Calling all ghost experts!
I got this guy from someone that was getting rid of their collection. Any thoughts on type of ghost with this guy? The previous owner got him on ks and knows he's a ghost but lost on type. I'm sure not orange ghost but I'm lost on the other types.
Thanks in advance

How big is he? I've seen adult Orange Hypos that looked like him.
He is very nice looking. You will probably have to breed him to find out what type he is.
-
Well I cam certainly NOT good at the guessing game but what about Mohave ghost??
-
Looks orange ghost to me but we can never be sure of the line w/o the assurance of the breeder. Just like in pastels, we can never determine if its a lemon, graziani or any other line by simply relyin on its appearance. I love how it retained the color on its head, great pick up !

When I traded my pastel, the guy knew it was a Graziani!! I was so surprised lol! But 9 times out of 10 I'm sure its impossible haha

Awsome pickup! :gj:
Although i have no idea what type of ghost he could be. Sorry

Re: Calling all ghost experts!
If he's older I'd say he looks like an Orange Ghost to me, but if he's younger I might lean more towards Yellow Ghost (but you don't see many of them around, so I doubt it)
-
each line of pastels have certain traits that the breeder knows. i'm sure there are very small (some large) signals that say what line it is. i don't know many lines of ghosts, but hey a ghosts a ghost =p

Re: Calling all ghost experts!
yeah, but still! There are sooo many variations, and I'm sure you can find those markings on all pastels if you looked hard enough. He was probably guessing lol!!

Re: Calling all ghost experts!
The color can refer to a line but it also simply refers to the color. what color does it look to you? call it that. but in reality it doesn't matter, its like lemon, bell or w/e pastels. all it is is just a name

He's an adult 5 years old. Really beautiful too. He was just kinda thrown into the package bc he was a problem feeder. Hadn't eaten for 6 months at that point, and the guy was like ahhh ya he's a ghost nothing special. I think he has a really cool acid wash look to him. Plus I'm always up for a challenge. Turns out he wasn't a challenge at all bc the very next day he ate a md rat no problem. Sooo I don't know what that was about. I'm interested in potentially doing honey bees and I was under the impression that it takes an orange ghost to complete the desired affect. I'm happy to keep him either way. But since the guy had no clue I was wondering if there were any hue clues that maybe I'm not catching with him. I've also noticed that the o. Ghosts have a really orangey tint to them. But I've seen butterscotch, blue, orange, and green hypos so I didn't know if there was something specific each line had or if im totally over thinking. If anyone could clarify or if I'm making things way to complex let me know. Thx

Re: Calling all ghost experts!
I hate how there sooo many lines of Hypo!! I still think they all look pretty similar blue, brown, purple, green, or w.e color there is haha.

Basically when you see "butterscotch" or "green" or "orange" in front of Ghost or Hypo, it just means that that's the tint it's got. You hit the nail on the head with the orange comment, that's exactly how it goes.
-
Now don't take this as set in stone because I attempted to research what exactly goes on. I have no hands on experience.
Orange, yellow, butterscotch are all the standard normal hypo, color describing the tint the animal has.
green seem to be up in the air, someone claimed they have successfully bred a green to a standard hypo and proved them compatible but a lot of other info says they are not compatible. so i don't know if there are different lines of green hypo? i found it hard to get answers
everyone seems to be in agreement that blue hypo is not compatible and is its own morph.
-
Yeah, I've heard some ghost lines weren't compatible as well, so it could potentially matter what line he is. I'm no good with ghosts, so I can't say anything more than that.

incompatible lines seem to be so rare, you'd hit the jackpot finding out you had a different line and made double hets. frustrating at first but id like that to happen lol

Re: Calling all ghost experts!
Nice looking ghost you got :gj: looks a lot like my adult male orange ghost, they tend to start out a lot more orange when they're a hatchling and get paler as they get bigger here's a pic of mine for a reference

You can always go to http://www.markireptiles.com/ leave him a message and a pic. He is all about the ghost gene and really knows his stuff. I guarantee you he will be able to nail it.
-
Great help guy thx so much! Bgdyl- my male looks quite similar to yours thanks for the pic! BpElizabeth I will definately do this I hope he can nail it. As then I will be able to fit him in my projects better! Thanks again guys.

Re: Calling all ghost experts!
You won't be able to tell what line it is by the way it looks, it is most likely either a Orange Ghost, a Yellow Ghost or a Butterscotch Ghost which ever one it is it doesn't matter to much as they are all compatible! :salute: We have over 30 Ghost/Ghost combos and all of them but one is an Orange Ghost the other one is a Yellow Ghost but it looks exactly the same as all of our others.
Hope that helps a little. :)

Personally I'd breed him to a bell line OG. As with many posters here, I agree he looks like your typical adult OG.
If you bred him to an OG and he turns out to be compatible -> win.
If he turns out to be incompatible, breed the double het offspring together(and pray for 1/16 odds to be in your favor), a dual hypo snake would probably be pretty cool -> win.

I had originally thought it wasn't blue or green as I've heard they are rare. But I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. I at least know which direction I'm going to go with Him.
