trying to figure out where to go for New Years....
Ok...well my hubby and I usually go somewhere for New Years with our Son. This year we have 4 days and we don't know what to do.
Here is the criteria...
We want to drive so no more than 12-14 hrs.....
We have our son 10 and then our "live in adopted kind of son"17.
Looked into vegas but quite frankly I have done vegas at new years and it was crazy fun but not a place for my 10 year old. Plus the good hotels are at least $350 a night. That is a little pricey for 3 nights for us right after christmas.
sooo....I am opening this up to you guys. Any suggestions? We are open to anything reasonable but cannot travel to Mexico due to my husbands job.
Re: trying to figure out where to go for New Years....
I would say Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. But you want to drive, so I would go with Cali too, and if you like the Winter sports, you can ski up in Northern Cali anyway, right? Best of both worlds if you enjoying driving along the coast :D!
Re: trying to figure out where to go for New Years....
how about disney land they have lots of cool new years festivities.

How about a quiet New Year's Eve in Yellowstone Park?

It's funny that you should mention this Lizzy because BG was trying to decide the same thing himself. BG isn't sure which fans around the world are going to be lucky enough for him to grace them with his presence.:D After freezing the BG perfect behind for the last couple of weeks, BG has decided that wherever it is....it's gotta be warm.:D
Re: trying to figure out where to go for New Years....
San Antonio is always lovely to visit at any time of year. I can't remember anything specifically spectacular about their New Year's though. Of course, my hubby and myself are homebodies that night. But definitely a very lovely city to visit. Seems like it might be a bit outside the driving range that you mentioned, but doable.
If I wanted a BIG party city, I'd probably aim for LA or San Diego. I agree that Vegas would not live up to its potential with children in tow. If I just wanted someplace different, and maybe not quite so crowded or intimidating as LA, I'd head for San Antone. :D
Re: trying to figure out where to go for New Years....
I too would suggest San Diego. Seems like a good choice to me!
Have Fun!

Which boardwalk are you referring to? We have a lot of them in this giant coastal state... :D

San Antonio is a good choice, I love the river walk.

BG had a "genius" idea for people like you. Then he gave it about 5 seconds more thought and realized that there are time zones in the world.
Everyone could have there own leeeetle time zone New Years party in BP-net chat. It may not be all that big with different time zones, but at least you won't be home alone doing nothing. You never know, BG might even pop into your leeeetle New Years chat party.
Since BG is pretty sure he's gonna be in a whole different time zone than anywhere in the US, it won't be such a big deal for him to stop in and make your life:D. If you've never done it....it's a whole different BG experience that everyone must do at least once in their life time.:D One thing is for sure. You'll never be the same. You may however need more meds than you're already on. BG takes no responsibility for that.:D It does give you a better understanding of Big Gunns and his complex(insane) personality. This is the closest thing you can do other than meeting him in person to help you "get" Big Gunns.:D Just in case BG can't make it....may he wish you all a Happy New Years right now.:gj:

Heh,
Of course if time and travel were no hinderance you could go to either the north or south poles and celebrate in every timezone just by staggering slowly round the pole.
You may need help for the latter stages of course. And possibly a bucket to be carried home in.

You better start making your New Years chat party invites right now. There's nothing worse than throwing a party that nobody goes to....that's what BG hears anyway.:D

I've never thrown a party that went un-attended, back in the good 'ole days.
Hahaha.
