My First Sac!
I bred my A. versicolor for the first time a few months back and this is what she gave me. :D HUGE sac with lots of babies! I'm so excited about how many will turn out, I have lost quite a few these past few days but i'm crossing my fingers for the rest and hope there are no more losses. This is her first sac aswell as mine. Cross your fingers and wish these little troopers good luck!

I know nothing about T's but that is wicked-looking. Are they regularly opened and incubated like that? It's interesting. P:

Re: My First Sac!
Congrats! :)
Versi's are in my top 5. Its pretty common to lose a few during incubation, more that 5% and somethings wrong. Versi's in particular will up and die for no apparent reason some times though. From 2i to about 6i youll need to keep temps/humidity/and ventilation up thats when they are really touchy. I've had around 10versi sacs over the years, xchondrox over on AB pm or email me if i can help at all.

I have snakes and monitors but your little guys just freak me out. :D

BIG congrats!!!!! Good luck with them :salute:

:O The last picture of all the babies is really cool and interesting! I'm not much of a fan of spiders too much, but this definitely makes me want to learn more about them. She's pretty! And congrats! :gj:

It just depends on the breeder... Some let the mom take care of it and others would rather not risk the mother eating it. versi's tend to be good mothers so I left the sac in with her for almost 2 months, she just made me nervouse so I decided to pull it. I also just couldn't wait to see what I would find! Sometimes the sacs don't make it at all or they are just infirtile so it was quite a surprise when I found these little guys in there.

Man do I love my versi! :D Thanks for the info. I have not had anymore loses since them and the remaining ones are up and crawling around. They are still first instar so i'd say another month until they molt into 2nd? All in all I lost about 40 eggs and slings but the eggs just shriveled up so i'm sure they weren't good to begin with, the others took care of them and used them as food, lol! I haven't counted them out since then so don't know how many are left but it's quite a few. :D

Oh I can't wait for my little guys to get that blue! I had never seen a versi sling until now and I really want to see the blue color first hand. I'm going to hold back quite a few and grow those out before I sell them. :D

Maybe you should start with a tiny little guy like these to get you over your fear! :D They don't reach their full adult size until they are about 5 to 6 years old, this will give you time to get comfortable with your spider before it's a big hairy tarantula, lol! :)

Re: My First Sac!
Eggs with legs! Congrats!
Did the male survive his encounter with the female when they bred?

Thank you and yes he did! He went in, did his thing and was quickly scooped back up. She was more interested in getting in on than getting a good meal. :D

Congratulations. They are tiny. What do you keep them in to keep them secure and ventilated? Hope they all grow up to be big and strong. How early can you sex them and what do you hope you get (male vs female)?

Thank you!
Right now they are being kept on 2 tupperware containers (snap sides type), top of lid cut off, panty hose stretched over it, filled half way with water, and those are in a larger plastic container with holes in the lid. Don't know if you can picture that but if you look at the pictures posted you'll get a better idea. They are able to be kept together until 2nd instar, when the time comes I will be seperating them into individual viles to keep them from eating eachother.
I'd have to say you have to wait until the spider reaches atleast 2 inches before you are able to sex them... Easiest way to do that is to use one of their molts. They have 2 sets of book lungs and right between the first set there is a little flap (forgot what it's called) in females and if it's male the area is smooth. :D I will be selling them as slings for 15 dollars each but will be holding onto a few to grow them out. Females are more sought out for than males because of the breeding and their life spans. Males only live for a few years and once they reach sexual maturity they die just a few months later.

Haha! I'm surprised as to how many snake lovers are afraid of spiders. Don't they go hand in hand? :D

Those little slings are sooooo cute! I started reading up on Ts a little while ago but my husband is deathly afraid of spiders. I am forbidden from having one unless I have a separate building from the house to keep it in. I hope that is him giving me the okay to build my own facility. Then I can have a T or two. I love watching the youtube videos out there on Ts.
