What are some stupid things people have said you about snakes?

The title should say "what are some stupid things people have said to you about snakes?

a petstore that we visit frequently has some strange people come in their, the most interesting thing i think ive heard is "my snake loves me so much i let her stay in my bed and she loves to be kissed on her head". i'd like to know how these people come up with that they know their snakes like to be held those are the idiots

I cant stand people when they say "my snake loves kids".

Its yellow and that means its poisoness :rofl::rofl::rofl:,this was refering to my albino burm

I told someone I was getting another ball python and they were like "But aren't you worried they'll gang up on you and suck your blood while you sleep?"

I was speechless for a good ten minutes because of the stupidity of that comment.

I get, "What if they eat your cats?" a lot.

My pet peeve is when someone says that snakes are poisonous.

I understand that there are many people that have very little interaction with any animal beyond a dog, cat, bird, or fish. I do my best to not be irritated and just try to pass on a little information about snakes. Hopefully, the other party leaves better educated, and less fearful of exotic pets.

lol My funniest one is my grandmother for years would say get rid of the snakes and get a girlfriend. I meet a girl and now she saying loose the girlfriend and keep the snakes ( cause she not a local girl I guess) The best part was when I told her I was talking to a girl and she likes snakes.

I not sure how many times i came back to my grandmothers house cutting grass with a couple snakes and ask for a pillow case to put them in. lol Best time was when asking forbutter knives to remove one and she freakign all out that it was venomous and every ready to call 911 lol.. I was laughing so much I it took 10 minutes to remove the little grater snake

When I told a guy that I work with that I purchased my first ball python, he exclaimed, "Man, aren't you afraid it's going to eat your dog?" I replied with..."My dog is 110 lbs, if my little ball python eats my dog, my dog is an idiot"

And I should've said so was he for asking :)

How many times have you got salmonella? Will you get warts from touching them?

Probably reptile enthusiasts saying really pretentious things about other people's lack of knowledge about reptiles. ;)

I told my grandmother I was getting another snake (note, I hadn't even mentioned what kind), and immediately she goes, "Why on EARTH would you do that?" as though I said I was gonna shoot her dog or something. Then she says "What are you going to do when it eats your dog?" Note, this snake was a hatchling rat snake about the size of a pencil, and my dog is a 50 lb pit bull.

One time I brought my python into the mall and a guy started talking to me about how he slept with a Burmese python every day, and how he put up a foot of plywood around the bed so it couldn't get out. Then he told me how he and his friends blew pot smoke in the poor thing's face. I was so relieved when he told me that snake had died.

The only thing that ever has really pissed me if is this guy once asking, "do snakes, EXCITE, you?" as if there was some sort of sexual arousal associated with having a ball python.

Actually, if you believe it or not, there are a lot of people who believe that people who own snakes are sex predators or sexual deviants. Maybe that comes from some of the pornographic photos that have snakes posed with the women, I absolutely could not tell you, but unfortunately there are a lot of uneducated people out there.

My snake seems reasonably tolerant of kids? And isn't so shocked by the experience that it won't still eat a mouse afterward?

Most of the weird things I've heard from my Mom, including the bit about slimy-ness and worrying that my bps will eat our (60 and 75 lb.) dogs. Also she had nightmares for the first year that my snakes would break out of their cages and strangle me or my husband in our sleep.

(What actually ended up happening: they broke out of their cages, one of them climbed up to the booze and started knocking wine glasses off the sideboard, one of them climbed the stairs (!), and the other was too lazy to bother leaving her hide. So, so typical.)

first one needed a drin kthe second was looking for a better cage the the 3rd onewas why waste the effort I be back in here before the week is up lol..

I had one crawl in bed with me once ( had to treat the cages and I forogt ot let air out afterward( used a strong chemical that used to kill all kinds of bugs I got from an exterminator) so I place the smale ones in pillow cases and let the boa run loose. Well at 2-3 am a cold snake crawling up between the covers and against my bare leg almost cause me to need a dry bed. I was suddenly awaken by this cold heavy thing between my knees and it was moving higher lol.

All these posts about what our moms think are cracking me up. I got my first bp with my mom 19 years ago. When she died almost two years ago, I took him. But reading this also made me think of this silly dream my boyfriend had about how he accidently let all my snakes out. He was chasing them down the road and he remembered being very upset and thinking "Oh no! Courtney's gonna kill me!" hehehe Just wanted to share.

The lamest thing I've had said to me personally though would be "Don't they bite you?" and "Aren't you scared of them?"

I've heard most weird things from my dad. It'll strangle you, Where are you going to keep it when it's 20 feet long, It's slimy and gross, etc. Oh, and my favorite - Aren't you affraid it'll eat all your dogs??? ....I have 6 large dogs - 4 German Shepherds and 2 others and they all range around 60-75 lbs. That would be one big ball python....

People on facebook always have a comment for me about my snake because I have some pictures up and I always make comments about my snake in my status. People are like, don't you know that snakes are evil, and I also get the how can you have a snake for a pet. I also get comments about whether or not the snake bites or tries to attack me.

Funniest snake conversation I've had... Was talking with a woman in a "job interview" sort of setting.

She asked me, "Where do you see yourself in five years? What's your biggest dream?"

I answered, "Seriously, in five years, I'd like to be breeding snakes and have my own business."

She blinked hard and looked confused...then asked, "How in the world do you breed snakes?"

With a perfectly straight face, I answer, "Well, you put the boy snake with the girl snake..."

She had a very chagrined laugh at that. :D And then we had a pleasant conversation about why snakes make such great pets.

Yea. I think the main one for me is "Is it poisonous?" I usually say "No, its not venomous either." I get "is that a real snake?" a lot also. Uhm, no fricking duh its a real snake. I usually don't even know what to say.

I've had someone even deny that my Cal king wasn't "poisonous". They said their uncle or something was bitten by one of those "things" and died. HAHAHa bull-you know what.

I HATE when I tell my fiance's family (who are VERY religious, and we are not) that we keep snakes, and they tell us "Snakes are the devil, snakes are evil, the bible says so, Adam and Eve were deceived by them..."

One time I told them "Look my balls in the eyes and tell them they're evil."...they got more confused. I don't think they knew what to think, since I'm a girl and they clearly didn't understand my snake reference. :P

My gf and I get "oh pythons are the ones that bite" and "is that a snake?" Course the one that gets asked the most is "are they poisonous?" So for that one we named our two dumerils Poisonous and Venomous so we can say "this one is venomous...THAT one is poisonous"

My gfs boss told her the next time someone asks are they poisonous reply "I don't know I haven't eaten one yet"

I get "Aren't those the ones running around in the everglades?", "Do you let them crawl around your house?", "You have snakes? I killed a (insert snake name here), because it was (insert ridiculous statement here)."

I take a deep breath and begin the process of trying to educate the masses. :) I would say about half the people I talk to walk away with a better understanding of ball pythons.

Just Saturday I was at a party and someone labeled me as "the guy who has a lot of snakes". A lady approached me later in the night and said "are you the one with all the snakes?" I had never met her before and laughed and told her I had lizards too.

The next thing out of her mouth was "you're not going to let them go outside are you? It's a big problem all over the US."

One guy at work also said "What are you going to do when it's too big to live in your house?" GAH

Everything else is people telling me lame made up stories about snakes. Even when I explain to them how the situation could never come about, they don't want to hear it and just call me crazy.

@SpartaDog, I doubt that guy even had a snake. No 1' barrier could contain a snake, especially a Burmese. He was probably just trying to sound cool and failed.

not only that why is it when you tell some one you have snakes there first recation is that there runing around the house and not in cages:confused::confused::confused:

That it's perfectly okay to keep up to 5 ball pythons in the same 10 gallon glass tank, as long as its "hot enough" and you "feed each one every other day".

Yea, I get all those questions a lot too. But the main one is "is it venomous?" Yea, I'm holding a venomous snake while casually walking around my house. Really?:O
