Yes, its the psychology of it all. It's only happening so much because you're thinking about it. Take a Tylenol and do some stretches before bed. I guarantee you'll sleep through the night, no problems.

I hate when those dreams happen LOL.
Just like the first poster said when this happens, just relax. When you try to panic and get out of the dream it really won't work LOL. When this happens to me, all I really do is relax and let it pass, then wake up.
Plus thinking about it before you go to bed will only make it happen again. So when you go to sleep, try not to focus your mind on that happening again. Think about Ball pythons if that makes ya happy :D.

Yup, this is true. When you are in REM (during the time you actually dream), your body is paralyzed. Have you ever woke up and thought your dream actually happened or had the thoughts and memories vividly linger for a little bit? That is probably happening to you while you are in the paralysis part. The whispering and stuff is probably the dream partially continuing as your body hasn't realized you have woken up yet.

Keep in mind as well that our world is full of sounds. There are crickets and tree frogs and other night critters calling from outside. Soft whirs of the air conditioner or the rhythmic swoosh of a ceiling fan. A TV or stereo playing in another room. Neighbors talking outside. Cars, trains, dogs barking.........
All of these sounds, especially the more subtle ones, can contribute to the "whispering" you think you hear. Try to remember that it's not whisperings at all...just the natural noises of the night. Instead of being frightened of it...lay quietly and analyze what you're hearing. Don't try to make out words...(that'd just add to the scary factor! LOL)...try to listen for each individual source of true sound your ears are picking up. Is the AC running? Is a dog barking outside? Are there crickets? Doing so will keep yourself focused in reality and you'll either become more wakeful....or drift more peacefully into sleep.

Don't worry it's not all that uncommon - your brain is just waking up before it has released the paralysis it induces during sleep to stop you running off cliffs or falling out of trees. :)

Yeah as other have said its called sleep paralysis and it is often accompanied by auditory and visual hallucinations. This is completely natural stuff that can be really scary. Do some reading on it. There is a lot you can learn about it and what you can do when it happens.
Re: Does this happend to you when you sleep
The first time I heard of this it was attributed to someone that said aliens came in thier room and paralized them to do tests. It turns out this person was having alien dreams and suffering from sleep paralysis. I know this would be a super weird feeling so hopefully knowing what it is will make it easier for you to relax until the feeling goes away.
I did find a few tips that may help.
Make sure you are getting enough sleep 7-8 hours for an adult.
Try to reduce stress before you go to bed maybe try some stress reducing yoga exercises before bed.
Try not to sleep on your back, slepp paralysis is much more common if you sleep on your back.
Hope that helps.
