Confirmed M. mesomelas female and new P. ornata female
Well I confirmed my Megaphobema mesomelas to be a definite female with her last molt (have pictures of the molt and such). I am pretty excited about that because they are one of my all time absolute favorite tarantulas!!!!
I also got a new T in today. A 4" confirmed female Poecilotheria ornata. She came from TarantulaHomes.com (they make amazing T enclosures).
Unfortunately my stupid computer is not working (possible graphics card) so I can not post pics right now. I have been posting here from my phone. I do have pics of everything though and when I get my computer fixed I will update this thread. Thanks for looking and sorry there are no pics to look at right now :(

I hope my luck is as good as yours LOL share the wealth ;)
Congrats on your new addition! Looking forward to the pictures :D
Lol  Well I did pay for the ornata as a confirmed female :D My OBT that I suspect is female just molted but I can't get to the molt without completely destroying the web. So that one is still unsexed unless it brings the molt out for me by chance

Thanks!! Yeah, STUPID computers!!!! I will probably have more new T's before my computer gets fixed. A Poecilotheria metallica (the one I have now I am like 99.9% sure is male) and a Poecilotheria rufilata will be coming in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks Alexa!!! I love the mesomelas!! Kind of like a better version of a Brachypelma Smithi IMO. They are eaisly in my top 3 favorite T's. My Megaphobema robustum I am pretty sure is male but between that and the mesomelas I am VERY glad my mesomelas is female!!!

Thanks!!! It's very hard to see the flaps in my pics some times because my camera is not the greatest and a lot of times the tarantula is not that big so neither is the goods if you know what I mean. I think the mesomelas females molt measured in at 2 1/4" (have a pic of molt next to a tape measure) so this one will be hard to see also but you can definitely see it once you start to know what your looking for :gj:

Hey, me too  This is going to be my 4th P. Metallica sling!!! The last 3 (I only have one now though) have turned out to be male. Hopefully I have better luck with this one but I doubt it - lol

Anyone can derail any of my threads at any time!!! It never bothers me personally at all :gj: So feel free to ask me whatever you want in any of my threads!! IMO they are not hard to keep. They are very fast and skiddish though. They are photosensitive and like all pokies have some very strong venom. They are said to be one of the more docile types of pokie to work with. 2 P. Metallica slings were my FIRST pokies and my first old world tarantulas for that matter that I ever worked with. I personally did not have a single problem. I did a lot of reading on them (bite reports and anything I could) and watched a ton of videos before hand. I had worked with lots of other tarantulas befor I got them though (just not Old Worlds).

If you're not handling them how likely are you to get bit? I read something about slings dying a lot because of not being properly misted - how often do you mist yours? Have you heard anything like that? Any pokie specific information sources? I'm sure I'll come up with more.
Photosensetive = They really do not like light.
Bite Reports (just look for the P. metallica if there are any):
http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/foru...6-Bite-Reports
Also Bite Reports on You Tube (Here is one for RobC when he got bit by a 10" P. ornata):

You can possibly get bit durring cage feedings, cleanings, any time you open the lid, cage transfers, breeding etc.
The humidity is naturally high where I am. I rarely ever mist my P. metallicas but they always have a nice size full water dish at all times.
I have heard of the humidity issue yes. Mainly with avics and species that require really high humidity.
If you search aracnoboards and surf youtube videos you can find a wealth of information (you have the weed through the crappy info though).

They can't do much for you at the hospital but I would go to get checked out and get muscle relaxers for all the cramping. Getting bit by a pokie does NOT sound like a pleasurable experience at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not to mention you have symptoms from the bite for weeks after. I don't know about the force but the longer the fangs the more possiable mechanical damage they can do to you. Plus whatever bacteria are on the fangs.
