New!! Very excited!! M. robustum, M. mesomelas, P. miranda...
I was VERY excited to get this order!!!! I have been dying to pick up a Megaphobema robustum and I finally got one after forever!!!!! I also picked up a Megaphobema mesomelas (another one I really wanted), Poecilotheria miranda (one of my fav pokeys, next to the P. metallica and P. subfusca Higland - should be picking one of these up for fathers day), Grammostola pulchra unsexed but ventrally it looks like a girly :D, and a tiny Avicularia versicolor to complete my order :salute:

The Megaphobema robustum is beautiful and the Poecilotheria miranda is really cute in a fuzzy way. I don't have any but they fascinate me. I hope my son will take an interest in them when he's older! Congrats and thanks for sharing. :)

You are a braver man than me....They just scare the crap out of me....lol

Thanks!! The Megaphobema robustum is a beautiful T and VERY hard to get which is why it took me so long to get one - lol. The Poecilotheria miranda looks even better as an adult but you just got to be careful with them as they are super fast and have a really potent venom :D

Thanks Derek!!! If you check out the defensive videos on the Megaphobema robustum you won't be sorry!! They have really cool and unique defense tactics!!! They kick hairs, they will spread their legs and bob up and down and they will spin around in a circle to try and impale you with the hairs on their back legs (called the cart wheel of death by some). The hairs on the back legs of the M. robustum have been said to draw blood. Should be a fun one to work with :D
The G. pulchra for the most part are super sweet and laid back. I have had at least a dozen over time and I think only one was overly defensive. Kind of like ball pythons. The majority are nice but each are individuals so now an again you will run across a defensive one. They are jet black once they start getting bigger. The off black/brownish color tells me she is smaller (if I were looking at pics) and she should be coming up for a molt here soon.
Here is an older/bigger one:

Congrats on the new additions! M. robustum are I think my favorite to look at as slings, they're so striking even at that young of an age! So far though a G. Pulchra and A. Versicolor are on my list next :P

Haha this is so true! At first I got my sling and thought it would be my only tarantula. WRONG. I enjoy them so much, and I wound up getting another not much more than a week later :P If you do it, you won't regret it!

Congrats on the new T's! The Poecilotheria miranda freaks me out a little bit. And the versicolor is going to be really cool looking when it gets bigger.

Thanks!! The pokey's freaked me out a bit before I got into them also in all honesty. Especially when reading the bite reports :O You just need to be very careful and alert when working with them. I REALLY enoying working with them now but my wife is not to keen on them because of the potent venom so I am not able to keep to many. I love the ones I can keep though :D I would rather work with a pokey any day then a New World tarantula. You just have to concentrate on not being bit with the Pokey's but the New World's all have those stupid itchy hairs to deal with and if they don't kick them at you they are in the stupid substrate and you have to deal with them durring cage maintance etc. I hate those dreaded hairs - lol!!!!! They make me break out in little red itchy welts that don't go away for like a week or two  I have heard the Megaphobema genus have some pretty bad hairs and I am not looking forward to dealing with that - lol.

My wife did a lot of research on some of the OW T's, and after reading some bite reports on the Ornamentals, decided not to get any. That and she's still a novice and the small kids around. NW T's are the way we went. For now. May look into getting some OW ones later on.

Yeah the bite reports are a very scary thing!!! I hope I never, never, never have to experience a bite from one of them!!! I only work with the Old World's that I like which isn't really many. I am not gotta have them all type of person. I like what I like and that's about the end of it - lol. You guys just take your time and when you guys feel ready then move up. Maybe an Old World with not such a strong venom to get used to working with OW's. If your never ready or not even really interested then you still got a TON of beautiful New World's you guys can work with!! There are some realy amazing New World's out there and if the hairs don't bother you guys then your good to go!!! I just really hate them hairs :rage: I deal with the hairs for some but I just really don't care for those hairs and it limits the amount of New World tarantula's I wish to work with in all honesty. I have to really like the T to deal with the possible hairs - lol. The hairs never used to bother me at all but over time it just got worse. I guess they can't really bother me to much because I have not completely given up on the hair kickers yet :D

They Are... *Thinking about right words*... Interesting.... *shivers*.... Congrats on Your new Additions ... *shivers again*

Congrats man!!
I have always had a fear myself.. was in a reptile store a couple months back and they had hundreds and hundreds of T's. In Lodi, Ca. The lady working there convinced my to just "pet" one of them on the underside of him and I was sooo amazed how friggin' soft he/she was! Velvety soft actually, almost somewhat soothing to an extent.
Like B said... someday, maybe someday.. lol
