Bp,Relaxing with head out of hide?
My ball python has been just sitting in it's hides with it's whole body in but the head is out of the hide,is that a bad sign? She also keeps switching from cool to warm but she is spending most time on the cool side, just sitting with her head out, i also caught her laying with her head perked on the water bowl(not in it) and she was looking out of the enclosure. Is that a bad sign or typical bp behavior if so why is she doing that? Also she just started doing it this morning.
Off topic question,
This question does not go too much with this thread, but my ball python for somereason what ever hide i put her in she goes into the opp hide,so if i sit her down next to the warm side hide she goes in and comes right back out and goes to the cool side and she does the same when i place her on the cool side, and she always waits until i put the lid on the tub then she makes the move,is she trying to give me the slip or something?
Thanks all comments/post are welcomed.

Most of mine do this.... I think they just want to see what is going on in the real world....

Re: Bp,Relaxing with head out of hide?
Yup, mine's doing that right now actually haha It doesn't seem like any kind of abnormal behavior to me. They still feel "hidden" and protected with their body inside of the hide, but they can observe what's going on in their environment. It might even be how they ambush their prey sometimes.
As far as her going to the opposite hide when you put her down, it could be that she feels like she has to get as far away from the "big, scary thing that picked me up" as possible. That's just a guess though. I wouldn't worry about it that much, but it would be interesting to find out exactly what they're thinking sometimes :)

I get home from work every day, and my girl almost always has her head sitting at the edge of her hide. I always thought she was just hanging out, checking out her surroundings! Either way, the minute I get near her tank, shes quick to duck back into her hide. ;)

Same thing with mine: He has his head out a lot of times, but the rest of him is in the hide. Also rests his head on the water bowl, or the small branch (shedding aid) I have in there for him. Perfectly normal, near as I can tell.

Mine only hangs out in her hides when no one is in the room.
If I am in the room? She usually comes out and hangs out on a rock in the corner of her cage where she can stare at me while I use my computer. Normally she'll just sit there, watching me until I leave again.

Nope, I got the heat rock from my flatmate who had it from a iguana he had ~10+ years ago. I cut the cord off it and use it simply to give her something else to sit on in the tank.

Lol. I think your half log is a little huge. They don't offer much security. I bet if you put something smaller in there, she wouldn't try and squeeze between the glass and that rock.

That's actually where she goes when I leave the room. On the cold-side I have a cardboard box that's half the size and she rarely uses it. Now I have noticed that she will sometimes push the box on its side so it casts a shadow, and will sometimes hang out in the shadow.

Got home from work, and here's how she was hangin out. I thought it was too cute, so I had to snap a pic and post it. :D
