is this a lavender?
i'll be picking up a lavender albino at the upcomming show in hamm (germany). the original breeder were the people from dragonherp. I managed to identify the snake from the baby pictures that were still on his site and now i want to know what u guys think. im pretty sure the people at dragonherp are legit but the fact that lavenders get there true collors after a year or so kinda bothers me. so what do u guys think?
baby photo I snatched at dragonherp.com

Re: is this a lavender?
that looks like its a hatchling. after 3-5 sheds the colors will start to come out.

Re: is this a lavender?
That faded head would make me think Lavender but I am not a expert at all.

Re: is this a lavender?
the first is a hatchling indeed. the other pics are of the snake now at 500 plus grams

Re: is this a lavender?
Im sorry but it doesnt look like one to me. It may be the pictures though, but at 500 grams Id think we would see some more signs of being a lavender.

Re: is this a lavender?
I have to agree with BeardedDragon... Lavender's have an overall purplish look to them... and in those pictures that animal doesn't look purple to me at all. If the second + pic's are of the snake @ 500 grams, I would have to say it's just a very nice albino.. maybe even a high contrast. Best of luck!

Its a Lavender. I've seen Dragon Herps' Lavender in person at Daytona, and they are excellent.

It doesn't look like one to me, but I have seen other lavenders that look like normals. I personally would never buy one unless it had great lavender colors.

100% lavender. What gives it away to me are the eyes, how it's shiny around the alien heads, and how the yellow doesn't bleed into the whites.:gj:

at what age or weight u think it would get its true lavender collors?

Re: is this a lavender?
I don't know from experience, but i hear the lavender color starts showing up after a year. Again this is what i have heard, so i could easily be wrong. My lavender is still young, but i can assure you he has had more than 5 sheds and there is no lavender in him yet. I'm pretty sure Ralph Davis talks about lavenders in a few of his vids. You should go check them out :gj:

Re: is this a lavender?
thnx for the replies guys. although the opinions are different im still pretty confident that this is a lavender, it just sucks that the colloration of a young animal makes it look like a regular albino. maybe i should just wait till saterday and see for myself i hear that the colors are hard to capture on camera.

How old is your lav? I have a few that are getting close to a year old but they are only showing a little of the lav color so far.

Re: is this a lavender?
I say lavender :) Just looks like one. They are hard to photograph, I had a beautiful purple albino tiger retic who is much darker purple than a lavender albino ball and it was almost impossible to get her color to show on camera. Plus the Lav albino balls take a while to get it and they can look so different from one another.

My lav is a late 09. So around 6 months old. He hasn't showed any signs yet, but he does get nicer with each shed. I can't wait until the lavender starts coming in, but from what i've heard it usually starts around 1 year old.

Hello Matt and Eddie! Gosh you guys! They are lavs and you want to know how you can tell? The eyes... Think about the difference in eye color of rats. There are blue with ruby eyes. Blue with pink eyes etc.. They are more of a deep ruby color than the pink eyes of regular albinos. Plus the overall color hues of the white and oranges are very vivid. The thin outline around the orange. The bright whites. The faded head. All signs of a lav to me and thats what those snakes look like :gj:

Yours is just a little younger than mine. Mine hatched on 10/7. I am seeing a little lav color in the neck and belly so far. just a slight shade everywhere else.

Re: is this a lavender?
Its hard to tell, I have one that is purple at a young age and I have seen some that are still turning lavender after a year. I will find out soon enough when my youngsters grow up and produce from the tsk line, RDR line, and VPI line. I had to get some of each Mostly hets and double hets and 2 visuals. Love those lavs. They are all gorgeous!!!
