Things we learn as we go!
When I first got started I read every thing that I could get my hands on to tell me how to breed ball pythons. Adam Wysocki's web site, Mark Mandic's site. I talked with breeders and learned the things to look for. Laying cold , glowing, laying hot, ovulation then POS and then lay.

Well that's all well and good. But they don't all follow that path. I bred this female to a lesser male this year. She only locked three times with this male, never went off food I mean she even ate last week and even ate 20 minutes after I pulled her off eggs, I never saw her glow, she never laid cold, never saw an ovulation. Low and behold I was feeding and checking on snakes tonight. I opened up this tub and there was this girl sitting on a clutch of eggs 4 good looking eggs.

Just goes to show you that you never stop learning..

So first clutch of 2010 is in the bator and looking good.

    Congrats!!

They can be frustrating as all get out, but they do provide some pleasant surprises to make up for it.:)

It's something I never expected. But having eggs in the bator 4 weeks before I thought I would is a good thing no doubt

I like surprises like hey I got 8 pieds in 6 eggs but I hate being caught with my pants down when it comes to clutches.. Luckly I had vermiculite and hadn't yet broken down the bator to finish the new one..

I hear you on that one.. My incubator runs almost year round so I don't have that problem but can see how it would be stressful. Good luck with your season... And wish I could get surprised with 8 pieds in 6 eggs (have yet to get twins... :please:)

I'm experiencing something similar this year. Last year my female stopped eating in November and didn't start again until after eggs hatched in July. This year, she hasn't really stopped eating altogether. She ate earlier this month just a few days before I saw her ovulating. Last night I offered her a mouse and she snatched it up before it even hit the floor. It's definitely weird because when I pick her up, I can see the bulges. There's no mistaking she's gravid but everything I've ever read on breeding snakes has said that they will not eat after they ovulate. I'm glad you made this thread. It's reassuring.

Well not so much but it didn't take long to get that way..they were in there for a day or two so I figured a few minutes to get everything together wouldn't be that big of an issue

:D our bator has been off for a few months. I wasn't expecting to turn it on again for over a month.

Yea Kind of calmed me down on how "late" things seem to be going.

It was so weird most of the time they take a while to come back on food but she ate no kidding the minute I got her tub cleaned up.
