Banana male puzzle solved.
Yep....it's true fans. "They" know EXACTLY how to get a male. Should they tell the world or should "they" keep it to themselves? This is valuable info if you have it. What do you think the "players" should do? After BG hears from his fans he'll give you his opinion.:gj: Whether or not he'll tell you how is another story.:D
Now you see. This is why BG is valuable. Who else is gonna give you this?;):D
ps. Come on Hillbillies. You could have at least found someone to do it with more than one post.:P

okay... i guess there is another 'consiriacy' in the world i didnt know about. i learned of kinked carmels today (thanks you BG) AND read all about the desert x desert theorys (with three threads or so about drove me nuts.... thanks BG for providing entertainment) and NOW BG is going to educate me again???:bow:

And if anyone wants to talk bananas instead of banana peppers, this is an interesting read.

Re: Banana male puzzle solved.
I think secrets are sure to bite the keeper. The morph is out there, eventually the community will figure it all out. If it turns out that one of the early theories like it being recessive in males and co-dom in females (classic sex linked) is right and was shot down with misinformation for a competitive advantage I think it will prove to have been a short sighted gain. Past secrets like spinning spiders and kinking caramels and poor caramel and desert female production have made the consumer base very sceptical and I believe tarnished some images.
Now as discussed in another thread (where I caught a heck of a lot of flack for a mis reading that I was saying there was a secret, so would be ironic if there really is one after all, even though I'm still not the one saying so) it's a tight line to walk because it takes time to confirm a theory and that time can be misinterpreted as malicious secret keeping.

Our zucchini plant was flowering a few weeks ago, and lone week between when we spotted flower and we had our first harvest, it had grown close to 30lbs of zucchini. Cool stuff. Our first tomatoes should be ready this weekend, and I'm excited to get a start on it, as we likely will have multiple hundreds of pounds from only 20 plants. We have mutant soil that tomatoes just like for some reason, and peppers seem to dislike. Every time I open the gate to go weed the rows, I'm humming "attack of the killer tomatoes".
Can we talk surfing instead? BG is getting tired of fish stories lately. :)

If "attention" was all Big Gunns wanted all he would need to do is post pics of himself shirtless. This would draw worldwide "attention".:D

Where is this thread? Big Gunns would like to see it so he can see who the liars are.

BG is referring to his friend, ozzy who produced 3.1 (3! males) in once clutch I presume.
It's posted over at reptile radio.

BG actually wasn't, but Ozzy's clutch is very amusing to BG. BG knows someone that might lose control of his patrol car over this one.:rofl:

I don't think the community knows how to price them now. At least for toffee's, because now that we know they are just a supped up albino... what are they worth? Males may hold value, but the females should drop like a ROCK!

BG, the thread Randy was referring to is on Bush-League here: http://www.reptileradio.net/reptiler...ad.php?t=21824

Thanks for chipping in Russ. You could rewrite it to talk about color blindness in humans, but then that'd throw the ZW/ZZ out of whack.

This is what I was thinking, but oh well.
I was just going to say that if it is as simple as sex linked, then that is easy. Obviously you can't produce a male from a male banana if he only passes on his Y chromosome if the banana gene is X linked. However the female passes along the X chromosome and if the banana gene is linked to the X chromosome, then you need a female banana to make male bananas. Which has been the common train of thought anyway.
there is obviously more to it than that though.
-
Snakes don't ascribe to the XX/XY system. They use the ZZ/ZW system, where males are ZZ and females are ZW, kind of opposite of humans.
-
BG, your a silly dude. I know exactly how to get a male.....
....make a phone call and write a big check(don't forget all those zeros). Then hope the wife doesn't complain about the hardwood floors she's been wanting for years.

I vaguely remember learning that in high school ....
So then if you have it W linked, that would make sense.
But my question is, how then are males able to produce more female bananas?

I don't believe it is a sex linked gene. It just doesn't add up for me that it is.
-
Yeah, it really doesn't. That's why I asked that last question, because it contradicts the sex linked theme.
-
wow ive never read a thread where somebody is so conceded... somebody thinks they are a lot cooler than they actually are lol like if you want to share your opinion then give it if not im not gonna lose sleep over it.. who cares
-
I agree, either share it or keep it to yourself..but don't wave it in peoples' faces and wait to get worshipped and begged for the information.
-
i mean seriously... who cares.. oh your sooo cool you have info your not telling us.. haha what a joke, get a life buddy
-
I'm not saying that bananas are sex-linked, but hypothetically to answer the previous question about how to get female banana offspring from male banana breeders:
If the banana trait was W-linked recessive, much like some human color blindness is X-linked recessive:
ZW female bananas are essentially hets
WW males are essentially homozygotes.
Both are just 'banana' phenotype.
banana male to a normal female, ALL the females would be bananas, as all would receive the banana trait from the male.
The problem lies in producing banana males from a pairing that does not have a banana male.. which must have been done if people don't think that the trait is w-linked.
-
Here's soemthing interesting I learned with goats. Perhaps something similar applies to snakes.
When a doe cycles, she's only fertile for 24 hours. When she's bred early in her heat cycle, you're going to predominately get female kids. However, the later you wait to breed her (or the later she lets the buck breed her) the chance of male offspring goes up. The first year that my parents bred the goats, we pen bred everyone. As soon as we noticed the doe wagging her tail, she was put in with a buck. Consequently, we had about 80% females born. Now, there's bucks that are called "doe makers" because they have a female to male ratio with their kids. I'm not entirely sure if there's something genetic going on or if the bucks just woo over the does at the right time.
Maybe someone needs to take a bunch of normals and just experiment with different set ups. If when cooling, cool the prospective pair together so they have the exact same temperatures which means as soon as the female is receptive, the male can latch on. The point is, experiment. We all know that husbandry isn't set in stone; everyone has their own methods. Even the pros learn new things each year.

I sure would like to hear about who has this puzzle solved, bananas are pretty sweet, but I had pretty much counted them out of future projects for me!

Aren't Big Gunns threads and posts ALWAYS "interesting"?
Don't count them out....they are still awesome. It will take a while, but the price will eventually come down if that's your issue. Everything comes down sooner or later. The lower prices seem to have more people interested than ever.

BG, BG, BG. You of all people should know that I have a large collection of high quality goat morphs. I have several hold backs from this year and last year that I'm hesitant to show pictures of due to them being potentially new morphs, such as the tentatively named "Black hole" and the "Blue eyed leutistic paradox". I'm very close to proving that the paradox is a breedable gene. However, to answer your question, yes, I have a Desert morph goat. Several, in fact.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...t/100_3956.jpg
Here, you can also see some of my other morphs. Yes, I co-hab. No, I don't want to hear about it. From top to bottom: Black eyed leucy, reduced pattern Desert, reduced pattern chocolate pied, reduced pattern chocolate (left), and another black eyed leucy.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...t/100_3957.jpg
A better look at the Desert. Notice the uniform coloration.

Yeah, they have been up there, but I know that's the way morphs go(And I'm not interested in buying CHEAP snakes, I'm trying to spend as much as I can on a small group of incredible snakes as opposed to a ton of cheap animals..But there is only so much I can afford to spend on my first breeders) but I've also been watching breeders argue over them on facebook and it's been driving me bonkers :rolleye2: Claims of hiding males and lying about this or that...I've been trying to stay away from the drama! It's probably mostly just been the people around me, but it's been enough to frustrate me a bit! Hopefully with time as the price drops a bit, the drama will too! :P Until then I'll watch on the sidelines ;)

Love the goats. What do you use them for? We're likely going to have a goat in the (hopefully) not too far off future, but he'll likely be just a companion animal while we focus on alpacas.

The majority of the breeding stock are pets, although a couple have been sold as meat. The unregisterable males get sold as brush goats or meat.

Dude. Ignore feature. Works wonders. In a month or two, this troll will disappear without actually proving or saying anything, and all will be back to normal on BP.net. I'm not sure how much he's paying the admins of this site, but I'll bet it's a pretty penny to keep him here.

Hahahahaha thats awsome man.
I think that by the time we really find out how to get the banana morphs there is going to be another morph out there thats noones gonna be able to figure out. This hobby is relatively new and we still havent brokin the skin on the morph possibilities. A year from now i can bet you that well be having this same talk on how to produce a new morph.

Unlike some other forums we do not ban people based on whom we dislike or whom we disagree with, just like we do not keep people around based on friendships, status in the herp industry or anything else for that matter.
There is only one standard here on BP.net to be a member and use this forum and it is the ability of our members to abide by our TOS ..........and last time I check Neil did not break any of our TOS.

Hay Hedge you have been talking about the ignore feature since yesterday ignore him already.

Dude. Really?
But since you put it out there - I'll tell you. $0
That's right - the staff is a completely voluntary position. BG has paid no advertising $ here, nor has he offered or paid anything to any member of the staff.
And as Deborah has already mentioned - he has not violated any TOS. Well, he did get an infraction from me the last time he was here, and to his credit - took it without complaint, unlike many members who meep over a zero point warning.
I find your comment personally insulting, and bordering on disrespect to staff. To even insinuate that the staff of this forum that works hard to run this site for YOU and even for BG to use would accept bribes or pay offs is extremely patronizing and supercilious.
If you don't care for ANY member's posts - don't even open their threads. With membership in the tens of thousands, you can bet your pretty behind that there are members here that even the staff doesn't care for. But we don't ban people simply because we don't like them or they annoy us. That's one reason every one on staff was hand picked - BECAUSE when it comes to serious decisions like banning - they have demonstrated their ability to remain impartial and fair.
Any monies collected through advertising and sales of t-shirts go DIRECTLY back into maintaining this site.
Now, are there any other accusations or allegations about the staff that you'd like to present to the membership?
-
Interesting.
... I'm curious who "they" is who seem to know so much.
... I mean, I've been told how to make a male ... How to make lots of males, in fact.
But the individual giving the information (who would, I think, be one of those in the know) still didn't seem to know why it works the way it seems to work, which in my mind is the operative question ...
So, I dunno. I don't think I'm privy to too much insider information ... But I do know that a conversation I had with someone the other day didn't seem to suggest any sort of conspiracy. (To play the "cryptic" game for a minute ...) Rather the contrary.

BG now has you all figured out. Clearly you like Dolphin meat for breakfast.:D
It is really amazing just how well that "ignore feature" is working for you. It seems to work just as well with you that it does with everyone else that says they "ignore" BG.
And FYI. BG is pretty sure that if the staff could pay BG to go away and keep his big flapper shut, they'd empty their bank accounts to do it in a second.:D

No need to get upset with Hedgy guys. Most people realize he's full of it. Now if BG was a mod his response would be something like this.
Big Gunns gets paid per angry member. If he angers more than 10 members a day he gets a bonus. He gets $100 per infraction and double that for an outright ban. If the person has been here longer than 2 years and gets banned, BG gets a paid vacation to Italy and $1000 credit towards banner space. So far BP.net has had to take out some huge loans just to pay Big Gunns, but it's worth every penny.:D
Now....that's moderating Big Gunns style.

Re: Banana male puzzle solved.
Hmm,
Since I'm just passing through could someone skip the cryptic and actually just tell me the information on how to make male bananas?
Does it also rule out a different looking superform of banana?
I'd also like to know what's happening with the candino/ toffino thing and the real deal with desert females?
I hear someone had 8 desert females slug out but no confirmation from anyone.

:P I think these threads are fun. YES he's trying to rile you up, why do you let him?? Don't let his speech upset you, it seems to be just the way BG likes to roll. If we don't get any info out of this thread..oh well?? How many other 'useless' threads are there on this site? Or threads with the same info over and over again..it's a public forum. Don't break the rules and have fun! I'm sort of amazed at the people getting so upset over this. But of course I was trolled by a REAL troll before who after harrassing me for weeks hacked into all my accounts, posted NSFW pictures on each of them, got me banned from a bunch of places, and said some horrible insults that really stung what's left of my self esteem. This? This is just someone going nyah nyah nyah and not telling us what he knows..so...so what? Didn't we all experience this in grade school? If he starts breaking the rules, then we can all throw a fit ;) at least that's my personal opinion.

So..desert females can produce. Just not deserts...? Can that happen?
I think how to make a Flatline should be added to the list of questions though.
