    Rodent bill
I'm curious to know how much others pay each month in rodents. I presently have 33 balls and get all my rodents from a local breeder. I have several balls I'm feeding heavily which makes my bill higher yet feel I get rats a decent price. I'm looking at spending upwards of $185 in October to feed my snakes. This is accounting for each snake feeding every meal. This won't happen but I've been doubling up the agressive feeders in prep of breeding by giving them meals not taken by by other balls.

I breed ASF's and just started a Hooded Colony. I have 15/16 snakes and it costs about $30-$40 a month to feed everyone. I buy my frozen rats from a local breeder.. Hopefully I can cut that cost once my Hoodeds start to breed. :)

it cost's about 500.00 a month to feed and keep our colony in bedding but with 100+ snakes and rats being 3.00 + dollars each it is cheaper and more reliable. I know the quality of feeder I get to offer.

I have 50 snakes, and the food bill has been less than $2000 per year, but I haven't done the math on it yet this year.

About $576 per year is spent just on bedding for the rodent colony. The rest of that figure goes to food, and frozen rodents.

I'm up to 24 BP's and my monthly rodent bill is about $110-120 a month. I buy from a local mousery. I'm looking to buy a house so I can breed my own someday.

I have 22 snakes. 13 adults/sub adults the rest are young. I spend about 80.00 a month on rats. I breed my own ASF's for the young and small ones. I want to get a building so I can breed some rats. I can not handle the smell of them in the house.

Hi everybody. All this talk about breeders and food bills has me wondering how I would get in touch with local breeders of frozen food. Would Craigslist be a good place to start? Thanks.

What city are you in? There's a bunch of people here that might be able to supply you with something for your adopted bp.

We feed 20+ snakes for free :D

Selling pet rats for $15 a pair pays for all the bedding and all of the mazuri and we generally have extra rats to sell other people.

Some months the rats actually make money, lol.

    20 snakes -
14 balls, baby dumerils, adult dumerils, BRB, yearling burm, and two 7 foot burms.

2.6 rats, each female consistently puts out 12-16 babies, I spend about $20 a month on food, about $10 a month on bedding. We're lucky to get huge jumbo rats from a friend who has a big rat barn, but only keeps balls. So when his breeder males are retired, he doesn't have any snakes large enough to eat them, and we get them for the burms =)

I live in an apartment, but my deck is just large enough to house all the rats on. Once it gets colder again, I plan on moving them into the outside storage closet with some heat, so I don't have to deal with the smell inside.

I was breeding rats for about a year, but the wife hated the smell. I'm hoping to get a heated shed in the backyard and start breeding again soon. I spend about $120 a month on rats and mice, but I feed live to everyone. I have 16 balls of various sizes.

I just put my first order in through Rodentpro.com and besides the shipping being high it seemed to still be a good deal. Anyone else order from there before? JH

It was only within the past few weeks that I have been able to almost exclusively feed off my own supply of ASFs to ~50 balls and 1 GTP. It costs about $150 a month for bedding and mazuri 6F. Before, I was spending anywhere between $600-$900 a month buying rats from a local pet store. That was painful.

I posted earlier, but am now scaling back on the asf's and raising rats, I think I spend about $25-30 a month on food and bedding for rodents.

I bought $120 of F/T rats from rodent pro. Enough food for 12 months for my 1 snake at the time. Picked up another snake then decided to start breeding fancy rats. I spend about $15 a month for food and bedding for my 1.4 rats.

At one point I had 20+ snakes, and fed my snakes for free every week. It would cost me about $40 a month for food/bedding. I only have 3 rat racks, and push out anywhere from 100-300 pinks per month. My rats are extremely happy, and every week I find at least 2-3 pregnant mama's. I found 5 pregnant mama's 3 days ago. I only have 10 BP's, so I'm having to take the excess over to a pet store, or humanely euthanize via CO2.

I have 6 balls when i can find small rats i buy 6 and they go for around $4.00 each...But its been hard finding them so i been buying 12 mice and feeding them 2 a week.. the mice go for $2.00 each...so i been spending around $100.00 a month..I live in Long Island, New York and its hard to find reptile stores out here that sell rats live...

I've got 4 of them. 3 are big eaters and as a group they go through most of a bag of f/t small rats in a month. The picky one only eats one live rat pup every 10 days or so. It costs me just under 30 bucks a month to feed them.

I recently bought from rodent pro and was very happy all animals clean smelled good when thawed and my good eaters ate them. If you order a lot its worth the shipping cost. But still steep. I have two on live at the moment which is difficult. I would like to have closer. I was thinking of putting in an order for the next reptile expo in New England to get more feeders.

I would rather work local. I cannot breed my own at the moment and the smell is awful. I live in Bangor, Maine and would be willing to drive if anyone is near by with feeders to sell. I have 7 pythons at the moment and 3 on the way next month. Most are are on small rats for now and I have two on live trying to switch them. One on rat fuzzies and one on weaned rats. The next 3 will all be hatchling size. Anyways thanks good thread.

I buy them at the reptile shows. They sell at the one in Columbus. The snakes like their rats, and the price is way better than for live in this area.

When my rats arent breeding like they should i tend to spend about 50 bucks a week or so but when im getting pinkies and small rats going then i just end up paying for feed and thats all which feed is about 12 for 40 lb bags. Needless to say im working on becoming full time self sufficient and i do sell my extras to local snake owners. Just started a mouse breeding project so hopefully ill get those going as well.

Wow there is a lot of money going towards buying and keeping rats! I'm probably spending $30 a month in bedding and food. If I were buying rodents it would be $50 a week.

I use Harlan Teklad for the rats. I'd say I spend around $50-60 every month for food and bedding. I feed almost 20 snakes every week (most being bigger sized balls). I produce more than enough rats. I have tons of excess in the freezer and I also sell to people around me.
