Any readers out there?
If so, what is you favorite book, author, and what are you currently reading.
My favorite book is When the Wind Blows by James Patterson. My favorite author is Kathy Reichs, and I am currently reading The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson.
-
For me it's John Sanford, Patricia Cornwell & Laura K Hamilton, currently re-reading The last precinct
-
As dorky as this is, the Harry Potter series I couldn't put down. I'm currently reading Witch & Wizard by James Patterson. I also loved Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom and The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. Very good books.
-
I haven't been able to read much for pleasure since college started, but I'm always a sucker for Tolkien

Re: Any readers out there?
Sucker for pure escapism here.
Fave authors would be Terry Pratchett, David Eddings, Robert rankin, Ursula K Le Guin, Tom Holt.
Currently (re)reading "Para Handy Tales" by Neil Munro.
All time most re-read book would be A wizard of Earthsea.
Close second would be the Brentford novel series.
Basically if it makes me smile or laugh I am likel to go back to it time and time again.

I've read the Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy. Great read that the movie dosent do justice. Another trilogy that is well written and has a poor film counterpart is Robert Ludlums Bourne trilogy! If you like those you will love Van Lusterbaters' Bourne books which pick up after the original Ludlum books.

Re: Any readers out there?
I am currently reading "The pocket book of Joesph Campbell" and book 5 of the teen series Septimus Heap. I love fantasies and find the teen ones are simple and interesting reads!
My favorite author is Agatha Christie.
-
I like anything Sci-Fi.
Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Anne Rice, etc.
My all time favorite book ? Oh lord I can't possibly pick one, there is just no way.
Currently reading the Time-Life Enchanted World Series. Picked up the 15 book set off Ebay in near perfect condition for under $8 a book!

Re: Any readers out there?
I'm a huge Stephen King fan and have been since the first book of his I read, which actually was the first book I had ever read just for fun. Also love Dean Koontz and have read about 10 of his books so far.

I'm not ashamed to admit I was the same way with Harry Potter when I started reading the series. I had already seen the first 4 movies by the time I picked up the first book, but that made me appreciate the writing that much more.
The Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan was fun. I don't know if they're planning on making any more of the series into movies, but if they do, I doubt I'll watch. The first movie left out so much and changed some major details of the plot, so that kinda ruined it for me.
I also bought my son the Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull. If you are into that fantasy genre, I highly recommend it. I read them before I gave them to him and I think I might have to read them again now that he's finished. :gj:

Re: Any readers out there?
Patterson, allways good
Sidney Sheldon he's not around any more but his book were allway great reads.
King, I like early King better
John Sandford, Got a new one coming out May 10 Buried Pray.
Clive Cussler - before he started writing with his son, Now hes a little dry
I read all the time, wife got me a sony reader for X-mas, seem to make me read faster.

I don't have much time to read anything besides textbooks lately, but I am a big bookworm at heart. I can read just about anything you put in front of me, too. Hands down though, John Grisham is my favorite author. I love anything to do with the legal system, and I've always said if I wasn't going to be a teacher, I'd go into law. It totally fascinates me :D

I'm on the last book of the Dark Tower series right now!! :D I love it so much!! Stephen King is definitely one of my all time favs, and he's tied with Ray Bradbury. The Martian Chronicles and Fahrenheit 451 are amazing. I also love 1984 by George Orwell, A Slaughterhouse-5 by Kurt Vonnegut, the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik, The Alien Chronicles by Deborah Chester and The Hobbit of course.
I'm a big sci-fi/fantasy nerd in case you couldn't tell :P

Re: Any readers out there?
I'm a total bookworm, but I'm not sure if I could choose one favorite haha. I love Shakespeare, Orwell, Steinbeck, etc. I'm really into horror/thriller/murder mystery, although genre doesn't matter to me, I'll read and enjoy anything that's good. I am one of those nerds who can't stop talking about Harry Potter and has read all the books many times. I also read a lot of poetry, short stories, and nonfiction. If I absolutely had to choose a favorite book though, it would probably be Misery by Stephen King. :D

Really? How are you liking it so far? I just finished The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo this weekend and really enjoyed it; I think Larsson is a great writer. I'm thinking about checking out the sequels, but I'm always hesitant about sequels to good books.

Re: Any readers out there?
I'm into the classic authors. Like H.G. Wells, Jules Verne, Emily Bronte, Alexandre Dumas. However Tolkien is the man. I've read most of his books. The books are far better than the movie. But I do like the movies as well.
-
Haven't gone out and gotten new books in a long time. However my three favorite series are the Eragon series by Christopher Paolini, The Maximum Ride series by James Patterson, and the Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan. They're all pretty easy to read but they keep me entertained.
I think I have 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 of the Ranger's Apprentice, read the three Eragon books that are currently out but only own the first, and own all of the Maximum Ride books. Haven't read all of Max, or started Fang. And my brother literally just walked in with Angel as I was writing this. I'm re-reading the series right now, and I'm currently in School's Out- Forever.
I love books <3

I have to disagree about the LOTR movies not doing the books justice. I think it's one of the best book to movie interpretations I've ever seen. No, it's not perfect, but the bits that got left out of the movies were mainly bits that were not crucial to the story.
Bourne, on the other hand, I 100% agree with you on. Phenomenal books, mediocre movies. The movies would get a solid B or B+ if they were just seen for themselves as spy/action movies, but they get a C- as translations of the books.
As far as favorite authors go, there are too many to list them all, but for starters, William Gibson, Neal Gaiman, Neal Stephenson, used to read a lot of Tom Clancy, as per my above comments, I like Tolkien and Ludlum.
Right now, I'm reading The System of the World by Neal Stephenson, and while it and the previous two books in its series are definitely long reads, they're quite good and engaging.

My favorite author is R.A. Salvatore. I love his writing. All of his books are my favorites. I am currently reading the dresden files by jim butcher. It is an awesome series.

I use to read alot but lately haven't had much free time. I like Nelson DeMielle. Author of the Generals Daughter, Plum Island, and alot of other great books. Also love Micheal Connely He wrote Blood Work and Chasing The Dime. I love action, mystery, suspense....The kind of books that keep you thinking the whole way through...Then slam you with a crazy twist at the end.

I'm in the same boat as you are. I used to read all the time before I started college, but it is tough now. I just started reading again lately though. I make sure all of my school work is done first though, so it takes me a while to get though a book. It will be finished with college in less than a year! I can’t wait.

I have never read Lisa Gardner, but I do love James Patterson, Stephen King, and Dean Koontz. My favorite by Stephen King is the Dark Tower series, and Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz.

Have you read Insomnia by Stephen King? That is a really good one.

I read the Hobbit and the first LOTR book, but never did read the last two. I have been planning on reading them, but never got the chance. I do love Robert Ludlums Bourne trilogy! Those were great books. Much better than the movies, as usual.

I love Anne Rice. I have read quite a few of her vampire series. I heard she is a Christian now, and is writing books about Christ’s early days. I haven’t read any though, but heard they are really good reads.

The Dark Tower series is amazing. I wish they would make a movie series out of them…

I love them, so far. I have seen all the movies, so I pretty much know what's going to happen, but they are still great. I was surprised how much they have left out of the second book, in the movie. The first hundred pages, or so, wasn't in the movie at all. From the movies, the Dragon Tattoo was my favorite, and most likely will be with the books, as well. They are very suspenseful and intriguing.

Although I haven't read the book, I loved the movie 2009 version of the movie Wuthering Heights. I have been planning on picking up the book.

If you like Maximum Ride, I highly suggest reading the first in the series, When the Wind Blows. It is by far the best in the series, IMO, and is my favorite book.

They are, actually! As it stands right now, the first one is set to be released in 2013 and Ron Howard is directing, which I'm not really sure how I feel about that =/ but sai King is basically going to be a producer of sorts and have final say on everything, so hopefully they will be amazing!!

I completely agree with this!! I absolutely LOVE the LotR trilogy, I own all of the extended editions and I've watched them a million times :D I'm super excited for The Hobbit too!!

I bought my wife a Kindle for Christmas and let her read one book on it before I kinda stole it from her. I found it makes me read faster too. The Kindle e-paper technology is really cool and easy on the eyes. Oh, and after 3 days of me holding her Kindle hostage, she made me buy my own.
I have The Dark Tower series loaded on there and ready to read next. That's another great thing about e-readers. I've got about 25 books loaded on mine right now. No lugging backpacks of books on vacation or finishing one book while not at home and having to wait to start the next in the series. Just load em up and go...

I was wondering about those. I tried to read an ebook on my IPhone, and it was too hard. The screen was too small. The Kindles are nice because they have a much larger screen. I was just wondering how easy they were on the eyes, so now I know. I am used to reading text on the net, but it does tend to hurt my eyes after a few hours. My last few classes in college, I go to college on the Internet, I have been printing out my course material. I have been getting less headaches since I started printing them.
You will love the Dark Tower series. It is very out there, but great nonetheless.

:P I have to agree, that series was amazing! That was actually the last book I've read, that wasn't for college at least. I was reading 100-200 pages every day of research papers, articles, and the most boring journals my professors could possibly find. I still haven't had the urge to pick up a book and I graduated in December. I used to be a big reader! Someday I'll enjoy reading again! :please:

Thanks. My sister has a IPad, and she reads on it. She seems to like it very well.

I know what you are saying. I have to read close to 150 pages this week of Java programming. I like programming, but reading line after line of code can get pretty boring. It is tough to pick up a book after all that reading, but I do still read when I can. It definitely takes me a lot longer to read now since I started school.

My favorite book is "Commerce Through Community". The book was co-wrote by Orrin Woodward (#7 leadership expert in the world) and Chris Brady (#12 leadership expert in the world)!!
The book im reading now is "Personality Plus" by Florence Littauer

Re: Any readers out there?
I think there's nothing better than cracking the spine of a new book, the smell of the printed pages :D This is why I protest the digital book-readers LOL
It's difficult for me to find books that grab my attention, though. By far, my favorite author is Dean Koontz.. I have a collection of about half of the books he's written so far, from some of the first he wrote under a different name to the newest ones. He's an incredible thriller, suspense author. My favorite book of all time is The Watchers by Dean Koontz.. oh my god, I can't tell you how amazing that book was, I didn't want to put it down once I started.
-
I love to read and agree with you Kymberli, about the electronic readers not having quite the same impact, lol! The latest book I'm reading is: In Darkest Africa: Or the Quest, Rescue, and Retreat of Emin Governor of Equatoria, by Henry M. Stanley. It's a bit heavy-handed in some of the "attitude" that's presented towards people, as it was written during Britain's colonial days and as such reflects the attitudes of the time but as far as content and what took place during his expedition...wow!
