First escapee!

Today I was cleaning my floor and there was this box that my rat cage came in. I picked it up and it seemed ridiculously heavy. I was thinking, "What the ?!? I know I only put some trash in here..." I peeked in the box and lo and behold there's Louise... She couldn't have been there for more than one night, I didn't even know she wasn't in her tub. I'm just shocked. I have no clue how her tub got unlatched, or if she pushed it open (I saw Zeus push his open when he was adjusting to it, but I was right there luckily). I always thought that if anyone escaped it would be Zeus considering he's such a pain always cruising for no reason and refusing food despite his perfect husbandry.


All I can say is... Good thing I didn't just throw the box out without thinking.

I dont know if I would be able to handle it if one of my snakes got out and was hurt, I always make sure my tubs are ultra secure, I get them tightly closed by using this stuff called "Gorilla Tape" I put strips of it on both sides of the tub to hold it down even better, the stuff has such good adhesive on it that you can peel the tape back and restick it hundreds of times before it loses its stickiness, and it is super tough, it does not stretch so the snake should not be able to get out with this stuff on the tub as well...

PS: Really glad Louise is ok!

So where do you buy that Gorilla tape? I upgraded Zeus' tub to one with locking latches instead of the ones that just latch (if that makes sense), but I never thought Louise would ever try it because she's always hiding and very content all the time...


Mystery solved though. My boyfriend shut the thermostat off yesterday because of the heat wave, I told him it just wouldn't turn on anyway but he felt the need so I let him. I forgot to turn it back on before I turned my fan on when I went to bed, so I assume she was looking for a warmer spot to lay, didn't find one though... She went and stayed in that box directly in front of her tub on the floor.


Needless to say, snake stuff = hands off to EVERYONE but me from that moment on.

I get the Gorilla Tape at Home Depot, you can find it at ACE Hardware too probably... I highly reccomend it! It is ten times better than Duct Tape!

Better safe than sorry, it couldnt hurt to make the tubs extra secure...

I'm glad you found her before she really got lost. I use luggage straps from Wal-Mart to keep my tub lids on. You can also use bungee cords stretched around them...

My first BP escaped in the car and got into the ventilation system. My mother was driving me and the snake back college one day after going home for a weekend. I had the snake in a cardboard box that I thought FOR SURE was escape proof. Low and behold, he made his way out and made his way into the heat vent. We tried to lure him out/disassemble the dashboard/reach in and get him from 8am-7pm. We finally gave up and brought the car to the shop to have it completely disassembled. The mechanic was afraid of snakes and refused to work on it. Finally, after a few days, they found a mechanic that would work on it but it was too late. :tears:

I learned from this that you can never be too secure because BP's will find their way out of ANYTHING.

Woke up this morning looked over and HER TUB WAS UNLATCHED AGAIN! Tore apart my room... Didn't take us long to find her, but I'm still fuming. I honestly didn't think she got out on her own the first time but the latches are wearing and I have a feeling she keeps popping it open because she's gained so much weight. If she tried to wedge herself on top of her hide it probably just popped right open.

Oh no! Your lucky she has been easy to find. You better get some straps or something to tie down the tub before she gets out and isn't as easy to find.

Upgraded her tub today. No way she's escaping from that one!
