I'm going to quit smoking.
...I just read a post someone put on here, about their mom.
...I don't know if anyone cares, but I don't want to die.
I know I have to, so I'm not going to help hurry it up.
I'm going to call the doctor today and I'm going to try to get something prescribed to help me quit smoking.
You know what's sad? My parents are probably going to die of cancer from cigarettes.
I'm going to lose them some 15 years early because of cigarettes. Because of a drug.
...that won't be me. Some of you said you can't say "I'm going to try to quit", but you have to say "I will quit."
I will quit.
I don't want to kill myself.
I want to live.
I'm going to get help, and I'm done.
Sorry for the rant...my heart feels like it sunk into a pit in my tummy. I'm crying and anxious and panicky...
To the person who made the original post that sparked this...you have changed my entire view of everything. I don't know why your post. But...
some things happen for a reason, maybe.
:tears:

I've heard really great things about Chantix, as long as you stick with it. Good luck with quitting. My grandfather smoked since he was 17 years old, he quit about 6 years ago after a major heart attack, and he just died of stage 4 lung cancer that they could not catch quick enough. It was VERY hard to watch him die like that, no one deserves it. Unfortunately, we are ALL going to die sometime.

Wow...yeah, I'm pretty much done.
now i feel like whenever i smoke i'm slapping the family members of those who died of cancer in the face :(

I know what I'll do instead. I'll finally start up cello lessons again....haven't been able to afford them since I started smoking.
Then I'll play again....when I play, everything wrong in the world melts away.
:salute:

Re: I'm going to quit smoking.
I wish you luck in your endeavors to quit smoking Shellie. Definitely ask your doctor about some mediecation to help you quit. It will be tough, but don't give up.

The drugs are an aid the will still needs to come from you. I hope that you can find that strengh to quite and to stay quit.
best of Luck,
Alex

Good luck quitting I hear it's a hard thing to do.

I quit 4 years ago. My wife and I were smoking a pack a day each. Our son came home one day from school after learning about smoking and said he didn't want us to die from it. So he asked us to quit. That was all I needed. The hardest part for me was being around friends that smoke. Just recently I find myself wanting one when friends are around. I won't go back though. My grandmother that raised me died of cancer.

Re: I'm going to quit smoking.
I finally quit in 2004 after smoking 20+ years. Good luck with your efforts on it-you can do it!!!!:salute:
p.s. Just think of all the money you will save and can now use for your snakes :)

Re: I'm going to quit smoking.
I wish you the best of luck, and want to congratulate you for having the willpower to do this for yourself. :) You will do just fine!

Shellie, I mean this in the kindest way.
You may well need the support of others in this that are going through the same thing. Perhaps there's a group at school or your church if you go to one that you could join.
Nicotine is seriously addictive, as you know. Also, trading one addiction for another, as you so frequently see in the cult that is AA, is not necessarily good. If you set your sites on playing your cello and that doesn't work out for whatever reason, that failure could move you right back into the habit you're trying to quit.
Quit so you can run a mile in 7 minutes. Quit so your clothes and breath don't stink. Quit to save money. Quit for your own self esteem and the satisfaction of being in control of yourself. Quit to thumb your nose at the people and companies that are willing to kill you in a horrible fashion so they can spend your pennies. Quit so that if you have children they will be healthier and live longer. Be an example for those, once your success has been cemented, who wish to quit but think they can't.
And, if along the road you fail, get your butt, lol, off the ground and start over NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES IT TAKES until you succeed.
Do it for you. You don't have to do it alone.

My mom just quit smoking for the first time since I was born. She's been smoking since her teens, about ~30 years. The strangest thing was she didn't smell like smoke, but it was amazing.
I hope you succeed in quitting. As someone who breathed in second hand smoke til I was 16 years old, I say thanks :)

Good luck! Seriously! I know how hard it is. I've tried quitting twice now, and each time I went either 8-14 days before giving up :hmm: I really never thought it would be so difficult to quit something, I'd do anything to go back and tell myself never to start.

My quit day is Thursday! I've been smoking almost 25 years now. Wish me luck!!!!!

Re: I'm going to quit smoking.
The first 2-4 weeks were the hardest for me. I think today makes 2 months to the day, and now I barely have any cravings at all. The best part is I am starting to be able to take nice long, deep breaths without it hurting ;) Chantix worked pretty good for me this time.
And this might sound stupid, and even I still think it's ridiculous, but my wife is going on about 6 weeks now after being hypnotized. She quit so easily this time it really was unbelievable. And annoying.

I quit smoking in November 2010 during a conversation I mentioned that I had smoked 22 years! 22 YEARS I was in shock!! Im 34 and finally made the decision to just stop cold turkey! the first few days were hard and every day I said just one more day after the first 2 weeks I had it in my head that was it! IM NOT going back EVER! Im soo happy I did and even though some days I want to smoke its not a physical addiction anymore its mental and I control MY mind!!
If I can do anything to help please feel free to contact me My name is Tammy :) YOU CAN do it dont let anyone tell you that you cant!!
good luck to everyone in this battle to quit!
