I'm going to miss you more than anything in the world....
Our family dog, whose a German Shepherd/Australian Shepherd mix named Max, is being put down tomorrow (Thursday, March 3).

I've had him my entire life, and I'm only two months older than him. He's 15 years old, pretty long time for a dog.

It's devastating, but it's time. He has arthritis in his tail bone so he can't get up without help from us. He also is having accidents a couple times a day more or less.

I've never had to let go of something so close to me, and it sucks.:tears:

Thanks for reading, anything is much appreciated:). Thanks again.

I am sorry about this. There is nothing worse than losing a beloved pet that you have grown up with.

I remember how I felt when my parent had to put down my dobie. They had him a year before I was born, and lived until I was 15 also. He was my best friend, and went everywhere with me. I can't explain how hard it was for me to let him go....

I had to go through that when I was 14, our dog was 2 months older than me. It does hurt, no words can really make you feel any better. Just know it was time. feel for ya.

I'm terribly sorry, that sounds absolutely devastating:(. Dobermans are amazing dogs for sure.

My mom owned a Doberman for 14 1/2 years, and I believe he was still around for maybe a couple months after I was born. Then we got Max when he was around 5 months old.

Couldn't have said it better. Dogs definitely have a huge impact on our lives.

As animal lovers, the unfortunate side to our lives is losing those that we've cared for (and have also cared for us). I went through the same situation as you... take heart in knowing that you've given him a life well worth living.

Thank you so much. Losing a beloved pet feels like losing a family member, which they are.

Thank you. Cancer?? That's so sad I'm sorry:(. Black labs are such sweet dogs too.. My other dog is a Lab/Chow mix and he hangs out with me all day long when I'm home.

So sorry to hear that you have to go thru this. Always remember that you and your family gave him 15 wonderful years of happiness. He will always be in your hearts and memories.

He will go join all the other animals that have passed to the other side at the Rainbow Bridge where he will wait to be reunited with you again some day.

I have a 10 year old boxer who has cancer and I treasure every single day I have with her because I just don't know how much longer she will be with me.

    My prayers are with ya.

I think pets (Dogs especially) become more than just pets. They become a family member. They are there to greet you when you come home or sit by the window and watch you the whole time as you leave.
When that day comes when there is no alternative and you have to agree to put down your dog or whatever pet for that matter, there whole life with you flashes right before your eyes. You think about all the good times and all the bad times but usually laugh about the bad times like when they ate your new shoes and how mad you were then but how trivial it is now.....

The pain of losing them is so intense at first but trust me, time does heal all wounds. Good luck to you and your family.

To update you guys, he was put down this morning a little while after I left school. I was so busy this morning to get ready and go to the bus that I didn't even pet him or give him a kiss goodbye.. I feel so bad..

When he was taken there I was told he was shaking although he never normally does, and peed on my dad when he was unloading Max from the car.

Maybe that's a little TMI but just had to tell. Thank you guys for the nice posts, prayers, and wishes. I really do appreciate it.

    The Rainbow Bridge Poem

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Im really sorry :(. My families Black Lab/sheppard mix had to be put down a couple years ago now. He was about the same age as yours. I watched him come into this world and watched him leave. One of the hardest things I have ever had to see, but I was glad I was with him. It still brings tears to my eyes sometimes, but I try to remember all the good times we had together. He was such a gentle soul, and is missed dearly.

That must've been so difficult for you I'm sorry:(.

I couldn't see my life without a dog even though I have so many herps.

My lab mix, Buddy, was very depressed over what had happened. He was pacing around all last night, whimpering, and putting his paws on me. But I gave him a long walk today and brushed him out, I even went to the store and bought him a new collar, tag, and a squeeky ball toy that he loves to play fetch with in the house LOL.

I also had to stay home from school today. My dad took me to lunch though and we talked which made me feel a whole lot better.

My parents got a dog about two years before they had me (I was their first kid). My grand mom never allowed my mom to have a dog as a kid so it was a really big deal. That dog ended up out-living my mom, and when my dad remarried my step mom got really close to her as well. It was really nice. At that point in time the dog was about 15, Patience, our toy poodle. She ended up dieing of old age in my step moms arms. We were going to take her to be put to sleep the next day because we didn't want her to suffer anymore. She was old, and blind and deaf and was just not having a good quality of life anymore. She let us know when it was time to go, and animals almost always will; especially cats and dogs.

I still have her collar and tags, I was pretty close to that dog and I still think about and miss her. My parents current dogs are getting pretty old and I'm starting to worry about them.. but I suppose thats an issue for another day.

Always remember all the good times you had with Max. Keep a favorite toy of his or his collar to remind you of him.

    I'm sorry for your loss.

What a wonderful dog she must've been, I'm so sorry to hear about her and your mother:(. Dogs are the best pets period on the planet, and the fact that they actually care about us is incredible.

We do in fact have his collar, as well as my mom's Doberman's collar she used to have 15 years ago. Thank you very much:).

Our other dog is 7 years old and he's very attached to me, he pretty much stays with me all day long when I'm home. Now I realize that time goes by so fast so I'm trying to bond with him even more because he also is an amazing dog.

I have to watch this other dog he used to live with for 2 years (it was my sister's dog but now a family friend whose out of town until tomorrow has her) so I'm taking my dog with me to go play with her and spend time with her so he doesn't feel lonely while I'm gone. I'll have to take some photos them and post them later :).
