Our 2010 Ball Python clutches :)
    2010 Ball Python Clutches

    * Clutch 02-10, 4 Eggs, Normal x Butter Ball Python
    * Clutch 03-10, 4 Eggs, Normal x Butter Ball Python
    * Clutch 04-10, 7 Eggs, Normal x Bumblebee Ball Python

    Check out these pics!
A normal x butter clutch - 3 eggs were wrapped up with mommy, but one was rolled out. Fortunately, it is still doing great!

    And it's a spider!

about 2 weeks before these eggs were laid, we had a problem where two females got out in the same night (careless work on my part in not sliding their tubs in properly). I put them back in cages, but they were about the same weight and both normal, so... well I put them back in the wrong containers!

So my clutch 02-10, which was supposed to be butter x normal, is actually bumblebee x normal!! :)

Here is the spider, the first to come out:

    Um... OK!

My butter x normal clutch, which has already produced a butter (see my previous post for his pic, clearly a butter), has just produced a... pastel???

    what the... ??

This female was introduced once to a bumblebee, and I did not witness a lock. Aside from that, she was ALWAYS paired with my Butter male and the lock was witnessed a few times, and as evidenced by the other hatchling in this clutch, that mating did take...

can ball pythons retain sperm from previous matings?

    LOL!

Well, I think I beat the odds with this clutch (and had a little murphy's law thrown in as this was normal x butter, where a bumblebee had been introduced to the normal only once!)

    4 Eggs and I got:

    1 Pastel
    3 Butters

    WOOOT!

Here is the last Butter to come out:

I couldn't be happier! :) Their dad is a BEAUTIFUL butter, and one of my favorite snakes - super friendly, and well behaved, and a good eater :)

Now the rest of my clutch0210 is hatching - I had a rollout egg from that clutch hatch out a few days ago (was kept in a separate container to prevent possible mold spreading), and it was a Spider :)

    More baby ball pythons!

Clutch 0210 ended with 2 spiders, 1 normal, and a DIE bumblebee (ack! horrible...) (Normal x Bumblebee)
Clutch 0310 ended with 3 Butters and 1 Pastel (normal x a butter and a bumblebee)
Clutch 0410 has 1 normal out of the egg, and in the eggs are 4 pastels, 1 normal, and a bumblebee! (Normal x Bumblebee)

The normal and spider from clutch 0210 are below, and the normal from clutch 0410:

    YES!!!

One of my girls who hasn't gone back on feeding yet (have another one who is still refusing) just laid a clutch of 4 eggs!!! :)

All four look good too. Mom is a normal, dad could be a Bumblebee or a Butter (both bred with her, the bumblebee early in the season and the butter later in the season)

:) Had a clutch hatch over the last few days - one pastel and one bee still in the egg, but this is one of the babies to come out. 4 Egg clutch from a normal x bumblebee hatched out two bees, one pastel, and a normal (and at the same time, we got another clutch just LAID yesterday of 4 eggs too!!!)

What do you guys think about this bumble? Its my first one with such a dark/thick dorsal stripe:

My late season clutch of 4 from a normal x bumblebee, I had suspected her of being gravid, but she resumed feeding, so this was not expected!

They are due around Thanksgiving LOL

Thanks for helping demjor19! Yes, that clutch actually had two sires in the end... mommy had been with a bumblebee only twice, and with a Butter the rest of the time, and apparently both males played part of the fathering of the clutch.. fun stuff!

Clutch 0610 is almost done hatching. 3 of the 4 have come out - all 4 are pastel! What are the odds? :) (from a normal x bumblebee).

Here are the results of Clutch 0510, a normal x bumblebee, with 2 bumblebees, 1 pastel, and 1 normal:

Re: Our 2010 Ball Python clutches :)
In case you were interested, here were the overall results of my year's breeding:

22 eggs that went to term with 10 pastels, 2 spiders, 3 bumblebees, 4 normals, and 3 butters.

Unfortunately, 1 spider, 1 normal, and 1 pastel could not digest food properly - they refused eating on their own, and when assist fed, they did not digest the food, and died :(. I had a few trouble eaters that I had to assist feed a few times, but all are now eating on their own, including a butter that I had to assist for almost two months but has now taken 6 feedings IN A ROW on his own! :)

I need to post a new pic of my first bee - he is already almost 300 grams, and is beautiful! He is a true blue avid eater - he's the biggest of this year's hatchlings right now. Gotta love watching them grow up and get big and strong :)
