    My new month old Carpet
Well finally broke down and got a Carpet. She's a Jungle/Coastal cross. Not nippy or headshy or anything at all haha, perfectly calm. I was told she's around a month old. This is the only pic I have for now.

So I'm a very happy dad of my new girl haha. She ate a pinky last Friday and it was a little small even though she is tiny. Tonight I decided to let her give a fuzzy F/T mouse a go. It was a little bigger than her but I read that Carpets can eat a little bigger than they are around. I dropped it in and immediately she coiled around it and swallowed it! I was so happy. She has a substantial lump now but she got it right down haha. Just thought I'd give a little update.

so apparently scaly had decided to start biting me every time I get her out. It doesn't hurt at all but is just annoying. Any ideas for getting her to calm down? Will she possibly with time and some calm handling? Oh got her swapped to rats already too, she are her first pinky rat the other day. Anyways thanks in advance for any advice!

With time and handling she should calm down. My 1st carpet,Hazard, was a lil demon the day she came in. She'd strike at any and everything, including herself. My gf and I just kept handling her and a few months later she stopped being a demon.

Well bad news on my carpet, she somehow escaped last night :(, not sure how it happened... Anyways, theres some spots in the back room where she could escape forever, hoping she didnt :(... I put a heatpad on the floor and her hide and a f/t mouse hoping she will come back but it isn't looking too good. Pretty bummed.

I would suggest a routine, always use the same sanitizer and maybe tap her head with a paper towel roll or something else that wont hurt if she tags it.. and patience

The main reasons I have heard baby carpets are sooo nipy is A) they think they might starve to death, high feeding response = high amount of strikes at anything that could be food and B) you are soooo much bigger than they are they are easily made defensive... The ritual could help with the bites if they are due to feeding response and if they are due to her being scared the patience might serve you even better.

The main thing I have heard is that they calm with age, my male coastal (who I rescued as an adult) is super tame and calm.. hell he even likes his chin scratched.

    Good luck!!

Well, I went and got another carpet. A male this time and he's 5 feet long already. Got him set up in his new tank and have plenty of locks for this guy, he's not going anywhere. Still keeping a mouse out and a hide for the baby girl, hopefully she comes back :( I'll post pics of "blue" later on.

Coastals are lovely. I have seen this cross once before, often coastals are used in crosses due to the large sizes they get to.
I live in Australia myself and am starting to get into hybrids and morphs of morelia cheynei.
not alot of people here like the idea of hybrids, however with a skilled eye and some time wonderful hybrids can be produced. for example I plan to cross a high yellow diamond python with a black and gold jungle, i have seen this cross before and it is awesome
heres one from the aussie forum im part of: a jungle diamond jag
