laser could damage a BP's eyes?

Good question.

I worry sometimes that I may have accidently hit one of my BP's eyes. One of them seems to have larger than usual pupils, although he seems to see just fine.

It is not great for human eyes and anatomically they are similar so no it is likely not good for snakes either.

Agreed. I think I'll use something other than laser to measure temp when I can't see where their eyes are.

My Ir gun has a switch to turn the laser on and off if needed.

I know I'll regret admitting this but back when checkout scanners first popped up, at Staples, I picked up the handheld scanner and looked into it.

It hurt like a :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r:!

I had "flash burn" for about 3 days, much like you'd get from looking at welding.

I'm very paranoid about where the kids are when I'm [compulsively] temp-checking.

[yes, I do need somebody to hold my hand when I cross the street, too]...LOL

Is it inside the battery compartment?

If so, I think mine does too.

There's two little switches in there.

Think I'll go check right now.

in side the compartment is likely ºF or ºC mine has a soft buttons around the display. Emissifity, light, mode (hi, low, average E) , laser≤ and thermocoupler. It is more expensive than most, my other one doesn't have a laser at all. a bit a tape over the laser would work. It is usually a separate hole.

I found the switch.

[and no, I wasn't really out of the room that whole time]....:)

if you are like me you were looking for it the whole time. ;)

There is a slight possibility u could blind your snake.. much higher to cause eye damage

I remembered seeing 2 switches in there when I put the battery in and I only checked to make sure it was set on F instead of C.

Figured the other switch had to be for the laser.

[like maybe to set it on "Stun"...or something]
