New pics of my bp! Possible pastel?
Ok so this is Ziggy! I bought this BP last year at the end of may (for my B-day :)) and it was supposedly a month old when I got it. I bought it from a friend and he told me it was a pastel. I carefully tried popping and I think it's a female as there were no hemipenes in sight, could be wrong though as I'm no expert. Now, I don't really know if it's just a normal or a pastel since I don't know much about morphs, but I was hoping you guys might help! If not, then just enjoy the pics :D

She's cute and I really like your setup. :)

I'm not really seeing pastel there though.

Yeah the brownish coloring of the scales and the green eyes shows me that it's a pastel. Not much in the way of blushing or flames but it's still a cutie.

she's adorable and very pretty, but i don't think she's a pastel. in some photos it looks like your camera is applying too much yellow, and in some photos she looks "normal" brown. but her back is too black. she doesn't have any blushing.

well i don't know actually, i have dual monitors and when i moved the BP.net window to my Samsung her colors look WAY different.

    so who knows!

Can you get a picture of her out of her cage, preferably in nature light?

You've got to really look at picture #6 to see it. The line of browning scales along the sides, the orange coloration. It's just a lower quality pastel. I've hatched some like that.

To the OP, get a lamp with a decent wattage "daylight" bulb in it, put the snake on a white poster board or on red cypress mulch and try to get a few good pics of it being still.

It will be very obvious then.

Here is one of similar quality that I produced..

Shes got the green eyes and light coloring of a pastel but no blushing...

I would say take her out in natural light and snap more photos. A good side profile body shot, a head shot and a belly shot.

The pictures your showing have different exposures.
She looks promising for a pastel though!

Re: New pics of my bp! Possible pastel?
My setup has a UV light, that may have caused the super yellow compared to my iphones regular flash on the darker pics... I'll try to shoot some more tomorrow if i get the chance, in regular daylight. Thanks for all the replies guys!

why does your setup have a UV light?

Another thing I noticed is in picture #4 how the blushing on the head wraps around down behind the snakes jaws.

It's a pastel. They are just bad pics in bad light. Not all pastels have blushing or wide markings. Refer to my picture. My example inherited her mothers pattern exactly up until the last 1/4 of her body.

It's just a light I used to have for a pair of chameleons I owned and I decided to put it to use when I got the snake. Only turn it on once in a while though because it lowers humidity alot. Not really used as a heat source either since I have a UTH for the bark hide. Also read somewere it helps provide vitamins or something lol

And yea I'll dedfinitely post some more pics tomorrow so you guys can give me a more definite answer :) thanks again!

I'll go against the grain and say I don't believe it's a pastel. Green eyes are a trait in pastels, but I've had normals with green eyes as well.

Also, in picture six, you can see that the belly is not a classic pastel belly. As for the fading spreading behind the head, I've got normals that do that as well.

Pictures in natural lighting and better belly pictures are needed before I'd be convinced that it's a pastel.

    Still a very pretty snake!

I see a very pretty normal, but I don't see a pastel. It will be interesting to see more pics in better light.

Not a pastel. The colors are just off in the pics. Pic 8 seems to have the most accurate colors and it really looks normal.

Also, blushing wrapping down the head doesnt mean pastel either. I have a normal with blushing like that.

It looks like a normal to me. A nice normal, but a normal nonetheless. Still a great pet.

Btw Carlos what high school did you go to? You look familiar.

Yea I don't mind if it's normal or pastel, just curious to what it really is. I'm not planning on breeding it or anything lol and I went to John A. Ferguson in Miami (class of 2010), you?

Btw I'll post the pics later tonight when I get home.

Well now I have to take back my original answer. Some of the first pics made that snake look like a browned out orange pastel but it is definitely just a jungle type patterned normal.

    Very pretty though.

    This ^^^

First pictures made me think nice normal - second set of pictures confirm it. Definitely NOT a pastel.

Eyes don't look green to me with the new pictures, as said its a normal, but to those that said green eyes remember that light stripe through the eye at that angle can allude green eyes too.
