My first Dinker!! ....Well...sort of...
Picked this gal up at a local pet shop in town. They do randomly carry one or two Pastels, and I've gotten a Spider from them before, but it's very rare for them to have morphs. This girl was grouped up with 3 other 'normals' for sale. At this time they did not have any other morph for sale.
When I first saw her I was %50 sure she was something other than normal. Now that I have her home and am able to look at her more closely I am %90 sure she's a Pastel.
BUT I'm calling it a dinker because the label was a normal =P, so I'll have to dinker around and breed to be %100 sure :D
Here are the pics! Thoughts?

Well i looks like a normal, but if it's a pastel, it's the lowest quality pastel i've ever seen. For being that young, she should not be that browned out. Good pickup though, for the right price i hope!!??

I thought "PASTEL!" the moment I saw the first picture. Nice little treasure you found! :gj:

Let's see those eyes :) (Pastels have green eyes)
Looks pastel to me from the way her coloring and belly is.

I agree that if she turns out to be pastel, it wouldn't be the best, and I almost typed that in this post =). I currently own a couple sub-adults that are super bright and she's nothing in comparison, but compared to 2 of my normals, the difference in her is crazy! And the price was welllll worth it. I would not have purchased if they did not have a sale!

Looks like a pastel to me, just very low quality.

Let's see the head! Looks like a lower quality pastel at first glance to me too though.

Pastel or not, raise her up and see what she produces! She is a hottie.

Pastel.. Alot of these stores get the normals that the big breaders produced and din't want to deal with.. can highly be a brown pastel that just got thrown in there..
that or it's one SUPER normal.. :)

Anyone should see the pastel in it. Low quality, but a good find none the less.:)

No question that it's a pastel. Congratulations!

You can see the green eyes if you look, so yes it's a pastel. Not the most amazing pastel, but a pastel nonetheless.

x2.
Pastel for sure, 100%.

I too say she looks like a dark pastel. She looks like a male that I have that is ch but until I breed him I can't say he's a pastel for sure. I would breed her to a high yellow pastel male then you should get some nice babies.
-
Breed her to a black pastel or cinni and see if you get pewters :D
-
Its pastel. Can tell by the browning ending by the white sides. Thats another give away without seeing eyes.
-
Yeah, I'm now pretty positive of the pastel fact. Again can't be 100% sure without breeding.
Lupe brought up a good point though. If I breed her to a cinnamon, will the Pewters be even darker then they normally are? Has anyone tried selective breeding with dark and light pastels to see the different it makes in the outcomes? I have seen dark and light Bees, and personally I love the really light yellow bees, but in something like a pewter where it's not about the yellow, I'm wondering if the dark pastel is the way to go.
Even going as far as a Savannah Pewter, Silver Streak, or Silver Bullet, will a dark Pastel in the mix darken them up? I think that might be even more striking. Just a thought.

I can't speak from experience in selective breeding these guys, but I can say that IMO, light versus dark pewters are no comparison -- the really good light ones almost look like a sterling, and the dark ones turn into solid brown snakes that almost look (to me) like a patternless BP as adults (AKA "Mr. Hankey ball" ...)
It'd be an interesting breeding experiment though -- although I'm inclined to agree that trying for super dark Savannahs might be a cooler project
Neat pickup either way -- not the best color, but I really like her banded pattern! :)
