    Balls Pythons at Wal-mart
I went to find a couple of tubs at Walmart and as I was looking a young boy about 13 in camouflage picked up two Sterlite 25qt tubs with locking lids. I couldn't resist so I asked what his tubs were for and he said for a couple of new snakes he got.

I told him I was there for the same things tubs for snakes and he pulled two snake bags out of his hoody and took out two really cute Ball Python Morphs. A beautiful Lemon Pastel, and a spider. It was awesome. :) We are taking over! Ball Pythons every where you go!

A very bad idea if somebody who hates snakes reports this. Not good publicity. Just like when people take them to the mall, or any other public place.

 Oh my gosh that's insane! I agree with the only at Wal-Mart!

As for the comment about it not being a smart idea, what do you expect when a parent lets some little boy in a store with snakes....Brilliant parenting, what's new.

I agree, but it sounds to me like this boy just got his snakes. I don't think it's wise to take snakes to public places, but in this case I think there might have been extenuating circumstances. I don't know what the weather is like in Kentucky, but here it is very cold. If I had just bought some snakes and I was given the choice between leaving them in the car or hiding them in my pocket, I would hide them. I would like to hope he wouldn't have taken them out if they hadn't been talking about snakes.

I'm not saying he's right, he should have had the materials he needed before he got the snakes (if it was theorized scenario above), but we shouldn't make judgment calls without all the facts.

Yeah it was only 44 degrees here today and that was before the sun went down. I think he only had them in there to keep them warm until he got them home and settled. Plus there was no one else around when he took them out. the pole was blocking the aisle on one side and the three of us was blocking the view of the rest. I don't think he would have taken them out if were weren't both talking about them.

    lol, funny...

But I will say my stomach churned reading this title before I knew what the thread was about, I know walmart sells fish and I know how horribly they care for them(especially their bettas, disgraceful.) so I was like, they BETTER not have decided to sell ball pythons in their 'pet' department! :O

    So thank goodness! :D

Lol, I had the same thought when I saw the title. On a side note, I don't think I've ever seen a well cared for betta at a pet store, let alone walmart. They're all gray and sickly looking in Petsmart and a local pet store I've been in a lot. I don't think people think about but betta are a tropical fish and do better when the water is a little warmer.

True, but some local fish stores do a little better..not many though. That's why I bought my baby boy from a breeder, even if it was quite a bit of money in shipping! He is quite comfortable now at home in his 5 gallon tank :D

omg this is just too funny! When I first got my BP I had to go to wal-mart to pick up a few things on the way home. (I live in the middle of no-where so going to wal-mart is a once a week trip.) Anyway the pet store girl gave me a snake bag and told me to just keep him in my purse and everything would be okay. So I did and everything was okay...until I had to pay for my stuff. I have a small purse, and I had to take the snake out to get to my wallet. Well he had been really, really still so I figured if I just hurried I could set him up on the little check-writting spot and the cashier would never know. Yeah...apparently Dante decided to wake up and stretch really big. I felt so bad, the lady freaked out on me and wouldn't let me explain. I tried appologizing over and over, but she said she was calling security so I had to run out of the store. Having snakes is cool, but I learned that they don't belong in main-stream public places. To many people are afraid of them. :(

I'm pretty sure it's not legal to take any animal into any store that sells food,
at least that's the laws here

we see people in walmart all the time with balls wrapped around there wrists wearing them like bracelets. It seems to be kind of a fashion thing around here. Usually most people dont even notice it. I dont really agree with it I feel that theres alot of people that are terrified of snakes and we should respect them by keeping our pets away from them just like they should respect us for wanting to keep them. But its still not as bad as when you see someone walking down the street with a burm wrapped around there neck...in the middle of the winter!

I take my snakes to the pet store every chance I get! It's the best place for some education, and you would be amazed how much I have taught (and learned).

But to walmart? Probably not. I've thought about it a few times, but would they let me bring my dog in? No. So, I should leave my pets at home when grocery shopping. Way too many people I think.

I've taken snakes on food trips through the drive through. Now that is fun.

I should add, there is only one pet store I will take my snakes to. I am good friends with them, and I trust them. They take awesome care of their reptiles.

I couldn't have said it better. As much as I'd love to take my snakes around and try to use them for education, there really are some people who will never be comfortable around them, and will always see them as threatening. I just wouldn't want to worry about someone flipping out and trying to call authorities on me or something, too much hassle and I wouldn't want to feel like I'm forcing anything on anyone. I think the best way to educate others is with scheduled programs or something similar, where they already have the understanding that the snake is going to be there and willingly approach it, not walking around the aisle of a store to find a snake in their face. Also, the only place I might ever take my snakes to would be a good pet store that I felt comfortable with and they knew me, etc. That's just me though.

In any case, I still think this story is pretty awesome haha I would probably be just as excited if I met someone else who was buying tubs for snakes, especially in a wal-mart in my area. It doesn't sound like you were waving the snakes around the store, and you were aware of people that might walk by, so I don't think there's anything wrong with it. As long as the kid didn't keep the bps out for too long, and made sure he got them home and warmed up asap, I'd say it sounds like a pretty fun day!! :D

Unless that animal is a certified service animal (says the gal with a service dog laying at her feet waiting to go out for dinner).

The same thought crossed my mind when I read the title! I was very pleased to read that Robin had a cool encounter with a fellow herper instead!

I've taken Ramses to the mall before, but only during the summer when it's warm enough. And I don't take him to the food court, and if someone is afraid of snakes, I respect that and stay away from them, then try to explain to them from a distance that there's no reason to be afraid XD

I also took him to school on the last day last year. My school is a marine biology academy, and we've got an iguana, a leopard gecko, and several dozen turtles throughout the building, so bringing a snake in wasn't that big a deal. In fact my Spanish teacher found him incredible, and my history teacher tried to run off with him and I had to chase him down. XD My leopard gecko also came to school, but that was for a presentation I had to do on leopard geckos, so I suppose that's different.
