My New Car!
So, this week started off pretty darn rotten - I had a minor fender bender, but it set off my airbags, and my car was a '99 Nissan Altima, which other than the airbags, had pretty minor repairs needed, all in all (front bumper, windshield that cracked and headlights to be re-aligned).
But....due to the age of my car and the miles - over 165K - they declared my car a total loss. They even commented that it was well cared for, and it was a shame that the air bags deployed.
I planned to drive that car into the ground - even made that comment to my dad not three weeks ago, and just got a new alternator put into it 2 weeks ago.
So, after four hours at Enterprise this evening (where I decided to purchase my car, because insurance would only pay for a rental until this coming Tuesday - so not a lot of wiggle room with time), I'm getting this 2009 Nissan Altima - I pick her up on Friday from Birmingham. They could have transferred her here for $250, but my neighbor offered to ride over with me, so I wouldn't have to pay that too.

These are photos I took of my computer screen last night so I could send the pictures to Karl's cell phone to see.

Haven't I seen that shade of red on women who spend time hanging from poles?
Nice car though, it's so shiny.

Very nice, Robin! That didn't take long.

Re: My New Car!
LOL Wes - well, I could have chosen from six Altima's in the local area - white, black, dark blue (almost black), slate (almost black).
BORING! If I'm going to drive a car for 10 plus years (and you can do that with a Nissan if you take care of it), I'm going to drive a car that I LOVE!
Was looking at some other makes and models, and honestly, the Altima was the most expensive choice. However, my smart father told me to go to the library last night and check out the Consumer Reports reliability reports on all the makes and models I was considering. I had pretty much ruled out Altima when I had left there, just based on pricing.
Pretty eye opening exercise quite frankly. My family has always been a Nissan family, and after doing that exercise, it made my decision a no brainer - top scores in customer satisfaction, reliability, best bet buy, and low incidence of repairs, on top of my insurance premiums going up LESS for this car than all the others (yes - even called the insurance company to get quotes on rates), even cars that I could have driven off for several thousand less.
Happy with my decision, and can't wait to get her on Friday!

They didn't give me much choice - turn the rental back in on Tuesday - and I was already planning to go to NC this Sunday for a week of vacation, so I had to act fast!

Re: My New Car!
You know, it may not be a she.
That bold, that brassy, could be a boycar with certain ..... issues, shall we say?
Not that that's bad, hell if it's attention you want, a crossgendered bright stripper-red car is a good way to go.
I like the lines too.

That's why I call my car a "new to me" car. I won't buy new - why be the one paying all the extra money when it depreciates as soon as it's driven off the lot? A year old and several thousand less is just fine with me! :D

Re: My New Car!
I gave up my Maxima for a "sporty" car, Mitsubishi Eclipse v6 every possible option. One of the biggest mistakes of my life. As soon as I'm done driving this thing into the ground, I'm going to pick up a Maxima or Altima.

Re: My New Car!
Very nice Robin!!! I was told that insurance companies almost always total a car if the airbags go off, unless the car is pretty new. When my car got creamed I was on the fence about wanting it totaled or wanting it fixed!
My parents have always had Nissans and love them! They had an Altima but got a Maxima the last time, and a Nissan truck. My dad still doesn't accept that I'm a VW person and keeps trying to talk me into an Altima for my next car  I know you'll love the car!

Re: My New Car!
Great car! I rented a '07 Altima for a road trip several years ago, and it was a very very nice car. Really impressed me, I'm sure you're going to love it! Congrats.

My family is a definite Nissan family. We've had Nissan's since the '80's - every car I've owned (save one) has been a Nissan. I mean, I look at other cars, and when I do a side by side comparison with Consumer Reports, any other car I have the slightest interest in gets completely anhialated by the comparable Nissan in safety, maintenance, reliablity and consumer satisfaction.
In fact, last night when I was talking to my folks during the process and mentioned maybe getting a Mitsubishi Galant over the Altima, and they were on separate extentions on the phone and they both said "NO!!!!" at the same time! LOL

Congrats Robin I love Altima's

Re: My New Car!
Altima's are a nice car. And they have more muscle than other cars in their class. My wife drives a 2001 Xterra. I bought it brand new at the dealership on 01/02/01. My wife was mad at me for doing it but came to love it. Last year it developed a head gasket leak. I had that changed and had them replace the timing belt at that time. This Xterra still looks new. It helps that the body style hasn't really changed in 10 years. Aside from that it has not had any trouble. I would either buy an Altima or a Chevy Malibu if I were to buy a new car now.

I bought two brand spankin new fords an f-150 and a f-250. Huge mistake My truck is worth $10,000 less then when we got it :( not sure on the 250. I will never buy new again unless I buy a luxury car, then I don't want the funk from some other commoner in my coach.
