What do ya think?
If you had a choice between buying a new 2011 car this Spring, would you buy a Challenger SRT8, or a 2011 SS Camaro, or the 2011 Ford GT500 Mustang?
I've got the fever and thought I'd buy on the American Muscle cars. The Dodge and Ford are true high performance cars, with a premium price tag. The Camaro is 10 grand cheaper, but lacks almost 100 HP in comparision to the other 2.
Thanks!

I prefer the mustang but the Challenger is cool too.

Challenger.....no competition......best looking retro on the road. Although the 800 HP Mustang Super Snake is gonna be a bomb in 2012:)

If I can talk my wife into it, I fully intend to get a Challenger and blow the doors off it first day out, lol! Good luck, whatever you decide. Oh, and pics would be AWESOME, lol! :D

Challenger, no ifs, ands, or buts.

Challenger! We were looking at the website a few weeks ago, it looks awesome! I love the interior.
-
I was in the same place last spring. I went and test drove all of them and the Camaro was my choice. The challenger is the worst of the bunch by far, good looks but lacks the get up and go of the others and cant take a corner to save its life. The Mustang is a hell of car, but i just couldnt get past the Camaros styling. If you cant decide just go give them all a test drive.

The normal Challenger perhaps but not the new SRT-8. They just did a shootout of all three of them. The SRT-8 is the way to go!

Another vote for Challenger.. Of course I've always been partial to them since one of the rarest ones has been my dream car since I was 15 lol.

Inside the line did a shootout with all 3 and the challenger was the slowest in a straight line and around the track. I think its a great looking car, but for about 7 grand less you can get a camaro or mustang that outperforms it.

Which trim packages did they test. Was the Challenger an SE, an SE Rallye, an R/T, or the SRT8,
What about the Ford, was the GT500 or something less?
As for the Camaro, I'd bet they tested the SS?
I'd like to see tests like this, but many times one manufacturer will get a leg up because they sent a better trimmed car.
Also, I've heard the old engineers at these companies will tweek their car to make it run much better than one off the showroom floor.
If anyone has any links regarding side by side or any other testing, please post them here.
Talked to the wife last night and I told her I'd sell the 74 Nova if I got the new muscle car. Don't really need the 74 if I get one of these.
I got mommy's permission to get one or the other. After all, she's been getting a car every 2 years for some time now. But I can't complain, I'm driving around in a 2009 Scion TC.
Thanks to all!

Challenger all the way for me... :gj:

Re: What do ya think?
I have a friend that works at Chrysler that says that the Chrysler Corp is unable to market their products as police cars because the transmissions often have problems at sustained high speed during chases.
For that reason only I would choose one of the other two choices. I prefer the looks of the Challenger and would enjoy playing with a Hemi.

I hear what you're saying but we have a ton of Chargers being used as police cars in and around Baltimore, Maryland.

It was an SRT-8, the SS and the mustang was the standard GT, if i knew how to make links i would post here for you.... Google search Challenger vs Camaro vs Mustang and about 100 links will pop up showing these tests.

Re: What do ya think?
I don't know much about cars, but my boyfriend absolutely LOVED the way the camaro SS drove, he complained that although the challenger was a little more impressive in stats, it wasn't as nice a drive as the camaro. he's also partial to mustangs but i think he'd agree more with whoever mentioned something about the super snake.
but if you want a pretty girl's opinion, I'm not a fan of newer muscle cars but i think the new camaro is a SEXY ride :D. I was sad when the boyfriend opted for a diesel ram rather than the camaro.

Re: What do ya think?
The Camaro, I,ll be getting mine around the end of the year. I just want the
2LT/RS. But you have to get what you want too. And then make it yours.
-
I vote Challenger :gj:
P.s. I'll take that 74 Nova off your hands.... :D

Well, there seems to be a fly in the ointment. Seems like my insurance will more than double by owning any of these three cars. The Challenger is the most costly, closely followed by the Mustang.
Challenger SRT8/392 = 270% increase.
Mustang GT500 = 250% increase.
Camaro SS = 205% increase.
WOW :O :O :O
This could be a deal killer.

well, heres my opinion. Granted I dont know much about cars, but Im slowly learning.
2011 Challenger SRT8- Personally I want one of these. Like bad. Its my dream car, in plum crazy with a black interior with the V8, stick shift. ( but then again, Ive always been partial to dodge ;) ) So this would be my first choice. Dispite what someone has posted, the handling is better than they make it out to be. The only thing I can say is to go test drive one and see how YOU like it. I just happen to think theyre an awesome vehicle.
2011 Camaro SS- This would be my second choice. For no reason other than being its Mopar. Im not a huge fan of chevy (even though at the moment I drive a cavalier until my jeep comanche is finished). From what I hear, it handles well and is an all around good, dancing on the line of great car.
2011 Mustang GT500- I will never own one, nor would I even consider it. I really dont like fords. No one take offense to that please, Im not trying to start an arguement, or make fun of anything/anyone. Its just the way I am
Mopar(or in my case AMC) or no car, is how I roll.
Now when it comes to insurance, heck yes its going to go through the roof. That is one of the biggest downfalls when it comes to owning a sports/muscle car.
~ Jamie
ps. dont let my opinion influence you lol. Im just saying what I would do.
Good Luck!

Yeah my insurance went insane too, i guess there is something about a 22 year old kid and a 420+ hp car that they thought was risky lol.
-
2011 Shelby GT500 all the way!!!
Quote:
The improvements in handling and performance gives the 2011 Shelby GT500 a skidpad rating of 1.0G, and a Virginia International Raceway lap time of 2:58:48, making it as fast, and sometimes faster, than cars such as the M3, Audi R8 V10, Dodge Viper SRT-10 and Porsche GT3 around this racetrack

The challenger is my least favorite of the bunch, it's just too massive of a car for me. Honestly though if you have the cash to buy one of the three, I'd say buy a used car and spend the huge saving difference on modifications. That's just my opinion, more power, and built exactly how you want it.
-
I have been behind the wheel of all of these car's except the SS, I've owned muscle cars to import's and to tell the truth for the money, I'd rather have a Porsche Caymen R or Corvette ZO6.
If I'm going to spend 50-70K on a car the three you listed would be way down the list.. Hell for 60 grand you could get a fully restored Shelby or Corvette. But if I was forced to pick one.
The Shelby GT500 would be it..that car just looks and feels like it would slap the taste out of your mouth for looking at it wrong.. But please the KR version.

Speaking of insurance I totalled a 1999 Mustang GT 6 months after buying it, it to 1.3 million dollars in medical bills for me and the other people in the car.
I then traded up for a supercharged Buick riveria
http://static.cargurus.com/images/si...-pic-3580.jpeg
I ended up paying almost 300.00 a month in insurance. Hated selling that car.

Ill pick the camaro, but ill wait for the 2012 model. You see mustangs everywhere!

I'm a dealer Porsche tech and to be honest, as much as I do like the cayman, I'd pick up a vette first. More bang for the buck. Considering what a C5 z06 is worth, pick that up, cams, long tube headers, intake, heads/head work, nice. A well built N/A LS sounds great :-)

Couldn't agree more..I really like how nimble the new Porsche's feel, they really feel responsive and to me are a more comfortable ride than the Vette. I had to deliver a 2001 ZO6 to New Orleans some years back and after an hour and a half I felt like my seat was bolted to the rear axle.
-
Personally I would get the Camaro because I have always loved the car. If I was solely getting the car for speed then I would hold out and save the extra cash to buy the 2012 GT500 Super Snake. That's 800 Horses in case you didnt know!

These rates were quoted for a 50 year old grumpy man. Doesn't seem that age has much a difference when it come to insuring one of these cars!

Admittedly I'm something of a Porsche fanboy, but if I had the money to buy any of the cars you're talking about new, I'd be looking at a used 911, preferably a 993 (1995-1998), because they're just so damn pretty, and as the last of the air-cooled Porsches, they make noises that are just sexy as far as I'm concerned. :)

mustang all the way!!!!!! no need to read all the comments, mustang 100% of the way...
