    School Presentation Today
I did a small presentation on snakes today for my son and daughters 3rd grade class and my youngest sons K-4 class. It went rather well and I was surprised at how many kids in that small group had snakes at home. The best part IMO was when I asked all the kids who was afraid of snakes and alot of kids raised their hands. Then I asked those who had raised their hands for being scared how they knew they were afraid and they all seemed to slowly put their hands down and think about it. Hmmm maybe some pre determined phobia's? It was really cool I took the snake eggs I had hatching and the babies that just hatched out. I had a great time and the kids and especially the teachers seemed very interested. My oldest sons teacher came up to me after and said she has a new appreciation for snakes and that she can see how ppl love them! That made me feel great and who knows, maybe I turned a few kids into future herpers!http://i711.photobucket.com/albums/w...tation/018.jpg

Thats really great. Every presentation helps our cause, and the more people that are aware that our herps are not ravenous killers, the more people that will reject the idiotic bills the government is presenting.

Thank you for doing this presentation. :gj:

School presentations are a great way to promote herpetoculture and clear up misconceptions about snakes. I do at least one school presentation every year, and I always see kids (and teachers) who are nervous and scared of snakes before the presentation totally turn around and want to hold the snakes and have one of their own in the end. It is amazing what a little exposure and education can do!

Thanks Everyone! I encourage all of you to talk to your child's teacher and see if it would be something they would be willing to let you do. It is great fun!

my sons teacher wanted me to do a show & tell with my snake but by the time i get it he'll be in a different classroom later this year. i would love to do a show & tell at my daughters school, she's older going into the 4th grade, but then again it would get her popular with the boys & she's already crushin' on a poor boy right now.

presentations like these are great, it looks like you had a great time.

I wish i had the opportunity to do more. I Iv'e done a few, my biggest one was last year around this time. I think I had over 300 visitors (it was a college thing) possibly more throughout the day. My booth opened early and closed late because so many people were interested in seeing the snake I'd brought with me. It was a huge success, it really helped a lot of people get over their reptile-related issues.
