Okay guys, it's time for a new piercing...
You may have seen my other thread about piercings before travelling. I heeded your advice, didn't have anything done before Costa Rica. Well, now I'm back, and I've narrowed my decision down to either a septum piercing or a labret off to the left side of my lip. I need your help choosing!

me being over tired and amused by Two and a Half Men in Costa Rica:

and me on a boat, in Costa Rica (I'm the one in the middle with the grey sweater):

I don't know which would look better, or which would be best for me. Basically, my only concern is that the labret would obstruct my articulation (I'm a singer, so I need to be able to articulate)

I think you should do whichever one you want to do. Everyone is going to have their own personal preference, and I don't think any will help you decide. It's a personal decision. You are going to have people say why get a peircing when you are already pretty. my personal preference would be the lip peircing. I don't imagine it would obstruct your dialect at all, obviously at first it will, but once it heals it won't. I have my tongue peirced, and I don't have any issues whatsoever with speaking. So good luck with your decision.

    exactly^^

I have my tongue pierced too, after deciding not to get my lip done ( only reason I changed my mind was because I was getting it done at my friends house and I had to hide it haha) but I dont think that after it heals you will have any problem with articulation.

    Denial
I have my labret done and the right side of my lip done. And just be sure its something you want forever because even if you take them out people will always tell it was pierced. I have not worn my labret in 4 years and can still put a ring through it and I only wear my right side every couple of weeks.

    Older guy warning...

Septum, I have watches many students get everything possible pierced. If there is a chance that the labret will effect your singing why risk that. Also labrets sometimes cause teeth/gum issues.

As a personal note the labret feels odd, it breaks the symmetry of the face and is a touch off putting and two balanced I just don't like the look of. No offence to anyone, I just think it takes a special person to pull off that look not everyone can.

I don't like the look of any lip piercings, ESPECIALLY anything that gives an asymmetrical feel to the mouth area. I look at it and just want to say "hey, you've got a little something there, need a napkin?" *points to side of mouth*

This may not help you at all, but I kinda agree w/ both LGray23 and kitedemon's statement. First off, Im not against any piercing or whatsoever, Im actually fascinated w/ people having different kinds of piercings, but Im more of a tattoo person. Now back to you. :) This is kinda cheesy but you have a pretty face, and honestly, I cant imagine it having any piercing at all. So my vote, either no piercing or maybe a lil less obvious like a nose or tongue maybe?

Septum, you can always flip it out of the way. :P

Just another option I don't know if you have thought about it or not but,.. Surface Piercings. It doesn't have to be facial unless you want it to be.

First off... Costa Rica rocks! I went 1.5 years ago and had the most enjoyable time. Secondly and on to the question at hand... I'm all for piercings and have my ears gauged (12 years ago before it was trendy) but those two are terrible piercings IMO. You're very pretty and I personally don't think they are fitting on you. Septum piercings just look silly and the off center lip is so commonplace nowadays. Just my $.02... :) Good luck with whatever you decide! As long as you are happy that's all that matters!

    Kind Regards,

    B

I was cinsidering getting a nape piercing (with the surface bar, not implants) but considering I used to have my eyebrow pierced and how much of a hassle it was trying to make sure it didnt get disturbed and start to reject (which it eventually did thanks to my friend, but it was an accident) I really dont think surface piercings are for me. They're too delicate, if you know what I mean.

I am about as ambivalent as it gets regarding piercings. Don't have any myself but to each their own. You're a pretty girl and if you like to sing, why risk that? Have you thought about a tattoo? That's a lot more personal in that you can make it anything you want, as opposed to a piercing that might be a bit "run of the mill" in that a good number of people have them, as opposed to a one-of-a-kind bit of ink; the flip side, a tattoo can be a lot more permanent than can some piercings.

Just a thought, as it's obviously entirely up to you and there's pros and cons to both. Whatever you decide, decide for YOU and enjoy! Good luck choosing! :gj:

I have been considering a tattoo but the problem is that although I have a vague idea of what I want to do I havent found the right artist to nail down the details with, and most of the good shops in my area will not tattoo anyone under 18, no matter if they have consent or not, so I'm kind of stuck on that front for now...

I agree, get whatever you want more. I currently have 6 (2 ears, navel, vertical labret, nose, and tongue) and the only "side effect" from any of them is from the vertical labret.. I lost the ability to whistle lol.. but I doubt a side lip piercing would affect your singing.

I'd say the labret too.. I've seen people with their septum pierced and personally I don't really think it looks very attractive.

I have my septum and I got snakesbites done a few months ago. (Two lip piercings, one on each side of the lower lip)

My only problem with the lips is that the metal of my studs clicks against my teeth sometimes. It shouldn't be a bother with your singing, sound-wise, BUT! Until you are used to the lip piercings and adjust how your lower lip moves, the backing of the jewelry (if you have studs) can hook on your lower teeth. If you make a lot of facial expressions while singing you might snag them until you can adjust. I don't know, but one lip piercing might be easier than getting two done at once. ;]

Anyways! After all of that- I vote for septum. It'd be cute. Use a smaller nose-ring, captive or horseshoe and it will look more dainty and feminine. Mine isss 3/8 I believe. I had a 1/4 and it was too small. That's my personal preference after having one a few years.

septum nose is not good for pretty grlz like you, the labret in lip would be better, i would suggest a little diamond or diamondlike stone in it.

I don't know if you already decided or not but here's my two cents...

I have both and I like them both a lot. They are two of my favorite piercings. I find them both attractive and enjoy the vast jewelry selection available. After the initial healing time the lip piercing won't impede your speech much at all. Occasionally I'll bite down in a strange way and catch it making a metallic sound or pulling on my lip but this is rare. A lot of people will tell you that septum piercings are ugly or "cow-like" but I personally find them aesthetically appealing also unlike the lip piercing you can easily flip them up or wear a plug in them to keep them hidden. You don't have that luxury with labrets. I've eaten my fair share of retainers...
As for surface piercings I've had my fair share of experiences with microdermal anchors as well as a surface bar. Both are very pretty and have lots of options for colored or jeweled ends. Sadly though depending on your choice of placement you can end up losing the piercing. Micros though can end up being more "permanent" if they heal as intended. They can be removed it's just not exactly painless. No matter what make sure that you go to a piercer who knows what he/she is doing. There's nothing worse than a poorly done surface piercing...or any piercing for that matter.

Opinions aside though with piercings, tattoos or any other body modification it really does come down to what YOU want. You're the one that is going to have this on her body so you need to decide for you. Good luck and enjoy your new bling!! :)
